1. Isn’t he still learning the offense? I would expect him to get more comfortable with reads and knowing exactly where guys are supposed to be as the season goes on. If we haven’t seen a difference by game 8, then yeah, I get the concerns.
2. I think it's a symptom of raised expectations and having finally won it and knowing what it takes to do so. This team has been unbelievably resilient to injury, slumps, under performance, you name it. It's amazing they've got the record they do with all of that going on, but the doom and gloom comes from the fact that unless several guys get scorching hot on both the hitting and pitching end of things, this is a flawed team with little to no chance of winning the whole thing. I'm hoping against hope guys get healthy and hot, but the expectation of a flame out in the DS is where I'm at right now.
3. Not-so-coincidentally: Carpenter during this 9-10 run: .772 OPS That's definitely a more apt correlation. He was carrying the entire offense with a few kick ins from others here and there and it made them look a lot better than they were. Martinez has gone ice cold as well.
4. that would mean he's been unhealthy for 2 years in a row, which wouldn't fill me with confidence either I think the personal life turmoil had a lot to do with last year's struggles. I'm certainly not counting on it, but I still see potential for a significant offensive improvement.
5. I keep hoping he’s hurt like Zo was last year and just needs the offseason to get healthy.
6. Funny you should ask.
7. You Derwood almost everything so there are no expectations other than for you to Derwood things.
8. He loses a few points because he's clearly hobbled in some way, but the bat toss was amazing and the cadillacing around the bases was a nice touch as well. That catcher needs a whoopin'.
9. If this dude is actually good, he's going to be fun to watch for a few years until he gets too ginormous.
10. Javy is homering next inning. I feel it.
11. Has Bryant crapped his pants from too much drinking lately?
12. That was some grade A trash talk. =D>
13. Any idea when this thing is supposed to get rolling?
14. Is it me or does Len sound a little like John Mulaney in the Javy home run call?
15. His wife isn't around I assume so someone has to take care of his needs.
16. Living down here and seeing it on a daily basis, Matheny was like playing for Debbie Downer who also made you have a constricted butt hole. Him being lauded as this leader of men when he took over was a bunch of BS and he only got by as long as he did because he had guys on the team who did the dirty work for him. Once they were gone, he had no idea how to run things and I just think his ineptitude made everyone significantly worse that they really are. No doubt they're on a massive, unsustainable heater right now, but I think they're much closer to this (assuming their pitching stays reasonable healthy) than they are to the middling .500 team they've been the last couple years. And I hate it so much. These clowns down here are so damned annoying.
17. They’ve already said Martinez will go to the pen. Nothing announced on Wacha or Wainwright yet.
18. However out of market fans watch them now would almost certainly be the same way they'd see them on the Cubs network. This is really only materially different to the local market, in that there would no longer be any OTA broadcasts (WGN + ABC) and they would be on a different channel. If you watch them on Extra Innings now, that's how you'll watch them. If you have MLB.tv, that's how you'll watch them. I’m currently in the Chicago area. I’m mostly wondering for the future if I were to mov out of state. Back in the day, I refused to live in a certain town (out of state) because the cabl company they used didn’t carry WGN. That was way back when all but a handful of games were on WGN (before the sports channels). Yeah, I get everything through MLBTV across multiple platforms (app, Firestick, BluRay).
19. How do you figure this is true? The Cubs will be paying the full $20 million if they exercise the option and should have all of that hit their number. He's saying that 6 million of that 20 hit Hamels' luxury tax number over the duration of his deal in the form of his buyout already, so it'd be double counting to not have it deducted when the option is exercised. Texas paying the money isn't the relevant bit, that doesn't change anything from a luxury tax perspective. This is a spot that I've never had super high confidence on, so I'm not positive of the answer myself. Okay, the $6M being baked into the previous years of the contract makes sense.

21. Who knows on part one, seems plausible though he had a few okay starts and the stuff/velo was mostly good. Second part it’s too early to definitively know but he said he expects to be ready to go right away in ST next year. Which if all it is, is this stress reaction and the bicep/tricep soreness he has plenty of time to rest and recover. He essentially has shin splints in his elbow. I wouldn't be surprised if there's something mechanical that needs to change or some strengthening in another part of the arm/elbow/shoulder that needs to happen as a preventive measure. This likely isn't just a simple rest and it gets better situation.
22. I will never get over how hilarious that play is. Dude looks like he's inventing a new dance move out there. The Stanky leg dub over is what really made that played amazing for me.
23. Yeah, but there is just something about Bader that the Cardinal fans like more than Almora. Does Bader like to drink and drive or beat his wife too? Funny you should ask. [tweet] [/tweet]
24. I was watching the game against the Nats last night and the praise for anything any of their players do well is just so over the top gushing that it's gross. DeJong made a decent play in the hole and Bader made that jumping catch and it sounded like they had just made a World Series game 7 saving play by the sound of it.
