  1. i've got to say, i was pretty psyched about this pick.
  2. Size, with Mason being 3-5 inches taller? Age when drafted out of HS? Both irrelevant? Ben Revere at age 20 was (similarly) putting up huge BA's in single-A, and even hitting XBHs more frequently than Williams; speedy OF is actually a relative area of depth in our system, too - so move over, Matt Szczur, somebody even slappier's in town! getting a 150 lb. project OF as the main prize for Garza might just make me physically ill Slappy 150 lb. project sounds a bit like Starlin Castro circa 2009. Just sayin. no, it doesn't; when Starlin was Mason Williams' age, he was already in the big leagues, and showing more power it actually sounds more like the "future Manny Ramirez" Jose Tabata; still waiting on him to fill out... (also, take Starlin off SS and put him in the OF, and you're left with Jon Jay right now, basically)

  4. wow, you guys like Mason Williams a lot more than i do if there are any differences between he and Ben Revere at age 20, i'm not sure i see them
  5. 5 of 8 regulars 3 of 5 starters then there's easily 3 bench players and 4 bullpen arms in the system 15-20
  6. i know he's not, but that description always conjures up a specific image in my head; it's the Max Bielfeldt/Spike Albrecht prototype
  7. Torreyes also played SS and stole 2nd & 3rd during the same AB .421/.522/.737 his past 5 games (0 K)
  8. we were for a little bit, but i think that was only when we thought we'd lose Burke Amedeo Della Valle (@Ame_DV_2) So Michigan STOPPED recruiting me today? That's really fair !!! WoW !! (April 11) we'll probably end up with him, it seems; people bring up the "he's underrated, a great fit for Beilein's system" line, to which i always automatically assume that means he draws a lot of charges and hits some open threes oh, and is white, obviously
  9. i can't get over Brandon Weeden being older than Alex Smith
  10. since everybody likes to compare him to Hoffpauir, i feel compelled to mention in his first 119 121 PA, he hit .336/.388/.536, 30 K, .429 babip LaHair's sitting at 34 K, .435 babip currently do with that info what you'd like
  11. yesss, he had seemed OSU-bound
  12. out-dueling top prospects Aaron Sanchez and Justin Nicolino so far, at least in terms of baserunners allowed (4 to 9) if not K's (4 to 9) edit: Josh Timmers ‏ @Cubsminorswrap Fabulous start by Kyler Burke for @peoriachiefs 6IP 3H 0R 1BB 4K. Only one of the hits left the infield.
  13. http://mlsplits.drivelinebaseball.com/mlsplits/playerinfo/543693 http://www.claydavenport.com/cgi-bin/splitcentricsplitsh.sh?name=RIDLING19860522A career: vs. RHP - .279/.323/.456 vs. LHP - .306/.353/.486
  14. Well we better hope so, as he's a first baseman, and not a particularly good defensive one at that. Also, on a more irrelevant note that's a useful reminder, Soto is two months younger than LaHair. Soto and LaHair have had pretty similar batted ball profiles so far. LaHair's LD% is higher(26% to 21%), but he's also had a higher K rate(31% to 23%. LaHair's BABIP is .524 and Soto's is .156. Normalize those and Soto probably comes out ahead. But anyway, aside from being a nice illustration of how crazy BABIP can be at this point in the season, LaHair has no purpose in this thread. to add to that point, positional average OPS for catcher is about 100 pts lower than for 1B
  15. why should Schmidt have won?
  16. Jackson's last two games (0-7, 0 K) were actually oddly encouraging
  17. yes, let's roll out the red carpet for a guy sporting a .688 OPS in the PCL, a place where even Tony Campana and Travis Wood can hit HRs
  18. Detroit Lions 85) WR Chris Givens, Wake Forest described as Gil Brandt as the best route runner in this year's draft, Givens adds depth to an already formidable WR corps for the Lions http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/760775/wffbt_medium.jpg
  19. Taijuan Walker, Nick Castellanos, Zach Lee, Christian Yelich, Zack Cox, Gary Brown, Tyrell Jenkins, Mike Olt, Aaron Sanchez, Bryce Brentz, Noah Syndergaard, Anthony Ranaudo, Asher Wojciechowski would have all been fine picks also at that spot now we're hoping we can get a couple Syndergaard- and Castellanos-types back in a package for the low price of Matt [expletive] Garza when we could've just had one just for the hell of it, had we not made a pick which was basically the equivalent of a lottery ticket where you stand to win like $1000 if it actually hits [expletive].
  20. oh, this is so good http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2012/04/indiana-coach-tom-crean-offers-scholarship-to-eighth-grader/1#.T48YA9VvDX4 wonder if UI will get in on the action
  21. 12 minutes into next game, Shanny enters the visitor's locker room and says "OK, you may go play now."
  22. i think he explained post-game he was being distracted by a fan donning Mizzou gear repeatedly hurling vicious death threats at him
  23. it appears Scout has UM #9 and Rivals have us #5, but i'll have to check with SSR to make sure that's right
  24. well, eventually a pig's lipstick will rub off
