We'd also lose a 2nd round draft pick if we sign Shields, so that money that we can't spend in the draft could go to Shields (if we don't spend it on IFAs)

Shields' market seems to have completely collapsed so it's worth taking a look at for sure.

Schwarber's gonna be good I'm very confident he's wrong about Schwarber. Worst-case scenario is he's an above-average defender in LF who can really hit. He's got all the tools to be a MLB catcher... just a matter of whether the Cubs let him develop them.

Mom and Dad could be on the Sopranos. - The story about Rizzo/Lester being cancer bros - Some college-age cancer dude crying about how Rizzo hit "2 home runs for him" and blew him kisses after the HRs.

If we're really going to try to compete it doesn't make any sense to forfeit a couple weeks worth of wins because we're worried about an extra year of control for Bryant (which only costs coughing up the money to Boras).

If you want to win in 2015, you don't trade Castro. He's a proven MLB player under a team-friendly contract. Baez/Russell are big question marks to produce at SS.

Valbuena was going to get moved anyway once Bryant came up so I'm fine with this. Fowler gives us a legit leadoff hitter with great OBP. I don't think his D will be horrible in Wrigley. He can always be shifted to LF and Alcantara move to CF. I think he's someone who will really benefit from Joe Maddon. We still kept all our core prospects... Valbuena only has a couple years of control and there's not room for the Straily experiment to continue.

Hopefully Crane is underpromising and overdelivering on the bleacher construction timeline since it's a joke if it takes until late May. It's supposed to be warmer than normal from here on out.

Did those people watch on WGN local or WGN America? If WGN local, why wouldn't they be able to watch on other local Chicago outlets? Here is WGN TV's broadcast range (the solid line) http://i.imgur.com/QWUQc9e.png Here is the blackout area for MLB TV (everything in blue which is nearly all of Illinois, all of Iowa, and most of Indiana and a bit of Wisconsin) http://i.imgur.com/DVY8BLQl.png Right now everyone in the blue outside of metro Chicago can watch all the games sans the WCIU ones on CSN Chicago and WGN America. In 2015 they're only going to be able to see the CSN Chicago games.

2-3 years? The Cubs weren't expecting to compete until 2017-2018? Thank God Lester chose the Cubs I think the traditional national baseball media didn't realize that the Cubs were basically .500 after the selloff. I think Theo always intended to try to compete but getting Maddon & Lester is making him more aggressive to try to win big in 2015.
