My NLCS collapse memories... Game 6 -- in Chevy Chase, MD. Montgomery County had outlawed smoking a week or 2 before, so I went outside with those smokers around the 7th because it was gorgeous outside. The Cubs were up 3-0, and Prior seemed to be cruising along. I figured it was over. A few minutes later, someone came outside to tell me the fish tied it up. Son of a... I finish my conversation, go inside, check the score, and it's 8-3?!?!?! Oh well, they're not beating Prior AND Wood. Or so I thought. Game 7 -- flying back from Reagan National, have a 2 or 3 hour layover in Minneapolis. I am scurrying all over the place trying to find a TV. I get to Chili's in time to weasel my way into seeing Kerry's blast. I too thought the momentum had shifted and it was all ours. It wasn't long until the crowd overwhelmed me and I had to move. Checking my phone for a score was my only recourse, as every establishment with a TV was too crowded to enter. 7th inning or so is when I had to board the plane. And of course, I could no longer check the score. When we landed in Moline, the pilot welcomed us to Iowa, said the temperature was whatever, "and oh yeah, the Cubs lost again".
