  1. Maybe your recovery from surgery to repair your labrum went a little better. you amaze me. you spout your strict parent morality based rhetoric in rants, but when it comes to Kerry Wood, and basically only Kerry Wood, you're suddenly the empathetic nurturing parent. do you care more about the Cubs winning or the future of Kerry Wood? What are you talking about? First of all, I am still recovering from my labrum surgery. I had my surgery about 2 weeks after Wood had his, and I am still building up arm strength. It has been an extremely long process, and I imagine it would be a lot longer if I were an MLB pitcher. It's not as simple as throwing 40 then 50 then 60; the healing does not allow it to work that way. 50 may be just fine one day and 35 might be the max the next. I will cut him slack to a reasonable extent because I know first-hand how difficult of a journey it is for him to get back on the mound. Unless you have been through the experience, who are you to preach how he should or shouldn't be coming back? And to answer your final question, this is a game. I don't care if it's Kerry Wood, Jim Edmonds, or , you do not sacrifice the health and future of a player just for a victory. Period.

  3. Unbelieveable. The guy has had 2 MAJOR injuries, both requiring surgery and a long rehab, and this translates into milking the organization? Give me a break.
  4. re the bolded part above....no you don't. with Prior sure, but not with Wood. his contract expires at the end of the year. get him out there ASAP, get out of him what you can, decline the option. I'm all for painting the impression that the organization considers the best interest of the player, but not here. get him on the mound yesterday. if he blows out his arm again, that's his/his next team's problem. Nice, real nice. I hope you're never in charge of anything anywhere.
  5. The old Zambrano also broke a bat over his knee, but yeah, you're right.
  6. They do have one. His name is Augie.
  7. Man, we didn't even charge to get into our games at my high school. Of course, that would've been impossible considering the way it was laid out, but still, I remember going to districts and knowing it was a big deal cause people had to pay to see us. My parents have had the same season tickets since I was in fifth grade. As people next to us have moved or changed seats, my mom and dad have bought up the extras. We now have eight seats on the same row about even with the 40 yard line. These will come in handy in about four years when my nephew starts playing. Tell your parents they're getting ripped off. I've never paid to attend a HS game.
  8. http://www.sportspool.com/football/super_bowl/Superbowl_XXXVII_ring.jpg Fear Chris Simms. Or something. http://www.buckleshop.com/images/sfb070l.jpg Yeah, right.
  9. At first I read this to mean that Rusch was DFA. Then, I woke up.
  10. I never liked the Beatles for some odd reason. I was always fan of McCartney, and I loved Lennon. I picked the Stones because Mick and Keith are each 153 years old and still going.
  11. They should get some corners. Huh? Oh, they already have 17 of them?
  12. So, I sit around anxiously waiting to find out where my buddies Greenway and Hodge will end up, hoping one of them will somehow miraculously end up in Indy with Bob Sanders. Now, it should be known that while I am a Falcons fan, I grew up in a Bears home. There are 2 teams in the NFL that I flat-out hate: Vikings and Packers. Where to Greenway and Hodge go? Cubs suck.
  13. Bill hall just hit one to... well, it hasn't landed yet.
  14. Cubs fans crack me up. Z has stunk this year. Maybe he's been average at this, above average here, below average there -- but he's been sub-par for himself up to this point. If you can't see that he has been disappointing so far this season, you are not watching him.
  15. I don't buy the notion of inept ownership. They are there trying to maximize their profits. Greedy may be a word, destined for solvency is probably more accurate. They skimp everywhere because, aside from revenue sharing, they don't have a great stream of income. Maybe their management teams are inept, but that may also be a result of getting what they pay for.
  16. Grilled chicken breast sandwich, homemade fries. I drank a few too many beers at this company function I had to go to last night, so I was cooking just about everything we had when I got home.
  17. Wuertz is a little above average. A little. Until he can figure out how to get people out consistently, it makes no difference how many people swing and miss. He's already 27 and can't stick around for a full season. He really doesn't have a whole lot of time until his skills start declining and batters make more contact. Then what?
  18. It would be hard to replace Wuertz's stuff, but Clark of 03-04 would be pretty damn replacable. I really don't like our odds of coming out ahead on a trade like that. You value Wuertz far more than I do. I don't see him as anything more than an averageish reliever, which certainly has value on the right team, but to the Cubs he's pretty worthless. I think many on this board over-value Wuertz.
