  1. Cuban would hire a great GM and let the GM do his job. That doesn't mean he wouldn't also be looking for ways to improve the team. He and the GM would talk to consultants and stat guys (including some people who are "out of the box" compared to the baseball orthodoxy) to try to find anything they could do to make the team better. You wouldn't see any Pierre, Jones, or Perez acquisitions. He wouldn't be a meddling owner as much as a businessman prodding his guys for constant improvement. He'd be actively researching how to make the team better and getting the right advice to help his GM out.
  2. I'd have Z start the game and then Lilly finish the last 2-4 innings. Whole pen gets the day off.
  3. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/umpires/bio.jsp?id=3057 Dunno how the guy is even in the NL when his brother is a player (Randy Wolf; he's actually worked his brother's team's games).
  4. We'd be both the A's and Yankees of the NL if Cuban owned the team. An unstoppable combination. Remember, there's a salary cap in the NBA and stats don't exist to the level that they do in baseball. Cuban = sabrmetrics believer. I don't think MLB has the guts to handle the backlash from the fans if they put the kabosh on a fair Cuban bid for the team. The Cubs are worth a ton of money to every team in the league.
  5. oh noes, not the IMPENDINGDOOOM! *counters with HOGAN POWER* http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/ADVG/610~Hulk-Hogan-Posters.jpg
  6. I hope we see whoever is throwing on the side today instead of Eyre.
  7. Cards just lost too, so back in sole possession of 2nd place.

  9. Wow, the rain has almost completely fell apart.
  10. Yeah it looks like it may rain for a hour and they'll be able to finish it off after that.
  11. The only way to ruin Bonds for good is for someone to pass out plastic syringes in the bleachers during the game, and for everyone to throw them around Bonds at once. They'd replay that forever on TV.
  12. All hail King Felix, savior of the Cubs. 8-)
  13. Bad call, ump probably wants to go home.
  14. Lee's the last person we need to trade at this point.
  15. Well I haven't seen that fight, so I can't really comment on it. I'm not saying its right, but it happens, and we don't have to trade two good players because of it. Z and Barrett are FAs after this season. It's not like we have control over them for 5 more years. They're also having terrible years so far.
  16. You do know that they had another fight in the clubhouse after that, right? It was more than just "a little pushing and shoving".
  17. Weren't you big on Antonelli before? Did you cool on him or did White just grow on you more? Im an Antonelli guy. White's no different than, say, hiring Tim Wilken as our GM. I'd hire Ng before white. Who's Antonelli? Assistant to Shapiro in Cleveland. Regarded as one of the top GM candidates out there. Relies heavily on modern statistical methods. Sounds awesome. Pretty much guarantees the Cubs won't hire him. He probably won't even apply for the job. I have one last bit of hope because of McDounough. He strikes me as a sound business guy, so I'm hoping he will realize that this direction the Cubs need to take right now. He won't be around with the new owner. It's likely they make no GM change until the team gets sold. Pray it's someone like Cuban who would hire a Beane-type of GM.
  18. Not when you're 2-11 in one run games. Some of A-Rod's 19 HRs alone would significantly improve that. If we were just 7-6 in one-run games we'd be tied with the Brewers. There's not a large margin between us being a mediocre team and being a slightly above average team (which would be enough to win the NL Central).
  19. The more pressing hole is at SS/2B (depending on where Lou plays Theriot). We've got enough people who can play OF for it to be workable.
