  1. thanks. as usual, your opinion means the world to me. do the opinions of people on this board matter to you? because you've compared my using a curse word that you hear in tons of movies, songs and walking down the street just about every day (and which is filtered into [expletive] on this site), with someone who repeatedly mocks the recently deceased. i can only assume that you didn't earn your law degree by being an abject moron, so i'll chalk this up to intellectual dishonesty. The opinions of some people on the board matter to me. If you don't like mbc's post about Paterno and other public figures, put him on ignore. We're not going to require that every post about Paterno meet your approval. You can chalk this up to my disagreeing with you, so you resorting to whining about me being a mod and taking shots at me. I'm neither a moron nor intellectually dishonest. As far as I know, neither are all the other people that disagree with you on this topic.
  2. People are going to feel differently about his passing. No one is preventing others from paying respects. This isn't a wake; nsbb isn't a safe haven for paying respects. Both views on Paterno can be expressed without attacking people that feel differently. If posters can't do that, don't post (or accept the warning or suspension that follows).
  3. He did? He went to the AD, which is not the same as going to the police. How a "good man" could live with himself knowing what he was allowing to continue, I have no idea. He went to the campus police, which actually has more power than most college campus police corps. And Sandusky had been off his staff for three years at that point. He wasn't keeping tabs on him to know if he was on campus or not. Were people not actually paying attention to this story or just believing what ESPN told them to believe? As Derwood said, you can feel how you want about it, but don't wish ill on a man who just passed away. He wasn't a child rapist. If you truly mean that people can feel how they want, then you have to accept that they may wish ill on him. a lot of people hold him responsible for harm to children because he failed to do more to prevent it. you may disagree, but you can't tell them that they can't express those feelings.
  4. thanks. as usual, your opinion means the world to me.
  5. Most human being find the word [expletive] to be offensive. yet people, like you, use it repeatedly on a message board. how embarrassing for you.
  6. I get why it would bother you that mbc made fun of someone you hold in such high regard. clearly based on your posts on this topic, you think very highly of joepa, despite what's come out about him in the last several months. fine, whatever. What I don't get is why you care if he mocks recently deceased people, generally. even assuming what you've poste about his moderation history is actually true, how does that change anything? you get this worked up about every warning that's issued? this isn't kindergarten - there's no reason to whine that someone else was being mean to other people.
  7. Months later, this quote still applies for me. I think it will hit me during the season when the team is surprisingly good on the field and everyone's all "zomg the Cubs are gonna be blah blah blah before you know it!" you are going to be pretty behind the curve if it doesn't hit you that this is our front office until 2014 IF ONLY THEY'D SIGNED PLAYERS THAT DIDN'T WANT TO SIGN WITH THE CUBS
  8. no, your question was "really?" because you were insinuating that my explanation was not serious, and you were wrong. i accept your apology. No. My question was really...why do you [expletive] care if mbc mocks paterno or anyone else.
  9. and my question is why the [expletive] do you care?
  10. Let it go. If you can't understand it as clearly as TT has laid it out for you, you'll never get it. So just walk away.
  11. The scandal quickly got dwarfed by their neighbors to the East. OSU is such a perfect fit for urbie. Hope his health doesn't force him to quit next year.
  12. Maybe it's a pro-PEDs ad.
  13. This is America. You don't go to prison for 5 years for something petty like rape. You've gotta get caught with DRUGS to do any real time. The problem with the justice system in regards to more serious crimes like rape and murder as opposed to drug possession and petty theft is that it's a lot easier to prove the latter, thus those types of offenders are more likely to serve time. I assure you that a convicted rapist will serve more time than someone getting caught with a dime bag or even caught with a trunk full of cocaine. That is just absolutely not true, man. Are you aware that they hand out LIFE sentences for like... a few kilos of cocaine? I personally know someone who was arrested with 280 hits of LSD before they were even old enough to drink, and they will be an old man when they get out of prison. It was of course a class X felony. Meanwhile, convicted rapists ROUTINELY get out of prison in less than 5 years. Just check your local sex offender database. I am sure that you will find plenty that are out on probation or parole after serving only a few years. Even child sex offenders don't get any serious time. Our country is a MESS. I'm sure there's a politics thread somewhere if you want to talk about this.
  14. did i read that wisconsin has lost 6 coaches? guh.
  15. It's fine to have these things bouncing around your head. If they come together and can be expressed as a coherent thought or question, go ahead and post that. But just posting pure stream of consciousness isn't particularly helpful.
  16. Love this hire. Shake down the...Hayden Fry coaching tree for all its fruit. Not sure how the DB responsibilities will be divided as Cooks is also back there. He may move back to LB coach though.
  17. Coach Kelly, yeah this is MR. That job I needed done in OK? Put it on hold for a minute...he may have turned it around.
  18. I've heard Auburn may be in play, though it's unclear what exception would apply (he had a medical redshirt, so he technically could apply for a 6th year in 2013). Maybe that's what his hearing was about last week. Seems Auburn must thing they can take him if he was visiting there this weekend. But I've heard he told Arik he'll play his last year at whatever school Arik chooses, which now will no longer be Cal. Proabably a 2-horse race with ND and Auburn.
  19. He was a pretty good play-caller at KU. Our offenses put up big numbers when he was there. btw - I'm hearing weis is expecting other 5-years to join KU after May graduation. does that story have legs. There are 1-2 ND guys that are eligible for 5th years that Kelly won't take b/c they won't be on the 2-deep, including a solid nose tackle, that are rumored to be considering re-joining Weis. That's what he said in the press conference today. He said he was going to be signing other 5 year guys after May. He was pretty explicit about it. Benchwarmers from ND are still going to be better than whatever we have. I hope he snags them. The name I've heard is Cwynar (former 4-star DT from IL). He was playing this year, but he's been passed by the stud freshmen/sophomores. I actually expected one of the 5-year WRs to join Weis, esp Walker (another 4-star, but he fell out of favor with Kelly and hasn't sniffed game time), but I haven't heard his name floating about.

  21. He was a pretty good play-caller at KU. Our offenses put up big numbers when he was there. which is why I and other ND fans were so excited to have him. I understand leaving b/c he got passed over for the OC gig and I think that's what he's after. Just funny that the story when he left was he wanted to call plays and he's not getting that role. Guess he had the last laugh by taking a recruit with him.
  22. I have trouble believing the bolded section. I don't care how mad you are at the coach, you wouldn't give up everything you've worked for to prove a point. and there's no way to prove that anyway. rumors were this played into kiel's decision, but now it sounds like it was all his parents. He never got on the plane to BR this weekend and instead drove to ND with his folks today.
  23. USA Today is reporting that. He's an early enrollee, so he can't really change his mind once in classes, which start tomorrow at ND. Pretty slick by Kelly if true. I bet he doesn't stay more than a year. Kid seems like a total flake. Sounds like mama told him not to come (to lsu): http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/story/2012-01-16/gunner-kiel-leaves-lsu-will-join-notre-dame/52607324/1
