  1. How have I not seen this? Did anyone ever figure out who it was? https://nsbblol.wordpress.com
  2. Laughter happens. He's getting at least 4/80 guaranteed. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't have his perfect offer from a team he wants to play for or else he would be signed by now. I agree that the overwhelming majority of players take the highest bid, but sometimes a player will leave money on the table for other reasons (location, AL/NL, losing team/contending team, etc.) A serious discussion with the FO explaining the likelihood of agreeing to the option because of increased revenue in the next few years might convince him that a 4 year/$82 million contract on a contending team is the best way to go. I understand that not all the top free agents will be available by next offseason, but I feel there will be enough that it's best to wait. Honestly, I think there is a legit chance that everyone does make it to FA.
  3. Sounds like Mannelly is stepping down and either McNeil comes back or they scrap it and bring over @thekapman and Haugh. http://www.robertfeder.com/2015/01/30/with-mannelly-leaving-score-midday-job-up-for-grabs/
  4. Pretty much where I'm at. I think he'd get there with time. There were probably more, but a few random quotes from predraft time: http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/college-player-of-the-year-kris-bryant/ http://mweb.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/scott-miller/22356953/budding-slugger-kris-bryant-brings-scouts-back-to-glaus-werth His own head coach: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2013/04/28/sports/baseball/kris-bryant-could-power-his-way-into-top-5-of-baseball-draft.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1 Keith Law (a little more recently): http://vineline.mlblogs.com/2014/01/29/espns-keith-law-unveils-top-farm-systems-prospects/ Etc etc... And keep in mind all of these quotes are about RF, which is generally considered a tougher position than LF.
  5. is that true? Scouts were dropping Jason Werth (saying "gold glove") comps on his D in RF at San Diego. His arm out there was apparently awesome. Obviously he'll probably take a little time since it's been awhile, but the tools are there.
  6. Russell is likely a plus plus defender at 3rd, and Bryant is likely a plus defender in left. Bryant is likely below average at 3rd, maybe average. Who knows what Russell is in left? One guy has never played outside of the infield in his life, and the other was surprising scouts 2 years ago by playing a solid CF and a great RF at San Diego (not a massive sample size of course, but enough to get an idea for scouts to make fair projections).
  7. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--star-cuban-prospect-yoan-moncada-s-free-agency-imminent-230856047.html On my phone, so not going to copy/paste, but basically Moncada will be a FA in as soon as 2 weeks. That theoretically sucks, but we are still listed as one of four favorites and Moncada is apparently open to waiting until July 2nd. Realistically, he's probably saying that to keep us in there to drive the price up. But hopefully he's sincere.
  8. I see something about Anthony Rizzo in some face of baseball thing all over twitter. If there was ever a time to get #tinyfaceofbaseball trending, now would be the time.
  9. How often do these giant mental lapses occur, once or twice a month? You're willing to ignore the massive amount of awesomeness he has already shown at such a young age and trade him right as he's entering his prime (on a very team-friendly deal) just because he makes a random brain fart very infrequently?
  10. I keep seeing people say how shifts are "aesthetically displeasing" all over Twitter. Who gives a [expletive]? So is Prince Fielder. People are also arguing how it won't be a big deal because the stats show shifting might have a minimal effect on run prevention. The stats show bunting is pointless too, should we ban that as well? I just don't get it.
  11. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54498&p=2201849#p2201849 Clicked on a random page. Found myself defending Cubs minor league superstud Chris Huseby. http://media.giphy.com/media/11gC4odpiRKuha/giphy.gif
  12. Yeah, he's a great follow on Twitter. Fowler sounds like a pretty fun upbeat guy.
  13. Okay the one game comments are at least a little understandable. Leaving aside the obvious part about Bryant being worth 7 wins in 3 weeks, just by extrapolating out those results, this view requires that you think the Cubs are 46-50ish win team without Bryant. It gets said here once a week, but having a conversation with casual baseball fans are the worst (even if he's a season ticket holder). Sometimes it's easier to passively agree than be that guy who spends 10 minutes giving a math lesson.
  14. That feel when your friend texts you that keeping Kris Bryant down 3 weeks will cost you up to 7 wins and possibly be the difference in making the playoffs or not. Is it even worth it?
  15. http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/cubs-say-javier-baez-will-have-earn-his-playing-time Wow, his English is about 5,000 X better than when he was mumbling to complete a half sentence during the season.
  16. CSN is showing the opening ceremony. PTR's live.
  17. Matt Harvey kind of looks like Jay Cutler had a baby with Jake Arrieta.
  18. There's something fishy with his teeth. He looked like a completely different dude on Instagram lately. I think it's more than just smiling.
  19. Jason Goch ‏@JasonGoch ? for internet #sabernerds whining about Dave Stewart: if your stuff is so revolutionary, why does scoring keep going down in #MLB ? LOL!!!! The funnier thing is that the Dave Stewart quotes seemed to be about pitching sabermetrics related to Shields, so I'm not quite sure why he's trying to pigeonhole sabermetrics as some "offense-only" thing to prove a nonexistent point. Oh wait, he watched Moneyball and came to the conclusion that sabermetrics mean nothing but OBP, and only OBP, lol.
  20. Ask him how much he enjoys his weekly show with Bernstein.
  21. Yeah, I just realized that after seeing him in an argument over on PSD,
  22. Nah. I'd be happy he's doing well, but he could be hitting .500 with no K's and I wouldn't project his 2015 season any different than pre-Puerto Rico. Of course I'm not projecting some amazing 2015 in the first place though. He's the youngest player in baseball. In a world where Anthony Rizzo seemed to need nearly 3 MLB seasons of trial and error before (hopefully) becoming the player he was supposed to be, of course it's going to take a crap ton of trial and error for someone like Javy. A lot more than 10 games of winter ball in Puerto Rico which are coming straight off of 3 months with no baseball activity.
  23. Much? I don't want him to strikeout while working with Mallee either, but at some point we do need to realize this is like 10 random games in Puerto Rico we're talking about here.
