  1. Just WIN... we are TIED in the loss column with both the Central and Wildcard leaders. We control our own destiny.
  2. How can you say Dunn is 8 runs worse defensivley then Glaus when you have Glaus playing out of position (SS or RF) with the Cubs? Makes no sense. Because RF isn't a very hard position to play. The way these weights are decided use real data of players making the transition too and from positions, so it accounts for it. If you're really going to play people out of position, the guy to move is Derrek Lee, who athletically could easily play in the OF. You can replace him with a big bat at 1B easily. Hell, Lee could probably play CF.
  3. Selig must have talked to the ump before the game.
  4. http://www.nydailynews.com/img/2007/07/21/amd_backpage_0721.jpg http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2007/07/21/2007-07-21_jurys_in_on_bonds-7.html Sounds like they're going to have a pretty strong case against him.
  5. Another factor to keep in mind is MLB's antitrust exemption isn't on very sturdy legal ground these days, and Cuban has the type of resources to mount a legal challenge. I don't see how the Bush Supreme Court ruling against someone's right to sell their business to the highest bidder.
  6. Bonds would deserve it... the guy is not only a cheater, but someone who broke the law by abusing illegal substances. He would have still been one of the greatest players in the modern era and a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he had to cheat since he wanted attention. And if you don't think steroid abuse is a big deal, look at Chris Benoit.
  7. Seriously, why don't they have instant replay in baseball where a manager can challenge a couple calls a game?
  8. Tons if you'd count the value of the Cubs TV rights that the Trib is pocketing right now.
  9. Rich Hill needs to never publicly speak again. I hope someone put him up to talking in that voice.
  10. This gametime must be 2:55 ET, because I'm not seeing a game *checks yahoo* Actually it's at 3:55 ET... Cubs.com really screwed up.
  11. Because he has an obligation to the people in his equity group to make the best deal he can off this sale. His fandom or being a friend of Reinsdorf doesn't mean jack. We're talking about millions of dollars here.
  12. That's not correct in basketball, so you're greatly oversimplifying things. As said, Cuban's been trying to make SABR stats for basketball since he bought the Mavs, so I don't think we have to worry about him just getting stylish players.
  13. Z seems to really want Cuban to own the team (and Lou likes him too). http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AtPGy5PKtaVBSGnnmF8Hk3URvLYF?slug=ap-cubs-cuban&prov=ap&type=lgns Add that to Lee, Floyd, and Dempster http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/baseball/marlins/sfl-mikeb10jun10,0,148706.column
  14. His players love him and he's surrounded himself with a bunch of stat guys in Dallas. Jeff Sagrin (statistician for USA Today) does custom player stats for him amongst other. He's read Moneyball and has been trying to develop a comparable system for basketball for the last few years. He's not a traditional owner at all and thinks outside the box. Anyone can e-mail him and he's probably going to respond. He blogs and reads his comments on Blog Maverick. He wants to win so he'd spend money on top of that. We'd be a dynasty in the NL with him as the owner. He's a fan of the Cubs and loves Wrigley, and likely minority owner Todd Wagner is a Chicagoland native. I'd expect online coverage to improve signficantly (he'd probably push against the mlb.com blackout rules) and all the Cubs games would be in HD. HDNet would probably simulcast some Cubs games. Wrigley would definitely have Wifi throughout the whole park (not that you can't get on open networks from across the street anyway).
  15. If Wagner is involved as well with the bid, there's going to be no easy way for MLB to deny them. And the Cuban/Wagner assets (entertainment and online media holdings) would be a lot more attractive to integrate into the Tribune than what other ownership groups offer.
  16. MLB really needs to hear it from us... Cuban deserves a shot to own the team if he has the best bid. Cuban has media assets like HDNet, 2929 Entertainment. and Rysher Entertainment, plus stakes in Lionsgate Films & The Weinstein Group that the Trib would be interested in. http://www.rysherentertainment.com/ Check out all that programming, for instance. Oh yeah, Cuban's billionaire buddy and regular business partner Todd Wagner (who co-founded Broadcast.com & owns HDnet/2929 with him) is probably involved with the bid as well I bet... he's from the region (Merillville), so that fullfils the "local ownership" requirement. He co-owns part of the Mavs with Cuban as well.
  17. It'd be funny if Arod bought the Cubs and was a player/owner.
  18. "Stupid gaijin", followed by
  19. Wood will be back... BELIEVE!
  20. It really feels like the pieces are falling into place... imho, we're a trade away. We are only 6.5 back in the division (really only 6 in the L column) and 5 back in the WC.
  21. Really long term, it's a lock to be broken with advances in medical technology. I wouldn't bet against players regularly playing until they're 50 or 60, if not indefinitely in 200 years.
  22. Ivy ate the ball, probably would have been a triple otherwise.
