  1. I don't mean to be insensitive or anything, and I know several people that go to VT, but there are about 89 firearm deaths on the average day. This is a horrible tragedy, but there are tragedies everyday. You can't cancel events for every tragedy especially when there's no connection between the tragedy and the event. I agree with this post completely. If it was a Chicago Cubs v.s. Virginia Tech Hokies game today it'd be a different story.
  2. It's just mind-boggling to me that this team hasn't been able to hit HRs so far.
  3. dang... he got all that and it went foul
  4. Cuban needs to get the team... he runs the Mavs based on a lot of statistical analysis (even though he's discovered that stats aren't great for player selection in the NBA since the coach has too much impact). http://www.blogmaverick.com/2004/04/01/moneyball-for-the-nba/ http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/stories/MYSA040206.10C.COL.BKNmonroe.rockets.2b7eea0.html We'd be in the playoffs nearly every year under Cuban once he got his system set up. Nobody in the NL can compete with that kind of wise spending plus pure resources unless the Mets hire a Moneyball guy.
  5. We'll see how it goes, but this is looking like a pretty boneheaded decision so far. Hamilton has 2 HRs in 9 at-bats and the Reds fans love his story.
  6. Samardzija is a ways behind Veal and Gallagher, IMO. He's still very raw. He still has a lot of work to do on his secondary pitches. He's mostly throwing fastballs so far. Notre Dame luck cancels out Cubs luck, so you know Samardzija will be healthy at least.
  7. Cuban could have really turned around the Cubs quick if Hendry hadn't spent all that money in the offseason. I don't think he'd spend much more on the team itself than the Trib is this year. I guess he did turn the Mavs around almost instantly (and the NBA has a salary cap), so he'll find some way to dump some bad contracts. The Mavs' winning percentage is insane since he took over.
  8. Marquis didn't have a good outing by any stretch of the imagination, but he didn't pitch us out of the game today.
  9. At least bullpen pitcher Rick "Ace" White of the 6.3 something ERA last year will have to come out.
  10. *waits patiently for law of averages to kick in*
  11. The big problem is the offense has sucked... we ought to be able to score 5 runs a game. Everyone's in a huge slump except for Lee and Aram.
  12. Yes, but we're never going to get a pen of mostly homegrown kids as long as we keep drafting people with "teh awesome stuff" and hoping they develop control.
  13. Cubs can only be saved by the power of Tenacious D playing at Wrigley Field. http://www.iwatchstuff.com/images/2006/08/tenacious-d-trailer.jpg
  14. Fonzie (and everyone on this team except DeRosa) is overdue to jack one.
  15. Soriano's due for a HR... Ward needs to get on and make this interesting.
  16. Nope, Murton is in :) Fonzie game winnah HR coming up. :D
  17. Yeah, they've been taking a lot more pitches than last year... the only guy really hacking is Soriano. Every bat doesn't have to go to a full count.
  18. I'll eat crow... I thought he was a AAAA player before his run at the end of last year but now I believe.
  19. Izturis with the double off the wall! Looks like the Big Blue Machine showed up from Arizona with the offense.
  20. There's no reason a dummy corporation couldn't buy the team, with the fans as stockholders. The CEO of the corporation would essentially be the purchaser of the team.
  21. We'll be there... no rain tommorrow, looks like a great day for a game.
  22. I believe we were close to 1st in the NL in SLG too, so if this keeps up we'll have a heckuva offense.
  23. There's no reason to trade Jones until after interleague play ends. Having a big bat like Floyd on the bench to DH neutralizes any advantage AL teams have over us.
