  1. If people were that hard up for violence wouldn't they be watching hockey, which is faster and bloodier? No cheerleaders. Seriously, there are guys, esp at the top of the NFL target age, for whom cheerleaders are still a big deal. These guys grew up when naked women were not a simple GIS away. No cheerleaders aren't the primary reason for the NFL's popularity, but time of the week, time of the year, and violence are very very much so. And cheerleaders fit very nicely with that mix.
  2. Agreed. I don't agree with the entire post, but I think the NFL is a crappy product and not bc of whether Bradshaw should take a knee. It happens to be played on the weekends during the winter, and includes violence and often cheerleaders. It's popularity isn't tied directly to the quality of the product on the field.
  3. You guys can't read.
  4. Oh come on.
  5. 60, 54, 54 the last 3 days. Average high for early Feb: 38. Hey if global warming keeps this up, we can have the SB in the north every year!
  6. That's a lot of summary info and conclusions without much info. 1.9 was the average. Ok, but that doesn't say much and has little predictive value for Garza. Who were the guys. How many of them went from toughest division to the NLC (an NLC without prince and pujols now). What did they do in Y2? Bounce back a bit, a lot, plateau, collapse? Did the increase in breaking balls actually result in injury as you suggest? Did they change the % again in Y2? Etc, etc, etc.
  7. "Don't like" is the wrong term. I like it just fine. Just not at the cost (in dollars, of a market-price extension) and the opportunity cost (compared to what we could get in a trade). He's exiting his prime years, he's never had a season like the one he just had, and he's suddenly relying on a ton of breaking stuff. Classic sell high candidate. He also moved from the ALE to the NLC. This may well be the standard going forward. And it's not as if he's a good candidate to fall off a cliff upon turning 30. There's little risk to finding out if the Tigers won't give up the sort of package we've discussed in this thread.
  8. What's wrong with paying for a stud pitcher's 30-34 seasons? Are we afraid he's going to eat himself into Sidney Ponson?
  9. Shephard and Ferguson will probably need to play pretty early on. And we lost Greenberry. To [expletive] Houston. What a stark contrast the close of last season was to the close of this one. If only we could combine Weis' ability to land offensive talent with BK's ability to land defensive talent. Didn't see that. Kelly did say he can coach offense, but he needs athletes for defense. It's showed in his first two classes. Next year's class will be more important, given the number of scholarships. I was glad they didn't fill out this class so they would have more scholarships for next season. But 16/17 this year is too low. It's days like this that I can sympathize with Saban signing 35 recruits every year.

  11. Strike that...reverse it.
  12. No Poole, Neal won't decide for a couple of weeks. At this point, any surprises are more likely good than bad. Just get the WC kids signed and call it a day. Love the high end talent in this class.
  13. Seems like ND is probably done, though they're in on Neal and there's an outside chance, though very small, that Poole's parents convince him that UF is a terrible move. Would have been great to keep Darby or have him drop when there was more time to get Rios in early, but so it goes. Just hope for no bad surprises tomorrow.
  14. It's almost as if there isn't a misc FA thread for all this BS.
  15. We won the WS of Mark DeRosa trades though
  16. Whose scholarship did Banner take?
  17. Davonte Neal's dad called the un-home with Meyer "intense" as Meyer kept pushing for a commitment. I'm not sure "intense" is the word coaches shoot for from parents.
  18. And didn't a recruit that got gray shirted say Saban got him a job for the fall. How are these not violations?
  19. Who is "they" in that sentence? I'm not sure but the hold up was the medical clearance by ND's staff. I don't know how much lead time they had (I think days, if not hours, as Armond only arrived at ND the Sunday before classes started). Didn't USC not clear him medically either? I wonder if there's something way more serious going on with him. Yes and that's why he's transferring. I don't know if ND eventually cleared him. But they couldn't get the process done in 24 hours. Got it. Can't really blame ND for that then. I don't. It's just unfortunate that it probably cost them both players.

  22. GregBiggins: Another interesting thing Gus (Armstead) said, if they could have gotten the waiver and paperwork filed on time, both boys would be at ND right now Now there's a swift kick to the groin.
  23. Not if some random guy says Cespedes to Cubs, but if there's somebody who at least passes it off as somewhat credible, IE Cespedes to Cubs on 7/42 deal as reported by WGN 720, I'll tend to entertain it to some degree. There was a lot of that type of thing on the Darvish posting night. If you want breaking news as soon as it breaks, you have to accept some rumor and unconfirmed reports. It's a race to be first, with being right most of the time considered good enough. If you only want news that's 100% absolutely confirmed, you're going to have to wait until it's posted in an article typically on a couple of mainstream sources. You can't really have both.
  24. Oh yeah, that was all of time until about 30 years ago.
  25. Yeah like there's a women's lawyers group. And there's a minority lawyers group. And there's an Asian American lawyers group. Where the f is the white boy lawyers group?
