  1. I don't know about that. Giants and Red Sox are getting to make final pitches for the closing sell, and Cubs are moving on to contingency plans while Theo is publicly tampering free agent expectations. I'm not going to be devastated if we're not the ones giving Lester 6/140, but just please spare me how we're going to make the big splash next season. Until Theo actually lands a free agent he covets, we should just assume it won't happen and we're going to be stuck convincing ourselves how Edwin Jackson for 4/52 is really just about as good as 5/80 or Anibal Sanchez. Cafardo already said in his latest article the Cubs are meeting with his (Lester's) agents today and possibly again tomorrow
  2. The Royals almost just won the World Series with a playoff rotation of Shields (who was awful), Ventura, Jason Vargas, and Jeremy Guthrie. I mean, I obviously want the best players, but it's not like having 3 aces is some prerequisite to winning a World Series or something, so I'm with Tim. Just get a lot of quality pitchers and things will work out fine. Or at least buy you more time.
  3. Once Rosenthal breaks this he better give nocode credit.
  4. That comment today on Bleacher Nation... Lol. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/12/02/mlb-umpire-dale-scott-comes-out/ Got to scroll down a good bit to "Kurt's" diatribe, but goodness.

  7. Ehhh..... He wasn't even in the top 30 last year for wOBA, wRC+, etc. That's not a knock on him, he's a very good hitter, but assuming his true talent level is somewhere in between his last two seasons, top 5 would be a pretty extreme stretch. Factor in defense and position and then the "top 5" label would hold more merrit.
  8. Agreed, but the A' seemed to be selling high (Donaldson) to buy kinda low (Lawrie). Ideally you'd think could get one blue chip guy (considering the years of control left) unless they are just really sold on Lawrie. Baretto is nice but he's too far away to know if he's really that kind of prospect.
  9. Not saying the Red Sox aren't in a little bit better shape to contend immediately but it's kind of funny on Twitter how people are acting like we didn't just finish with a better record than them last season.
  10. Levine's unnamed sources are better because he provides direct quotes from his. Like the one who said we were showing legitimate interest in Nick Swisher.
  11. Kaplan said one of his sources was an agent and another was an east coast team official not associated with the Cubs. More than most people would even reveal. Why are you acting like every source has to be Theo Epstein to count? (Re: Felix)
  12. Usually but almost every one of the FAs have trade rumors surrounding them which pretty much means their team's know they are hitting FA. And these guys are so good that they'd be pretty dumb to pass on FA this close to it unless it's a completely insane deal.
  13. This kid supposedly had the Hanley or Panda deals before anyone, correct? Yes. He's from outside of St. Louis, but apparently has some contact in the Red Sox FO. He keeps claiming that he had the Hanley deal but another rando had it first and this kid checked with him before posting about it. The other rando was legit but clearly knew someone within a certain agency as all of his scoops involved that agency. I believe the kid did have the Panda thing, but he was supposed to sign early in the week and there were the airport rumors so an educated guess is possible. He has also reported Twins as leader for Tori Hunter which has since been confirmed but I don't know if that was common knowledge or not. I'm 50/50 on whether he's full of [expletive] or not. Christopher Meola was the name of the guy who had the Hanley and Stanton details first, but I think it's via a specific agency.
  14. http://chicagosuntimes.com/sports/cubs-add-henry-blanco-to-coaching-staff-dave-martinez-might-be-next/ Hopefully this source is as accurate as his Zimmerman one.
  15. Indeed. It's almost as if the father-in-law is not closely involved in the negotiations. Of course, that's apparently crazy talk. I think most people realized it was pretty vague and obvious, but you kept saying the FIL was trying to be the one to "break the scoop" or something. He wasn't trying to break anything, but any piece of information that shows he could be leaning one way or another is appreciated IMO, considering the guy clearly has proven he isn't making things up. And no crap the FIL isn't involved in the negotiations, he clearly would be talking with his daughter who is currently in the process of debating where to live and move their children for the next 6 or 7 years.
  16. Nocode's post was 6 days before the Lester meetings news first broke. And he had the teams in the correct order and time frame. Nov 12th was when the first report about Lester meeting the Red Sox came out. Then Levine had the Cubs meeting him news an hour later. Nocodes post was Nov. 6th.
  17. Yeah, he posted the Boston and then Chicago visit before it was publicly revealed, so nocode seems legit. That said, I'm not sure that text means THAT much. We know he could be a Cub, and he's probably just telling nocode that since he knows he's a cubs fan.
  18. I saw someone post a slightly older tweet from McCarthy from a few months ago saying he could blow peoples minds and make the case Gomes is more important than Lester. I would like to see that case.
  19. On my phone so I'm bad with copying tweets, but Greenberg retweeted a guy who says Theo and Lester are eating now at RPM steak and PTR just walked in.
  20. So Rosenthal confirmed a 13 year old (seriously) reporting Billy Butler was in serious talks with the A's, and now the other 16 year old that was relevant during the Shark trade says done deal 3/30. I want sources too, damnit.
  21. And if we don't get him, just roll it into the Tanaka fund. You'll be thankful for the Tanaka Martin Moncada fund when it's time to sign Bryant to his 13 yr/$500 mil extension.
  22. I'm pretty sure Kyle is Rust Cohle who recently found out how to use the internet.
