  1. Exactly. No point in rushing him back. This season is already in the toilet. He should take his time coming back. No, no, you're wrong! Lee comes back, and Pierre will magically become a great leadoff hitter, everyone will get hits with RISP, Kerry Wood will be cured, Mark Prior will regain his old form, and we'll make the playoffs! Model airplane glue is a wonderful thing.
  2. Giambi: 458 Jeter: 435 Posada: 420 ARod: 398 Melky: 375 Damon: 370
  3. Lance Broadway. Chest Rockwell. Say it in that deep, puffed-out chest kind of voice and tell me I'm crazy.
  4. Ah, the silver lining. And she did beat the throw and eventually score, so she's got that going for her too.
  5. Wait a minute, I just realized everyone's talking about Kerry like he died. From what I've heard on the radio, he's not likely to go on the DL and missing his next start is only a "possibility". It's been a few hours, have I missed something?
  6. Not to be a jerk ripping on 4yo's or anything, but even if she'd "gotten a hold of one", wouldn't have still been probably a groundout to an infielder? Or am I underestimating the pop of a 4 year old? I'm just sayin'. This girl happened to just get his whole swing down, and the ball she hit was hit rather weakly compared to a lot of the others. And with the extremely poor defensive play, some balls actually sneak through to the grass. Now I'm the jerk ripping on 4 year olds. Thanks!
  7. Isn't that about the most stupidly hypocritcal rule ever? Hey, your coach and the Universtiy can make millions from but you better not. Absolutely. A Salomon bindings endorsement deal has what bearing on an amateur football player?
  8. I'm with you completely. I really wanted to see the old Kerry come back. He was a huge part of what really got me to my full Cubs obsession level that I'm at today. Kingman and Buckner sucked me in. Sandberg put the final nail in the coffin. Them sons a...
  9. His swing is really ugly. He doesn't even try to hit the ball so much as he flips the bat at it. His hitting fundamentals are consistently poor. When h does keep his shoulders and head on target with his hands back he does a nice job of hitting line drives the other way. Problem is he does it only 10-15% of the time. I was thinking of that last night watching the 4 year old team my daughter is on. One kid came up and was just completely lost -- didn't know where to stand, how to hold the bat, helmet was over her eyes, etc. When they finally got her set, and I swear on my life, her swing reminded me of Juan Pierre. She was lunging backwards and making a feeble stab at the ball. Result? Soft grounder toward the pitcher's mound. She's 4, I expect that from her.
  10. I'm not ready to proclaim that Izzy is done (I tried that with Clemens a few years ago), but he doesn't look to be an effective reliever at all. Sure, he's got 18 saves, but that WHIP is too close to 2.
  11. Finally found it -- Jeremy Bloom, mogul skier and Colorado football player. Link
  12. Struggling with control is part of the struggles of a young pitcher. It's not worth the argument because you haven't made a lick of sense if you insistence that Rusch is the only option. Again, if we had a pitcher in the Minors that is clearly ready for the show then by all means bring him up! But we don't and here we are... But you're advocating giving Rusch another shot -- the same shot he's failed at for 9 years. They're all higher ceiling pitchers than Fat Glen and almost all will perform the same or better if given the chance. Difference is, they are going to get better. Glendon is wasting a roster spot.
  13. Sounds familiar -- Lee goes down, ERA skyrockets. Then again, with that list of "talent" it was bound to happen.
  14. Go to the Smoking Gun site (link above) and you can see the whole report. There are a lot of names blacked out, but it looks like the same names could be repeated quite a bit, so who knows how many unique names there are. Hmm, there certainly doesn't look to be over 100 names there. Then again, I believe it was Boers or Bernstein that made the 100+ comment.
  15. From what I have heard, there are over 100 names blacked out in the report (I haven't actually seen it). I'm sure there are some big names there.
  16. Gooooz/Marmol/Ryu giving up 6 runs in 4 innings >>>>> Rusch giving up 6 runs in 4 innings Chances are, they're going to improve after doing it.
  17. If that happens, I honestly believe he would wind up dead in a hotel room somewhere. We're talking about baseball players, not tough guys. This isn't the mob. Are they really that dissimilar?
  18. He drives from Chi->Mil every game day? .... He can speed. He's Carlos Lee.
  19. If that happens, I honestly believe he would wind up dead in a hotel room somewhere.
  20. I think it's really bad for the game now, but terrific for the future of MLB.
  21. I know there's some takers among you guys... Kiley's way off there. You wouldn't need any athletic background whatsoever.
  22. Because Lee set his own goals a bit too high, and a lot of people believed his estimates rather than the trainers/doctors estimates. Exactly, and now people are actually surprised when he says he doesn't have the mobility.
  23. I don't think he's worth it. That's an awful lot of money for an 830 OPS guy with below average defense. Plus, he'll be 30 in a couple of weeks so any long-term deal becomes a much bigger risk.
