i really have to think that mlb was completely blindsided by this "taking the sample home and putting it in your fridge is unacceptable" argument. or the arbiter was a complete moron (very possible!), but you would think that presenting information on how this is standard operating procedure in this and other industries that do this sort of testing would be enough to stifle the argument. hopefully mlb just had no idea this was going to be something they had to discuss and was unprepared to talk about it. if that's not the case and the arbiter threw out the suspension in spite of the fact that mlb cogently argued that everyone involved did exactly what they were supposed to, that's a lot more frightening. Yeah either they were blindsided or this will be the seminal decision that will mean all future testing will be done early enough to get the samples to FedEx. It's really sort of scary that the guy followed protocol and they threw out the results.
So Braun's defense was to tarnish the reputation of an innocent man? Braun, in his douchey press conference, said he tried to handle the matter with class, professionalism and about 2 dozens adjectives in the same vein. I'd say he failed pretty [expletive] miserably.
So if you run a sub-4.4 in the 40, then you're more likely to be fast in other football activities, but not faster at, say, the 20-yard shuttle than a "slow" runner is?
Browns, Redskins, Dolphins...what's the best landing place for RGIII? http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2012/story/_/id/7622088/2012-nfl-draft-st-louis-rams-decide-trade-no-2-overall-pick-sources-say
Truffle summarized the trades in another post in the draft pick trade thread. I didn't include that post but does Tim need the order with trades included?
If we can get everyone to sign on an earlier date, I'm all for it. I'm actually better off this week than next. We're not picking 1 date though, right? We're just going to make picks here? Truffle has already said who he's picking first. Why not just start the draft now?
B/c Soler is different than Rendon. He's a FA. But we have no way to account for IFAs that are likely to be in the minors. So if some team thinks it's worth drafting Soler and keeping him on the bench in the majors all year, then so be it. I don't think we'll have too many instances of guys drafting obviously IFA prospects in the ML draft. But it gives teams the option of taking a shot at a guy like Cespedes in the ML draft while having a penalty (must keep them on the ML bench) that isn't insanely harsh (lose the player altogether). It's a 1-size fits all rule that makes sense, imo.
I always thought it was hilarious when some analysts would cite RG3's speed and mobility as a reason to take him over Luck, basically implying that Luck was Peyton Manning. I've never heard anyone that knows what they are talking about question Luck's athletic ability. Honestly, he reminds me of Peyton Manning's brain on Rich Gannon's body. Gannon was one of the best athletes to ever play QB at a high level. Probably only behind Steve Young and Randall Cunningham. You think Luck is a combination of one of the smartest QBs ever with one of the most athletic QBs ever? That isn't meant to sound snarky. I have no idea. That's just pretty lofty praise.
They should all be in the ML draft so someone can decide if they're worth the risk that they start the year in the minors. It's one exception this year but likely more in future years.
These aren't major issues. Any IFA that isn't drafted in the ML draft is eligible in the prospect draft. Everyone expects Soler to be signed soon, so he should be available like the rest. #3 is a big reason for my proposal. You have to stash him on your bench as long as he's in the minors. It prevents people from taking guys like Soler in the ML draft. But it allows each team to decide what level of risk they're comfortable with for guys like Cespedes who will probably start in the minors. I don't like abuck's plan as it allows people to draft a guy in the ML draft when he could spend most of the year in the minors and there's no risk to the team that drafts him.
agreed. anyone have a problem with just stating darvish and cespedes are eligible for the major league draft? and they can be put in your minors if they, for some reason, don't break camp with the team? What's wrong with a simple rule? I thought you didn't like rules with exceptions?
