  1. How am I going to hear my cell phone when people are making noise? I'm really getting tired of all the Biffs and Trixies who spend most of the game talking on their cell phone or text messaging.
  2. Of course they'll retire 42 -- it's already been done by MLB (Jackie Robinson). I was just wondering because the Cubs aren't as free and easy with retiring numbers as some other teams are.
  3. One other thing: the Cardinals have announced they will retire his number 42. Since I know the unwritten rule in major sports is that teams retire numbers in the reverse order of where a player served, I wonder if the Cubs will retire his number next?
  4. I still remember my dad calling me into the room whenever Sutter would come in to close the game for the Cubs. He kept pointing out how Sutter's pitches just dropped like a stone at the last moment. An article I saw said that Sutter picked the Cardinals cap because that's what his kids remember most; they were too young to remember his time with the Cubs. I guess I can accept that. Glad he got in when he did. Sounds like his wife has be putting up a good fight against that b*tch called cancer that last few years.
  5. And the whole "best fans in baseball" silliness is not something that every Cardinal fan touts like it's a fact. Granted, some idiots do, but certainly you can't lump the morons in with intelligent fans. Every team has intelligent fans, every team has idiots. Such is life. Why then is there constant graphics on the scoreboards and whatnot that read "Best Fans In Baseball - Sporting News"? That and the whole "Baseball Heaven" thing bothers me too... really the new Busch is just a new park just like any other. The Best Fans in Baseball = Cardinal Fans routine is nauseating. Maybe the fact that Joe Buck and LaRussa are figure-heads of these fans bother me as well. It's all hyperbole from the marketing department. No different than "Titletown USA" or "America's Team" or "the House that Ruth Built"
  6. Has he thrown anything inside? Hrabosky did knock Wrigley in saying the clubhouse is small and is a horrible place to be during rain delays. He also said visibility from the dugouts is poor because the field is crowned so much.
  7. Specifically how so? Talking about how they really enjoy coming to Wrigley and all the stuff there is to do in the city.
  8. Half shirt boy gets a bloop. On Fox Sports Midwest Hrabosky and the other dude are really praising Wrigley field and Chicago in general.
  9. That was a laser. I think it hurt that dude it hit in the shoulder.
  10. Weaver sucks. Now it's 2-0. Should be 3-0 though.
  11. Don't they make you enter at certain gates (based upon where you are sitting) and limit your movement around? A buddy was telling me he couldn't even visit a friend sitting two decks up from his box seats.
  12. Coming from a Royals fan, I would expect sour grapes. It seems that many from KC have a general loathing for St. Louis, and I'm not really sure why. And the whole "best fans in baseball" silliness is not something that every Cardinal fan touts like it's a fact. Granted, some idiots do, but certainly you can't lump the morons in with intelligent fans. Every team has intelligent fans, every team has idiots. Such is life. As for the throwing the ball back after home runs, I agree that it's stupid to be done in Busch. But it doesn't happen after every home run. In fact, I've only seen it done twice. Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. I thought you all might dig this, even though I think it's pretty wrong. Sorry to say this, but I agree. Kansas City has an inferiority complex to St. Louis like St. Louis has one to Chicago. This "article" (actually a blog) would read no different if a St. Louis native moved to the North Side of Chicago, a San Francisco native moved to LA or a Boston resident moved to New York.

  14. Not possible: his head hasn't grown ten sizes. Look at the growth of Barry, Sammy, McGwire and Tony Gwynn's melons over the years. I'm sorry... Tony Gwynn?! Sure his melon might be big, but he's big all-"around." That's true. I saw him walk out of the Westin a few years ago. Now there's a dude that didn't miss the pre and post gajme buffets.

  16. I'm having a good time watching all these games. However I'm getting sick and friggin' tired of every time a player gets slightly brushed againts, he goes down screaming in pain as if shot with a large-caliber gun. Could you imagine American Football with this sort of dramatics? Has anyone been given a yellow card for diving yet?
  17. Is it just me or did the English players look like they didn't want to be there during the penalty kicks?
  18. The Gaints gap is a biggie. Especially when they have to look across the bay and see the A's victories. Or down the coast to the Dodgers.
  19. I've thought about the same thing when at my last Cubs/Cards series at Busch. But then I backed off when I remembered that 24 is much less than 98. Plus with MLB (and all the major sports) now having 30 or more teams, winning a championship will become less frequent event. Why couldn't the Cubs have won sometime between 1908 and the expansion of the early 60's when there was like 14 or 16 teams in the big leagues? If anyone has the right to be ashamed it's the Braves and their poor post-season record after winning the division for like 15 years straight.
  20. Gibson rarely hit batters. True. My dad, while being a big Cubs fan, was almost as big a fan of Gibson and constantly preached to me about him. Gibson had too much pride to plunk anyone; he just had surgical control and owned the inside of the plate. Legend has it he knew how to make his brush-back pitches louder than his other pitches. (same with Sandy Koufax) Plus Gibson had to go to the plate and hit. That's why I hate the American League and the DH: just stupid. BTW: Did you know that Gibson was the 2nd best hitting pitcher of the modern era? He was sometimes used as a pinch hitter. He was also a Harlem Globe Trotter for a short time before playing baseball.
  21. Is Ozzie the new Lou Pinnela?
  22. I'm just hoping for a year without the Braves in post season action. I love seeing the stands 1/2 full at Turner Field for the first, even second round of the playoffs.
  23. A video screen just doesn't work at the current Wrigley. I'm not one of those hard core Kool-aid traditionalists, but it just doesn't fit in. That being said I think we'll see a replacement of Wrigley within a decade. - after the Cardinals get their whole project completed. - the Mets, Yankees, Nationals and Twins all get new places within 4 years the environment will be changed and I could see Cubs ownership willing to build a new place. But on the other side of the coin; as long as Daley is in office, a new Wrigley with even $0 in public money will be unlikely.
