  1. Yeah, I'm really not so sure about that. I mean, what else can he work on? He clearly dominates AAA hitting, it's almost not even fair. But every time we bring him up he gets rocked like nobody's business. I think Hendry has realized this, and will probably include him in a midseason trade. Hopefully for someone like Dunn, Cabrera, Carlos Lee, or Manny. That's more wish-list than reality though. :D its obviously a mental thing with hill. he has above average stuff and has found his control in iowa. i dont think its unliklely that he puts it together in the majors if he gets a chance to start again. he is still only 25 and lefties tend to mature later than righties for whatever reason. His control has vanished when hes gotten to the big leagues. I think you have to give him a chance to settle in with a few starts and see what happens.
  2. Too bad I can't see this game. I have to gradaute, what a waste of time. :D
  3. Williamson DL?
  4. There could be a positive other than being a better team in the short run. Nevin is a streaky hitter and will get a lot of playing time in the coming weeks until Lee comes back when he is less needed. If he catches fire for that time, he could bring in something more valuable from a contender than whatever JHJR would be worth at the time getting no playing time behing Womack/Neifi
  5. Oh no, the two wins a row combined with this trade and a great AAA outing by Rich Hill are combining for optimism..................I can't help it, I have to say it....... WORLD SERIES K, I think I gathered myself. Nice move, probably won't matter but maybe Nevin will produce and he can be shipped out to a contender for a legit minor leaguer?
  6. I agree it is likely to go up but don't put to much thought into it. How many Braves did the Cubs strike out Sunday? And how many runs did they give up? Things like baserunners and opponents average are cool but I don't care about K's as long as they get outs. I'll take a one pitch at bat where a batter pops out all day compared to a six pitch strike out. The theory is that pitchers don't really have much control of the outcome once the bat strikes the ball. A low K rate therefore can be a sign of impending doom. FWIW, Sir Sidney has never been able to miss bats, or judges for that matter. That's an interesting theory, but seems pretty weak when you consider that the two top pitching teams in baseball (Detroit and St. Louis) have horrible K/9 rates. Same for the White Sox. Last year, the top 2 teams (St. Louis and Houston) were pretty mediocre when it came to K/9. Historically, K/9 has very little correlation to the success of a pitching staff. Not only k/9 are figured but also HR and BB rate. I think one of those 2 might have been A LITTLE below average yesterday, no?
  7. holy crap i was coming to post the same exact thing, except I don't think I was going to use a colon. That might be useful when dealing with a piece of crap like the 06 cubs
  8. I think its because there's a track record for letting old bad players who had mediocre years come back for more years. I agree and that's why I included that in my post. I saw that, but you treat them as independent events. In my mind, every time Womack gets an AB, its another step closer to "impressing" enough to get resigned. Keep him off the field, and the danger is much less.
  9. GAH! OBP is probably the most important stat in a hitter. Why is there such antagonism towards the walk!? I'm sure if there was a guy who could run and walk, we'd all be happy.
  10. I might be missing something here, but how does giving up more talent than you are receiving make you a better team from year to year?
  11. It's bad when a guy with a career .316 OBP is an upgrade over your current leadoff man.
  12. How about the ball rolls away in the RF corner, but Jacque thinks its in the ivy and proceeds to destroy the ivy on the entire RF wall while looking for the ball and the Braves win.
  13. Wow, the 2nd base brigade sure is coming through.
  14. I think its because there's a track record for letting old bad players who had mediocre years come back for more years.
  15. So, the days are lined up so Prior can make his first start of the year when Wood goes back to the DL?
  16. Yeah, Guz is coming off injury and still hasn't returned to old form completely. Give him this whole year of regular starts and there's some good hope. Hill just needs to translate his control to the major league level and this is Ryu's first ever start so you can't write him off.
  17. A few concerns with Womack. One, he produces enough to be signed through 07 instead of Walker or giving EPatt a chance. Two, once Pie is called up for Pierre, Womack is used as the "speedy leadoff man" and gets a vast majority of the starts. Three, he's terrible.
  18. I think Marshall being less than dominant is going to prevent him from being too overused. With Prior's first full campaign, I can see how it would be really hard to not let him throw more. Also, the team is going nowhere. When Prior was coming back from the Giles incident, those were some big stakes games.
  19. This is the first complaint I can remember about Speier. Lets just hope Dusty isn't telling him to be more aggressive or something.
  20. I can picture it now..... Felix Pie draws a walk, goes down to first base and is met by Sarge. Sarge: GET BACK TO THE PLATE AND SWING THE BAT! Felix: Okay, coach! Von Joshua: I quit!
  21. Dusty needs to be fired end of story. BTW - Woody Paige is another guy who should be punched. He's such an annoying prick. I completely agree that Dusty needs to go, but it isn't in me to root against the team.
  22. I'd really just be happy with the Cubs doing as well as they can without making any short sighted moves. IMO 70-92 is completely terrible and anything worse would be a horrible, horrible embarrassment. It's too bad this team is heading in that direction. Also-DJ and Mike North are great suggestions. I was actually going to add DJ after the Cubs-Sox series, but I forgot or something.
