  1. He would have trotted out to left and ripped his heart out of his chest with his bare hand. FATALITY! CARLOS WINS! Well done. I was stuck on trying to make a Temple of Doom joke somehow. Come on, I put it on a tee for ya...
  2. Although I'm not sure if any of the responses came from professionals. Very true, and you can't trust the Weather Channel and their pretty pictures either.
  3. The Lugnuts are a Blue Jays affiliate. He was traded for Hinske. Thanks, I just threw up in my mouth a little.
  4. It appears to me as though they're waiting to see if they can get Pena.
  5. Already in Game Threads

  8. I don't think anyone believes that there was a 2/$5M market for Glendon. Lee, Ramirez, and Wood (at the time) were all given contracts that have a fair market value.
  9. You really think there's a good chance? There's teams that are in need of pitching. Rusch's deal is still affordable. Some GM's would look at his 2004-2005 performance and value it more than what he's done this year. I could see Texas as one team that might grab him. The thought of Glendon calling Arlington his home makes me giggle.
  10. He wasn't negotiating against himself? I thought he signed Glendon before Glendon talked to any other teams. so he negotiated against himself for lee too? there was a market for rusch, he just didn't let him test it. market for lee>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>market for rusch Understatement of the year.

  12. Yes that too; I saw that but was only commenting on the possible problem, not the make up afterwards, if there was either. Of course, the original post also said it was Murph who brought it up. It could be just that one of them likes Cool Ranch and the other likes Spicy Nacho.
  13. They were also seen later sitting next to each other in the dugout carrying on a civilized conversation.
  14. You sound like a broken record.[/personal attack]
  15. Maybe Murton punched him in the face for making him chase balls to the wall all afternoon yesterday.
  16. 1. There aren't pinstripes -- that's the gray road uni. 2. I thought Juan Marichal died years ago.
  17. He wasn't negotiating against himself? I thought he signed Glendon before Glendon talked to any other teams. Glendon was re-signed before he filed for FA.
  18. I don't think it's any more than just coincidence. Their day-to-day activities were far less intense than the drills and side work they would have had to complete in camp, so I don't see how they could really be any more spent. I think Zambrano would dial it up if he were pitching in a family wiffle ball game. You aren't getting what I'm saying. You can't balance out more intense work in March games with less intense work in practice. Pitchers succeed due to routine. They come in every February and start to get into enough shape so they can get by on minimal effort in early spring games. This year they went from blah to full bore heart on the sleeve competition in a week. They threw a lot harder in game situations nearly a full month before they normally would. They completely changed their routine, were away from their pitching coaches, and were involved in high stakes games in which there was no room for the type of effort you'd get in most spring games. I get what you're saying, I'm just not buying it. There's no evidence other than a small sample of participants being off to a rocky start. Why are the pitchers the only ones affected by this WBC syndrome? The approach to the tournament was a far cry from what hitters are used to.
  19. you make it seem like the Cubs are handling Peruvian infants. we are talking about millionaires here. the health and future as a human being will not be impacted, only the health and future as a baseball player. I don't care if it's a millionaire or a peasant. You cannot consciously ruin their skills for their trade for selfish reasons.
  20. I've never seen Wood do it or see a report saying that he does it. In fact, I'd be surprised if Prior wasn't the only Cub who does it. And it has received way, way too much attention the past couple of months. Agreed. I thought someone also pointed out once that it was also a USC thing.

  22. of course they would. and the cubs are also going to have a hard time contending w/o lee. but they're also going to have a hard time contending with a black hole in rf, rusch in the rotation, wood on the shelf, and having a complete lack of plate discipline. but the focus will be on lee's injury. just like st. louis would put the focus on pujols being hurt. so you don't like the way they're addressing the starting pitching? if not, what do you prefer? I don't totally buy that they would put the focus on Pujols being out. Last year the were without Rolen, and Larry Walker wasn't 100% either but you didn't see the Cards start making excuses, they just plugged someone in and kept on going. I know that Pujols is much better than Rolen and that they didn't have to make excuses because they won. But that is the whole thing, they have good management who seems to find the right pieces to plug into their lineup and get the job done. We have Dusty "Dude" Baker, and a GM who constructed a roster that had no contigency plan in place should someone go down. They let Scott Seabol play in 59 games last year for crying out loud, and they still won the division.
  23. As hilarious as people blaming him being too calm, or is it too immature? I always forget. What's so hilarious about thinking that guys overthrowing in early March, when they are not ready for big game situations, could have something to do with all the bad starts to the season for WBC pitchers? Where is there evidence of overthrowing?
