    since everybody likes to compare him to Hoffpauir, i feel compelled to mention in his first 119 121 PA, he hit .336/.388/.536, 30 K, .429 babip LaHair's sitting at 34 K, .435 babip currently do with that info what you'd like

    Well we better hope so, as he's a first baseman, and not a particularly good defensive one at that. Also, on a more irrelevant note that's a useful reminder, Soto is two months younger than LaHair. Soto and LaHair have had pretty similar batted ball profiles so far. LaHair's LD% is higher(26% to 21%), but he's also had a higher K rate(31% to 23%. LaHair's BABIP is .524 and Soto's is .156. Normalize those and Soto probably comes out ahead. But anyway, aside from being a nice illustration of how crazy BABIP can be at this point in the season, LaHair has no purpose in this thread. to add to that point, positional average OPS for catcher is about 100 pts lower than for 1B

    Taijuan Walker, Nick Castellanos, Zach Lee, Christian Yelich, Zack Cox, Gary Brown, Tyrell Jenkins, Mike Olt, Aaron Sanchez, Bryce Brentz, Noah Syndergaard, Anthony Ranaudo, Asher Wojciechowski would have all been fine picks also at that spot now we're hoping we can get a couple Syndergaard- and Castellanos-types back in a package for the low price of Matt [expletive] Garza when we could've just had one just for the hell of it, had we not made a pick which was basically the equivalent of a lottery ticket where you stand to win like $1000 if it actually hits [expletive].

    at any rate, a big part of the reason i'd want to go after Upton is i don't really think it'll take that much to get him his agent is going to have a hard time selling him based on what teams typically seem to value: .257 avg, career high of 24 HR, 82 RBI (both were five years ago), no gold gloves...it might be only the analytical front offices that truly realize his worth, and they mostly won't have the resources to make huge overtures for him
