  1. That team is what made him a "star". If he were on the Reds teams of late, he'd be just another schmo.
  2. If he had shown a little more power (400 HR), I would think he'd already be there. As it is, I don't think it's quite enough.
  3. I don't think what he did, impressive as it was, is nearly enough. Of course, there's the Yankee factor. Still, I vote no.
  4. I think Manny feels like NYC is the place to be but not the Mets. If the Sox will trade him to the Yankees, we ought to be able to have our way with their entire system for next to nothing.
  5. But he is 63 years old...
  6. See, this is the kind of stuff we're used to seeing from Hendry, except for those times when he felt it was absolutely imperative to unload someone. This one would not make me lose any sleep whatsoever.
  7. In Crasnick's book, Liscence to Deal, Boras says he never wants to be in ownership and rips agents who have switched over. In his mind that's betraying the very people who he's been working for. I'm sure he'd be losing a boat load of money by taking such a job, and that appears to be #1 in his book. Still, now that I have started thinking about it, I do think he would make a darn fine GM or Prez for any organization. The same man who has gotten so many teams to bid against themselves suddenly trying to squeeze blood from a turnip. Sounds like a winner to me.
  8. Domestic for both until my wife's uncle started bringing me Molson. This ain't the Molson you can get in stores -- his neighbor is from Canada and brings the good stuff to him. Take off, eh, Canuck beer is the best.
  9. That 91 WS game is still one of the most impressive individual game performances I have ever seen from a pitcher, but that is nowhere near enough to get him in. Nope.
  10. Mediocre? Nah. Ugly as all get out? Yep. I guess that's what happens when you get eleventy runs of support a game.
  11. I would have liked him INSTEAD of Pierre. Hes a better fielder, a better base stealer, sees more pitches, would be under our control for 3 more years, is much much cheaper and, is more versatile so can be moved when pie is ready. Not to mention he wouldn't have cost us anything more interms of prospects than pierre. Plus, the angels are a much much better team with Erstad in CF, Kotchman at 1b and McPherson/Quinlan platoon at 3rd. Don't say that loud enough for CPatterson20 to hear ya'. He just started up the Missourah chapter of the Juan P fan club I think...
  12. Figgins is a switch hitter that can play 17 different positions, runs the 40 in 2.7, will be 23 for the rest of his life, and has a lifetime OBP of 950. Seriously though, he plays many different positions, puts up better than average OBP numbers from the left and right side of the plate, and is DIRT CHEAP. Figgins >> Pierre
  13. Wouldn't it be pretty darn sweet if we hear "the Cubs have just traded for Miguel Tejada" and it included a bunch of people that made all of us say "WHO???". I doubt it, but I did have a similar reaction to the Nomar deal. I knew who the players were, I just couldn't believe that's all it took to get Nomar AND Murton. I'm still holding onto that ray of sunshine that Hendry has been able to produce on occasion. He has a history of making the big trade while giving up little in return, and I just refuse to believe he will do something incredibly stupid now. And maybe I've been drinking too much tonight.
  14. I don't think I'd give up Pie for him unless someone like Vlad was coming too. What, anything's possible, isn't it? Anywho, I've liked Chone since I first saw him.
  15. Wouldn't it be worthwhile for a big market team (Cubs, for example) to hire Boras as their GM or Prez to save millions, if not billions, down the road (a la Moorad)? It seems to me that as shrewd as he is as an agent, he would be even stingier as a GM/Prez. The man definitely knows talent and what it's worth.
  16. Yeah, I totally loved thirtysomething... Edit: Wow, that picture really highlights exactly how ugly he is...
  17. Show me the last pitcher who had a mediocre season and won 20 games. Pitching very well is a pre-req for winning 20 games. Russ Ortiz in 2003. Damnit, ok show me the last one before him. Same year, Andy Pettitte
  18. I don't think so. The only appearance was as a late-inning defensive replacement. He was never credited with a plate appearance that I can find.
  19. I'm hoping, deep down inside, that this is the reason nothing has been done. I'm thinking maybe Hendry doesn't want to part with Prior and is trying to get Zito involved in going to the O's. The only holdup is that they want us to part with Guzman+Hill+Pie+probably another arm, and Jimmy don't want to do it. Is that being overly optimistic or just plain stupid?
  20. McGuire+Hill+Sosa+Neifi for Tejada. I'd even let them keep Bedard and pay all of Tejada's salary...
  21. I've been pondering this, and I think I have finally come to a decision. As much as I would love to pick Big Z, the quote from above is the reason why. Boras is his agent. So, it pains me to pick someone else from the NL, but I will go with Miguel Cabrera. I haven't seen him play 3B yet, but my good God, that kid can flat-out mash a ball. To put up these numbers at Pro Player at the age of 22 absolutely blows my mind: 302/379/488/867 (341/391/625/1.016 on the road  )
  22. - Looking to the future (odd, considering he may be willing to part with Prior) - He is not shopping players - Murton and Cedeno integral parts, will be regular players - "I don't know if any trades are going to be made by us the rest of the winter" - Does not want to part with Pie - Cedeno's name has been brought up in every trade conversation since last July - Mentioned Jones, Pierre, Murton, Cedeno as 4 new players out of 8 on the field (is Walker staying and starting or am I reading too much into this statement?) - Nothing to put Prior rumors to bed  - Doesn't feel any deals are imminient It almost sounded like a pre-emptive plea to the players that when/if someone is dealt, that it was in his perception of what was in the best interest of the team.
