    Obviously they want the most money they can get for the team, but an owner who tanked the team wouldn't be good for WGN's bottom line, or the Chicago Tribune's, to a much lesser extent. I'm sure they sold a few more papers during the 2003 postseason than they normally do. It's not a huge factor, but if two bids were equal it'd break the tie.

    No way...I just don't see that happening. I do. We just came off a huge series in St. Louis, burying the Cardinals. Returning home to a Wrigley crowd that's likely to be pretty lively, as well as playing a crappy team, I think we're going to win. Despite our struggles against them, the Reds are not a good team. Hell, we SHOULD sweep. Actually they've played pretty well since they canned their manager. And unfortunately, we get Harang 2x in our last 6 games with the Reds.

    The other unique situation with the Tribune is they have the resources to give MLB or any of the individual owners a pretty big black eye if they want to force the team into taking a lowball bid. They're a very powerful media company. With stuff like the steroid scandal floating around I wouldn't want them digging around if I were Selig or any of the other owners. The desire to get the best deal done to make/save the most money trumps everything else for Zell's Tribune.

    IF we go into the playoffs hot, we can beat anyone.

    Indy isn't close to the best potential market but they'd outdraw Miami for sure. Intradivision games with the Cubs/Reds/Cards would all draw really well. The Indians (AAA) draw 600k/year as it is. Cincinnati would balk big-time though.

    The last few games probably depends on how far down to the wire the race goes. If we've clinched, they'll want to reset the rotation for the Divisional series. Trachsel definitely stays as insurance/garbage man.

    Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he's still on something... his comeback has been pretty unnatural. LaRussa can't get a free pass for letting this go on at this point either, and one could speculate that the fact that bad players go to the Cards and suddenly get good is more than just dumb luck.

    I could care less, we were like at 95% odds to make the playoffs in 2004 at that site at one point.

    Hopefully they push it back to the last game of the season, only (if necessary).

    Marquis just pitched three days ago; he's not going to be able to pitch tonight. It's bullpen time if the game resumes, followed by Lilly and an emergency callup tomorrow. It would have been different if there was an earlier off-day this time through the rotation. The hope is he hasn't thrown his side-session yet and will be good for a couple innings so that the pen isn't completely screwed.

    Awesome, Indianapolis gets COPS instead of the end of the Cubs/Cards game. Louisville Fox TV cut into the Bengals/Saints preseason game.
