    Clark is one of the very few potentially productive first basemen out there. Hoffpauir and Sing are nowhere near the solution, and I believe everyone within and outside the organization know that. The craptitude with which this team plays is almost making me consider liking a deal for Soriano, keeping Walker at 1B. We need a bat in the middle. Well, we need 2 or 3, but that isn't likely to happen.

    He pitched 167 innings in 2002 and 211 in 2003. If that's overuse, he needs to be dealt elsewhere.

    The absurdity is with the implication that I'm asking anyone to hold off any complaints. I don't care at all who you complain about. I personally do not see a need to rip on something that we all knew was going to be a big weakness going into the season when the regular players are doing so terribly.

    I like him better than Conine or Millar too but for different reasons. I got to see a few really good games out of Nic in Des Moines a few short years ago, and I have been a big fan of his since. It's nice to see him healthy and off to a great start, but he's still got quite a bit of work to do to get ready. His overall body of work at AAA leaves a lot to be desired.

    If you want to get technical, the entire team doesn't suck. There are 4 active position players who have been reasonably productive, and 7 pitchers. But I don't see why it's wrong to point out the bench sucks too. At least with some of the position players, you could reasonably expect an increase from where they are (Ramirez, Pierre). And some of the young pitchers are coming along just fine, not to mention the rehabbers. But there is no hope for the bench, unless a move is made. These are crappy baseball players that are playing crappy baseball. Hendy did a terrible job with the bench this year and some people called him out on it as it happened, only to see their biggest concerns come true (no obp, no power, no RH threat, no potential platoon for the inept Jacque Jones). Um, we're quicker? We can catch the ball? I know we have a small number of players on the roster carrying their load, but the fact remains that this team sucks. Jones sucks, Pierre sucks, Aramis sucks, Neifi sucks, Hairston sucks. Until the everyday players can step up and produce, I see no good reason to point fingers at the bench players. They're supposed to be inferior to the starters.

    That would put him in line to make a 2nd minor-league start somewhere (for Iowa?) on the 12th. Which would turn Principal Park into a zoo again. To make things worse, it rained like crazy the last time he was there. A normal crowd gathering in the concourse would be enough fun; a Kerry Wood rehab crowd gathering in the concourse is madness defined.

    I don't know if we need any more power pitchers. Currently, two of them are living on Medicare benefits and the other is struggling while our two finesse guys are having great years. I am just really getting scared of these guys who throw so hard any more. I guess I'm scarred from Wood and Prior. That's exactly why we need more pitchers.

    Excellent stats Pedro. Keep it up. Not a problem. Here's another: The Cubs are 1-0 on every day where they scored more runs than they allowed the other team to score.

    Well, maybe if put up those numbers in 2002 and 2003 he'd still be in our outfield. I really don't see why Stoney catches so much heat for calling them out. More people should have. They deserved to be told they sucked. I've seen many 90+ loss Cubs teams over the years, but 2004's squad was the most frustrating I've ever seen because of the ways they found to lose. They should have run away with the division that year and made a serious run at a WS title.

    Agreed, Duke was always very well regarded as a prospect. On the other hand, it doesn't excuse our offensive ineptitude, but it's easier to take than getting shut down by someone like Eric Milton. Exactly. I like Duke, I like him a lot. Struggling against him should come as no surprise to anybody. He's going to do that to teams for quite a few years.

    I don't quite agree with you on that point. Marshall has plenty of potential, that's for sure... but Hill is just oozing with it. Unfortunately for Hill, it's all unrealized at the moment... but if he reaches the top of his game, I don't see any way that Marshall isn't left in the dust. At the same time, Marshall has a much better chance of reaching his ceiling than Hill does, even though it is lower. I see Marshall as having a 50% chance of being a "good" major league pitcher. Hill has a 5% chance to be an ace and a 95% bust rate. He had better realize it pretty quickly. He's on the wrong side of his 20's.

    They don't need to worry about restrooms being done. Most of downtown St Louis is already covered with human waste, the new Busch may as well be. IMHO St. Louis has about as many homeless per block as Chicago. You want to talk bad? San Francisco, Atlanta and Portland Oregon. I'm not referring to homeless. St Louis is by far the dirtiest and ugliest "city" (downtown area) I have ever been to. And I've been to my fair share of them.
