  1. Space was tight in the paper for today, but Dusty lamented a number of "questionable calls" on Pierre's attempted steals and that catchers have been throwing it "right on the toe" to nab Pierre. Yes, Dusty. That's why those catchers are in the big leagues.
  2. How do you explain hatred of other teams? Most people that were Yankee haters hated the Yankees before their payroll exceeded 100M or did not have the highest payroll in the league. Their spending sprees over the past decade have just added fuel to the fire. It wouldn't bother me a bit if the Cubs "bought" a WS instead of going through a season of playing mediocre rookies.
  3. Neifi Perez as a Cub in 2004: 371/400/548/948 Give them time.
  4. If they're going to suck, we may as well have fun with them.
  5. You beat me to it. If my count is correct, Iowa has 7 from NJ on this year's roster.
  6. That Verlander kid in Detroit's pretty good too.
  7. The part that's actually hitting 276 with an OBP barely over 300.
  8. God I hope you're kidding.... Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, Back To School, Ghost Busters, Groundhogs Day, Va-freaking-cation. The guys been involved with some of the greatest movies ever made. QFT
  9. Where did Harry go to college? Oh yeah... http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c263/mgoedken/hawks.gif Harry's one of the greats.
  10. How about a little help for those of us without insider? It's free if you subscribe to ESPN The Magazine. Babe Ruth-Lou Gehrig Mickey Cochrane-Al Simmons Eddie Mathews-Henry Aaron Roger Maris-Mickey Mantle Vada Pinson-Frank Robinson Tony Oliva-Harmon Killebrew Roberto Clemente-Willie Stargell Cal Ripken-Eddie Murray Barry Bonds-Jeff Kent
  11. Several other teams were interested in him, and we didn't sign him until late January (that's hardly being all over him). He was expected to be ready in May, and I see nothing wrong with taking the gamble. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2303134
  12. Then why give any response?
  13. I don't remember it that way, at all. Yeah, that isn't anywhere close to the truth. I think most people would rather have signed Lofton and gotten basicall the exact same production. It would have only cost us a lot less. I wanted Lofton.
  14. I never understood the fascination with Hairston when we got him other than many absolutely hated Perez. That isn't a reason to want to play him over Perez. They both sucked and they both still suck. It's like choosing mono over chicken pox. I'm glad they're both gone. We never should've acquired either one in the first place. Who was fascinated?
  15. But he did have those months. In seven seasons, Pierre has had TWO seasons in which he posted a better than 370 OBP. He's not likely to do that again. This year his OBP is 330. It was 326 last season. His career OBP is 351. A few hot months does not erase his entire career. If you want a lead-off hitter with a better than 350 OBP, you shouldn't look to Pierre. He's not likely to best that mark. There really isnt anybody else out there. Who would you suggest? There are currently 89 qualified major leaguers with an OBP at 350 or better this season. It shouldn't be too terribly hard to find one.
  16. If? If Hendry would have signed Vlad, Tejada...
  17. I'll take the Don. Gallagher a close 2nd.
  18. When do World Series tickets go on sale? \:D/
  19. Of course it looks like someone is going to get moved -- 2 people already were (Neifi, Marmol).
  20. I'm glad Wilken is running the drafts now. The have been really burned on some of these high school players. Luis Montanaz, wasn't he the 4th or 5th overall pick? I don't even wanna know who they passed on that year. 2000 wasn't a strong draft but the notable players that were selected after Montanez were: Rocco Baldelli, Chase Utley, Adrian Gonzalez, Boof Bonser, Aaron Heilman, Xavier Nady, Grady Sizemore and Cliff Lee. Fast Freddie Bynum went in round 2.
  21. Why in the world is he still employed? DFA already.
  22. What's unbelievable is that Rusch actually got a couple of people out.
  23. Well, so much for a solid showing to get teams interested.
