  1. Ozzie never had it.
  2. I hope Arizona is eating part of the deal...otherwise I wouldn't call picking up a guy with a 10+ mil contract who is slugging .429 a "solid move"
  3. How does that get scored for his OBP? Error on the catcher.
  4. Jacque should try hitting the catcher's glove more often.
  5. Sad thing is, he's the only position player we have that is among the league leaders in anything.
  6. How is the trade so dumb if neither guy actually did anything?
  7. It didn't appear to me that Neyer was advocating Dusty's inclusion in the Hall, he was just mentioning that he could be a candidate someday based on his overall contribution to the game as a player and manager.
  8. Great. Now Hendry will over pay for one or the other... Hendry actually has a very good relationship with Boras.
  9. What the hell does that mean? Anyone who uses race is a racist by definition, whether or not they're sending hate mail or celebrating one's accomplishments. What's the difference between "you suck, " or "that is actually pretty good"? I don't think that's what cubfan1955 was saying. I understood him to say that "true racists" hate certain groups and will hate them even when they're doing well. Whether they use racial slurs to speak negatively or positively about someone wasn't the distinction. The distinction was whether the subject of their hatred was good or bad at his job. Apparently "true racists" voice their racism at all times, whereas racists who aren't "true racists" only voice their racism when a player isn't doing well and possibly even cheer when the subject is performing well. That doesn't make any sense. Are we now measuring degrees of racism?
  10. And Izturis is very similarly OBP challenged. It's not ridiculous, it's quite accurate. Yes but that's not all of my arguement. Please respond to the rest. How many DP has Izturis grounded into this year, how many per year? How often do you see him swinging away when the runner infront of him gets a stellar jump? How many pitches per plate appearance? He sucks offensively right now yes. Is he Neifi? God no. Can you answer those questions?
  11. If I were a journeyman player at the tail end of my career I would hollow out my bat and fill it with steroids. Getting caught would be an awesomely cool way to end an otherwise lackluster career. That would make him a first ballot HOFer, right Colin?.
  12. Every team has fans that are prejudiced.

  14. He could also be on his way to an average OBP of .330. What he had in '04 and in '05 until he got injured. I'll take the wait and see approach, and judge him at the end of '07. Or atleast until mid '07 before I start jumping on his case calling him "young neifi". It's ridiculous. Wait and see, and you'll get more of the same. He was at 302 with the Dodgers and 292 with the Cubs (now below 300 for the season). That is not on his way to 330. There is absolutely nothing about his career that suggests we're destined to see a dramatic increase in the numbers we are seeing from him. 330 appears to be the exception, not the expected. I cannot believe that you think it's ridiculous that people are grounded in thinking that Cesar is not due to become a good offensive player.
  15. People used to say that about the Big 10 with just Michigan and Ohio State. Once they added Penn State the dynamic changed. That's not entirely true. Michigan and OSU were the cream of the crop, several more were consistently solid. Northwestern just plain sucked. Who? Michigan St and Purdue were just 500 type teams and once in blue moon one of the other teams would have a good year. Northwestern was always horrible. I don't think the BE is that great of a conference but they only have 8 teams not 11 or 12 like every other power conference. If we actually got out of the basketball thing and added 4 teams I think it would be just as good or better than any in the country. That depends on how far you want to go back, I guess. Before PSU joined, Iowa was also a team that was regulary ranked (peaked at #1) and a bowl team consistently throughout the 80s. MSU had some really good teams, Illinois put together a few good seasons, and even Indiana had a few winning records.

  17. He won a Gold Glove. And somehow he produces RBI's with that gold glove. :?: Not hard to do when you hit 350 with that glove.
  18. Izturis's OBP is at 302 right now and would be 20th if he had enough PAs to qualify, trailing the likes of Jack Wilson and Royce Clayton. That's not an average OBP for a SS. The only thing stopping Izturis from joining Neifi as one of the worst players is time. He's well on his way there.
