  1. Who would you have in CF next year then? I dont' think Pie is quite ready. Dave Roberts is a cheap, short term option in center, or you can move Jacque there as others have mentioned, if an impact corner OF could be brought in.
  2. Vasquez looks amazing as a 4th starter next season if a Schmidt/Zito are signed. Then the surplus arms can get the corner OF. This premium on middle relievers could be great for the Cubs, depending on Hendry's selling ability.
  3. Why in the world would you do that? okay, how about russell branyan? Branyan strikes out way to much to be a everyday player No he doesn't, and he was advocating a bench role. Branyan played in 134 games in 02 and struckout 151 times in 378 AB. If he played 162 games he would strikeout about 180 times. Not to mention he has a career .232 average. Just what we need more guys who cannot hit the ball. He may hit the HR but im not sure if he is a guy I would want on my team. I've also heard before that Branyan needs to play everyday and get ABs to do well and can't really handle a bench role.
  4. Barrett was a butcher at 3rd and has said he doesn't want to change positions. Barrett's offense from the catching position makes him valuable. His production as a corner infielder would make him very ordinary. I don't think he should be moved to third, but if Barrett were a third baseman this year and had enough ABs to qualify, he would rank 6 of all ML thirdbasemen in OPS. that's not ordinary. That's true, but going forward I don't think we can expect Barrett to continue to put up a .900 OPS. Also, the average replacement at third will likely put up better numbers than that at Catcher
  5. Terrible trade. We all knew they could probably benefit from trading some hitting for pitching, but this right here is ridiculous.
  6. I think Fontenot did something to somebody to make him disliked by this organization. I don't understand why he hasn't been called up at any time even though he did ok in his brief stay in 2005. He's short and not toolsy. so are marcus giles and eckstein and the've done pretty well in the majors imo. mf bats lefty too which is a plus. yeah, well, it may be safe to say that giles and eckstein wouldn't have gotten the same shot w/the cubs as they did with their respective team. fontenot isn't really the type of player the organization is valuing at the moment.
  7. Sorry Jim talking in the third person, only makes you look like a bigger jerk. Boers and Bernstein ripped Hendry today for his comments, specifically him talking in the third person. It was enjoyable. Boers and Bernstein need to be punched in the face, just like all those other broadcaster Ceaser has in his sig to punch They've inched dangerously close in the past, then they made me laugh a little. You gotta understand, I can't be too liberal with the list.

  9. If you want to go cheap, why not try Mike Fontenot? Hopefully Neifi can be stuffed in a locker when Walker gets dealt so we can see what he can do at the major league level. He could put up a nice OBP at the position.
  10. Oh, Lord, YES. I caught them playing a snippet of him sitting along the river in Pittsburgh playing Oasis' "Wonderwall" with a guy on the sax and I swear my TV started crying. That album of his...I can't stop shaking! I started laughing uncontrollably. That singing in addition to his girlish locks are just too much.
  11. When talking about why ARod hasn't been dealt to the Cubs yet, Jim Hendry just said "why would Jim steal from the Yankees?"
  12. Yes, they will. The Astros announcers last week made a good point in regard to your comment. Sure the Cubs are going to suffer this year, but it is obvious that at least some of these kids (Marshall, Marmol) have potential to be outstanding pitchers with some more experience. Yeah, it would be a positive of trading Maddux. It would be great to have an idea of what you got going into the offseason at SP.
  13. If you got rid of Ramirez you would obviously have to get someone back in return to play third. I would love to see Hendry get creative and possibly pull off some kind of deal to get ARod from the Yankees, and the only way they would give up ARod would be if they got some talent in return, Ramirez, Jones, maybe a couple of youngsters, or get some other team involved. I don't think it is totally absurd to think this could be a possiblilty as the fans BOO him. If Hendry could work some kind of package to fill some of the Yanks immediate needs (Pitching, Outfield) He could possibly get something done. Not sayings there is a chance this will happen, I just don't think it is out of the realm of possiblity. So Ramirez to the Yanks for ARod, not to the Padres for any deal, I like that a lot better. If a corner OF is added, it comes down to which is better, Ramirez and a Jones/Murton platoon or ARod and Murton? I think I'd be willing to take my chances on Murton to get the guy with better defense, less injury concern and much better offense.
  14. There's no solution at 3B to readily replace Ramirez. Taking out the 2nd best bat out of a lineup with no replacement strategy is just a dumb move, hustle or not. You at least have to try to add some major talent in the offseason and turn the team into a contender before you can dump players like this.
  15. He might have gotten into his rum during the All-Star festivities. It is very bad to drink Jobu's rum.
  16. Teahen (.356/.505 the last 30 days) hasn't been that bad either.
  17. The Rams got some better skill position players, but that's it. With a 1st year coaching staff, things aren't looking too good.
  18. the score is just reporting it right now
  19. Rams hahahahaha hahahahahha hahahhaah I'd pick the 49ers to finish better at this point.
  20. The all star game or the world series? I don't care what they do with the AS game, it's meangingless garbage. Hopefully it gets rained out tonight. If it's the WS, don't you still have to address HFA even with a neutral site due to the different rules in each league. Now what you can do is go to a neutral site and abolish the DH.....
  21. Anyone thinking of going to Bourbonnais this year?
  22. Even if the Cubs finally face reality and give up on the season, Patterson shouldn't be called up yet. He's having a good season in AA, but this is only his second pro season. They ruined his brother's development by calling him up before he was ready; hopefully they won't do the same thing with Eric. I wouldn't mind a September callup, but I doubt that would happen since they'd need to add him to the 40-man roster and start the option clock to do so. Agreed, Theriot or Fontenot should get a shot towards the end of the year. If either of those guys prove to be marginal or better they could be stop gaps for EPatt in late 07/08
  23. I actually know a Packer fan who would be willing to take that bet, quite easily. Somehow a broken down Charles Woodson who never learned technique and some rookie LBs means division champs. Go Bears! Here's to a cakewalk NFC North title!
  24. If this thread turns into a giant eulogy, thanks for the memories, Kerry, it's been fun (when you were pitching) and when you weren't melting down and giving up a grand slam to bobby abreu
