  1. yeah, no- he gets fatigued after like 2 ABs unless physically being able to play in more than 20 games a year isn't a tool at which case you're still wrong. Pie's tools have never been in doubt
  2. Not to nitpick, but Peter Gammons specifically said that Nomar was his favorite to win the MVP in the NL right before the start of whatever year that was. Then Nomar started like 2 for 30 and tore his groin all to hell. Gammons also predicted an MVP for Bobby Crosby even after 2-3 years of total suckage. he doesn't count.
  3. nilo, are you using any type of positional adjustment on these? i strongly doubt Gathright's more valuable as a corner OF No, I didn't really do anything positionally. The only statement I made was that Gathright defensively is a 1 win CF and a 2 win corner OF which is a pretty well established translation from CF to corner OF. So, if you want to compare apples to apples (or Gathright to other corner OF options), then use 2 wins on defense for Gathright. Now, with that being said, I'm most definitely not in favor of signing Gathright and calling it a day for RF. What I am saying is that Gathright does have value. He would fit in perfectly if we get Bradley as a pinch running double switch defensive replacement and would give us more flexibility to take advantage of and create highly leveraged situation (with his speed and defense) as well as give rest to injury prone players when the game is in very low leverage situations. oh ok, i misread your first post

  5. he and Theriot are really gonna put on a show in BP

  7. fwiw, pizza argues the Giants really didn't have much of a dropoff from Bonds to Lewis last year
  8. nobody was predicting an MVP season from Nomar our top 3 headed the leaderboard of PAP in 03 - Tampa's didn't we didn't have a glut of young talent on offense - Tampa does we had inept management - Tampa doesn't what the hell is your argument anyways? they should have a firesale or something because they could possibly have guys get injured or 12 years older all of a sudden?
  9. i understand where you're coming from with these statements, but Detroit is freakishly potent with a pulled goalie. the other night Phoenix outplayed them the entire game, until 1:30 left where Michalek stupidly puts the puck over the boards in the neutral zone and draws a minor. and predictably, Hossa sets up Franzen for the tie and Hank undresses Bryzgalov for the shootout W. not that this anecdote alone means much, but they did essentially the same thing in the Hawks and Kings games, among others i'm forgetting atm. they could be outscoring teams by a wider margin but it really looks like they're coasting right now. i still hate denis gauthier. a lot. not for that specifically, but he makes crappy decisions like that all the time. maybe Murray instructed Gauthier to throw the game like that to show his appreciation to Det for Kyle Quincey

  11. BJ Upton will have an MVP caliber year, and Crawford will invariably rebound and with Price, Kazmir, Garza, Shields, Sonnanstine as the rotation, they'll remain a strong pennant contender [expletive] they're loaded
  12. oops in my defense though i had the misapprehension Orlovsky, whom I like quite a bit, was on IR and Henson was going to start or something
  13. I had to chuckle at this. The Nats seem to have a bigger infatuation with RH hitting outfielders than Jim Hendry's infatuation with guys who can play 2b. Josh Willingham Elijah Dukes Lastings Milledge Austin Kearns Wily Mo Pena i love Dukes, Milledge and Pena if they were available on the cheap (Pena obviously not for starting)
  14. amazing that Angel Guzman was the hold-up we let a better young RP go for the privilege of Kevin Gregg gross
  15. you took the words right out of my mouth, TT
  16. cindy crosbaby! OMG that's hysterical!!!
  17. seeing as he'll likely be healthy for like 3-1/2 years of that contract, that's another pitcher they'll be spending $23m on, per pitching year
  18. 4/63 is not an onerous contract for a pitcher of Peavy's caliber. my god, look at what CC's about to sign. the Pads have special circumstances which are prompting them to get rid of him; it's not comparable to A-Rod or Hampton in any way shape or form.
  19. i'm not too thrilled about people over dramatizing the "7 for 1" thing Hart, Cedeno, Guzman are all easily replaceable off of the scrap heap. what are Denny Bautista or Yorman Bazardo doing these days? where is Gookie Dawkins these days? they're so insignificant i don't too much care what we throw out there in their stead. Marshall was our loogy last year, uh oh where can i find one of those?? hell, the club can't trust Pie to do anything more than late inning defensive substitution and pinch running. OK, where is Freddy Guzman? you've really got Vitters and Derosa were the only players of any consequence whatsoever in the deal. i can surely part with them for a CY winner
  20. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?id=2726800
  21. what are we even arguing about in regards to Pie? "well the organization has done such a rotten job in evaluating his ability and clearing a spot for him to display his talents, so lets just unload him for whatever doghowry we can get in return and forget it ever happened" i guess that worked well for Juan Cruz
  22. and the numbers bear out that Fukudome was a superior player to Ibanez last year and will most likely continue to be for the next three seasons
