  1. uh oh youre going to be really pissed off when you start noticing hes really good out there in CF "really" good is probably overstating it. he often takes terrible routes to balls and has to use his athleticism to make up for it. I have no doubts he'll improve as he spends more time out there, but as of right now his arm is the only thing really good about his defense
  2. agreed. I'd love to see him employed by the Brewers for a long, long time
  3. I absolutely wouldn't mind an alternative system to calling balls and strikes because that's the single most varied human aspect of the game. zones often change dramatically from day to day, inning to inning, and batter to batter. that said, the relative infrequency with which bad calls are made on routine plays doesn't leave me clamoring for a computer to decide a close play. I'm sure studies would show the correct call is made by an overwhelming majority. bad calls tend to even out over the course of a game and season. I do agree that something should be done about the umpires who act as though they're bigger than the game. the ump who is quick to remove his mask and follow a hitter to the dugout is an unwelcome part of the game. the same could also be said about the players who act in the same manner. the art of civil disagreement has been lost in the Robby Alomars, Milton Bradleys, Delmon Youngs et al of the world. both sides are quick to escalate, and it's one facet of the game I would like to see addressed by the unions.
  4. I finally saw WALL-E today so I can cast my vote. I went with Nemo but it was hard to say no to Monsters, Inc. WALL-E would probably be my #3
  5. I use the television and watch them on CSN
  6. I'll give him that one. He deserves it after his all-star performance. I wonder if Uggla bought him a round for that one play? he should have bought him a boat
  7. Who? Jon Lieber, relief pitcher- Chicago Cubs oh yeah, the effective reliever who gets to pitch once a week if he's lucky He definitely doesn't pitch much with Lou's love to only use Howry, Marmol, and Wood. The couple of times I've seen him pitch he really hasn't looked good to me. I wonder if he's a candidate to be moved soon. he's been pretty effective as a reliever. WHIP around 1.24, ERA of 2.53 K:BB around 5:1. he's only walked 5 (3 were intentional) in 42.6 IP
  8. last I heard was he would be available in this series

  10. originally Strawberry Point
  11. all the riff-raff lives in Delaware County, the yokels live in Clayton County I prefer to think of you Delaware County folk as a yokel-riff raff hybrid. I try to generalize as much as possible. I never lived in Delaware County though. drank a few thousand beers there but never called it home
  12. Jose Oquendo? I really didn't think anyone would get it
  13. all the riff-raff lives in Delaware County, the yokels live in Clayton County
  14. Isn't that a pretty big qualification? Burnett's k/9 is almost double what Blanton's is. He also has an edge in k/bb, OPS against and gb/fb. but aside from all the things that are different, they're pretty much the same
  15. my sister drives a maroon Mystique. she got a flat on I-80 last week and guess who she called to change her tire? no really, guess
  16. I'm in North Liberty but grew up in that area. most of my family went/goes to Starmont and I have several relatives that are good friends of his. I played softball against him and his dad for a few years as well, but I haven't seen either in probably 3 years had many a friend in the strawberry area his mom used to work with me in manchester, the family on both sides definitely has baseball blood in cedar falls now, did you go to starmont? sure did, class of 92 This explains a lot it sure does
  17. Joe is the original grumpy old man
