    Considering how many 1-run games we lost early in the year, the margin between this team being the best in the NL (let's say 91 wins) and a "medicore" 85 wins or so is pretty narrow. If you make our record in 1-run games a mere .500 in the first 2 months of the season, you're right up there at 90 wins. If they won those 1-run games then at a 66% clip like they have the rest of the year we'd have home field advantage already clinched for the NL.

    http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/023242.php Very good chance for at least one playoff game on Monday, and a couple different "massive ties" scenario with 3-way or 4-way ties with 2-3 days worth of games and essentially a wild-card tournament. That could potentially wreck some teams' rotations and bullpens for the Divisional Series.

    Momentum definitely exists in baseball, but it's not nearly as big of a factor as it is in football or especially basketball since baseball's based on individual play and a degree of luck. And you definitely can have momentum within any frame of time, over part of an inning, 5 innings, or 15 games.

    well said. I like to really know how many of the posters here go 100% at work 24/7. I'd guess many posters are at work while they are browsing NSB. You're not getting paid $136 million either to do what you love to do, nor do you get 4-5 months off a year.

    I bet if the Cubs are on TBS during the NLDS, we'll get Robinson/Simpson, seeing as that's the only pair without Cubs' ties, either formerly or presently. Eh, everyone on the list has conflicts: Chip: ex-Cubs PBP Tony Gwynn: Shouldn't work Padres games for obvious reasons Robinson: ex Mets PBP guy Simpson: Former Angels player Orsillo: Current Red Sox PBP guy (shouldn't work Sox or Yankees games) Stone: former Cubs color guy for years Stockton: Former Red Sox PBP guy Brenly: Current Cubs Color guy and ex-DBacks manager Depending on how things shake out, it may be unavoidable that they have to put a "homer" in the booth for a game.
