  1. Kelly, Boyd and Pomeranz have had extended periods of success prior to becoming Cubs. Palencia is 25 and still has under 100 IP in the majors. Issac Collins was organizational filler entering the year. Andrew Vaughn had over 2000 MLB PAs of negative WAR, competing for worst player in baseball.
  2. The 2016 Cubs went 5-15 at one point. This sucks, but it happens to every team. We entered the day with the 2nd best record in baseball.
  3. That was a thought i had, as well
  4. Bobby Witt Jr would have the 6th highest wRC+ in our lineup. Just trying to stay positive.
  5. The Cubs have the 2nd best record in baseball. I mean, I certainly have concerns moving forward, but some perspective is healthy.
  6. This has the feeling of a Reds-solo-HR kind of inning.
  7. It's a little weird how Boog and J.D. seem to avoid saying good things about Ben Brown when he's pitching well.
  8. Brown has great stuff and throws a ton of strikes. You'd certainly think a good career is right there.
  9. Perhaps a hot take, but I think PCA is actually in the midst of making adjustments that will lead to an even bigger breakout. I know there have been some bad hacks, but there have also been some better swing decisions recently. I've seen him lay off a number of pitches that he was chasing before. He's still expanding when he gets frustrated, but I think he's working on it.
  10. We're a traumatized fanbase. Got the Big One out of the way, but it's hard not to revert to the anxiety we've always felt when the team is good, just waiting for the football to be yanked away at the last second.
  11. I think this is correct
  12. I was only suggesting that if this isn't a year worth aggressively augmenting then what is?
  13. They currently have the 2nd best record.
  14. I am already weary of the resident optimists explaining how this was a prudent set of moves.
  15. I like Gore and am not as high on Horton as some, but I do not want to include him in that trade. So much team control, and he already has shown value.
  16. Under-performing guys over 30 everywhere!
  17. If I was in a Make-a-wish kind of scenario, I would probably choose to be in the room for the week of the trade deadline. The machinations of this stuff are utterly fascinating to me, and though I've heard countless stories, I still can't quite understand how these moves go down.
  18. I love Gore but it's worth remembering that he has been very good, not elite. His fastball is pretty average in terms of shape, velo, etc. Projecting improvement is not crazy, however. He's still just 26. He has two years of team control after this year. Overall, I'd say Ryan is the more valuable guy, but not by a huge margin. Cabrera hasn't made that leap yet, but I think it's coming. Might be my #1 choice if it means keeping our big names.
