    well, hammel is probably coming back next season since he's on a $10m club option next year, which looks to be a bargain. if he comes back then they've already got 5 starters signed for 2017, plus guys like warren, cahill and wood can easily be stretched out to throw a few innings as spot starters and long relievers. i don't see how starter is remotely as urgent a need as a strong 7th/8th inning (preferably LH) reliever. I think Warren joining the rotation and the talk about a 6 man rotation after the break is a way to give them the chance to take a preventative measure against injury(specifically Arrieta/Lester) or a downturn in productivity(like second half Hammel). Relievers are probably the more immediate need, but the Cubs probably don't have to choose, and dealing for a starter is likely going to be more difficult to finagle than shoring up the pen. I'm not sold on Warren(although its probably just a down year) and I think we could add a Hill or maybe Smyly. How you use them? No idea, but I think either could really help the staff overall.

    In no way, shape, or form was our staff as good as it had looked up until recently. We need a starter just as much as we do a reliever. we do? for what purpose, to replace second half hammel? the other four guys obviously aren't much of a problem. Yeah, I take 2nd half Hammel seriously. I also think guarding against injury is a good idea.

    .239/.265/.394 vs RHP, contact switch hitter on deck and Bryant in the hold (miss you fred) I'm not saying I love the bunt there, but I'm guessing that was Martinez's logic Yeah, that's the logic. But its still dumb IMO.

    According to Yags, we're getting 23rd round SS Delvin Zinn. He was a top 250 guy by BA and was drafted by us last year in the 28th. Wasn't thinking we'd get him, with Clark, Miller, and Mekkes getting as much as they did.

    What am I missing here? OK, he ran into KB. Even if he's technically correct, I guess I get a bit of ridicule. But this much, that seems to extend beyond that play too? Huh. If I'm in the minority, so be it......But he's impressing me. The D is as advertised. The bat has some work to do, but I can see him putting up a .700-.750 OPS. I like him. Quite a bit, really.
