  1. I don't know if we're going to be able to afford both, the tribsters aren't magically just going to give Hendry all the $$$ he wants to go out and get top-notch free-agents. With the Cubs luck we'll be lucky if we get the big bat or the starter. There's a lot of money coming off the books (Pierre, Maddux, Wood) and I think I remember Hendry being allowed to go up to ~105 million this year, but it came in quite a bit short of that. With the new revenue and money coming off the books, I think getting both is plausible.
  2. From what I read, the final ballot is selected by MLB from the pool of players who received the most votes on the player's ballots, but did not make the team. Statistically, AJP is the second best starting offensive catcher in the AL, by any measure, and is having a better season than the fan's choice. He was also on the 2002 AL AS team, selected by Joe Torre, during a lesser season than he is having now. I agree Hafner and Liriano should be on the ballot, but why the assumption that Liriano should be on the team? Liriano wasn't even a starting pitcher until seven weeks ago, and so far has only started against three teams in his own league- Seattle, Baltimore and LA Angels, all of which are at the bottom of the AL in offense. Throw in his NL starts, and he's only pitched against one team with an above average offense. I agree he will probably be an All Star in the future, but why not let him actually pitch around the league once or twice to prove it first? Umm, I beg to differ Your AL Catchers offensively Mauer (aka God) .388/.458/.550 Pudge .304/.330/.448 Victor Martinez .313/.379/.484 Posada .281/.390/.471 AJ .324/.368/452 Ramon Hernandez .271/.332/.488 Johjima .291/.342/.466
  3. If you had to choose (which you shouldn't) I say you obvioiusly go with the bat. While you have a good number of starters who will soon be ready for the majors, there are barely any power hitting OFers in the minor league system, let alone ready to play for the big league club.
  4. Prior is a major league pitcher and this team isn't in the pennant race. He should work on his stuff while trying to get major leaguers out not some bad AAA BS. Just let him work out and work everything towards having him ready for 07. DISCLAIMER - A little bit of drinking tonight.
  5. Lo Duca is the fans choice, and can't be argued with. Barrett/MccCann is the real choice for the rest of the roster and you'd have to with with McCann. Also, Zambrnao deserves to go, he's been great, and got out of his hitting slump in a BIG way.
  6. Where's Tyler Colvin the K master and Jake Fox. I demand to know where they are. DISCLAIMER - I've had a little to drink tonight.
  7. Murton hasn't produced at all this year. It's not like Barrett is insulting a player who has put up good numbers and might not actually need to be replaced. A platoon with Jones would be best for him until he gets out of this Dusty driven aggressiveness and develops a little power. Disclaimer - I've had a little to drink tonight
  8. Some parting thoughts from me - Dusty sucks for leaving in Zambrano, and for other reasons. This game sohould be evidence for firing. Zambrano is a beast. Murton is continuing his journey towards super aggresive hitting, I believe he swung at all 5 pitches he saw. I'd like to see more Angel Pagan, possibly Pierre's replacement when he gets traded. Barrett should be in the ASG. Nice watching this game with ya'll.
  9. No other real options outside of Montanez. 'Lix I wouldn't consider that an option at the moment, but Hendry might.
  10. No other real options outside of Montanez.
  11. Those two fans just shown on WGN are the biggest fools ever.
  12. I've lost a ton of interest. I'm really watching this because I got nothing else to do. Now, if a managerial change is made, and some moves are made, and some kids play, then I'll have to check some of it out.
  13. Anyone think when Hawk says "stretch" (and his latest invention is "get longer!") he isn't really talking to the ball?
  14. He sure is making it difficult to be traded.
  15. How much $/year is Crede gonna get in his next contract?
  16. Hawk is the reason I quit watching them when they were on. The rule is, if the Sox are winning, turn them off. If they are losing, its pure gold. Break out the tivo, VCR, microphone, whatever.
  17. Haha, Hawk says Ozzie is as good of a manager as he has seen. I'm gonna have to watch more Sox games.
  18. He doesn't want to play for stupid Baker and this stupid ballclub anyways I heard him in an interview this morning on 670 in Ofman's and Rogers' "Hit and Run" program and he was careful with his words but you can tell he's sour about Howry/Eyre getting a lot of work and Dusty playing favorites or as he put it "being more comfortable with guys who he knows what they can do"
  19. I'd say don't bunt, but then again, Neifi is batting lefty.
  20. Is that 5 pitches seen and 5 swings for Murton?
  21. and......DJ accuses the Cubs of stealing signs
