  1. They've really struggled to get production from their OF and SS. If they miss (or don't play) on Machado/Harper, then they need to fill those holes with players who can stay there for at least a few years. I think their pitchers are undervalued somewhat as Philly literally had the worst defensive runs saved ever. Pivetta shouldn't be outrageously expensive after putting up era's of 6.02 and 4.77 in his first two years. But I think he's got a much better level of performance coming ahead, especially going from the worst defense in years to a pretty good one with the Cubs. Lineup: 2B) Zobrist 3B) Bryant RF) Harper SS) Baez 1B) Rizzo C) Contreras LF) Schwarber CF) Heyward Bench: Almora/Caratini/Cabrera/Happ/La Stella SP: Darvish/Lester/Hamels/Hendricks/Quintana/Pivetta Swing: Smyly/Monty RP: Morrow/Strop/Edwards/Cishek/Neris/Chavez/Morgan Didn't you just trade him to the Phillies?
  2. Puig you magnificent bastard! I said to my gf after that 2nd pitch that he was either striking out or hitting it to the moon. Glad it was option 2.
  3. So it appears they figured something out at half. This is impressive, regardless of the opponent.
  4. I’m old and out of touch. I only know who three of those people are, and I’m clearly meant to be impressed by that lineup. i may or may not have googled the one on the right I'm not mad about the denim dress she's sort of wearing. My goodness.
  5. Yeah, mostly because him taking an at bat still gives you a better chance at winning than allowing the garbage bullpen to try to get nine outs.
  6. 1. I get shitfaced (s-faced) because I got turned down for a job today and the Cobs compound my misery. 2. Somehow, my misery is erased by a Seal Boy PH double to score the winning runs late.
  7. I really don't think today was on Joe. Pointlessly pulling Chavez for La Stella when he did is all on Joe. Yep, that was a huge mistake in my opinion. You probably burn him for today if you send him back out there, but then again, you’re possibly not playing today if you leave him in and can score a run. I have no idea who’s closing in that scenario though.
  8. The Brewers played at a 118+ win pace in September. I’m willing to give them all of the credit. And they still had to win seven in a row to finish the season just to get to today’s game.
  9. Honestly, if Bryzzo get out, I'd be ok with him taking an AB with 2 outs and 0 on and pitching another inning. But that's probably because I'm a moron I’m with you. He’s only thrown 16 pitches.
  10. All right idiots, put your pre-2016 doom boners back in your pants and have a little faith you weenies.
  11. I’m not really sure why, but same here. Also, the offense is blech so far. At least they aren’t swinging at garbage outside of Javy.
  12. I'm having the same internal debate but add a $74 train ride to it. I'm torn.
  13. Yep, regular season game.
  14. No horsefeathers. Didn't top 80 mph on anything ? That's insane.
  15. It really is pretty amazing that this team lost their supposed #2 starter for essentially the entire year, lost their MVP 3B for half the year and got about 75% of him when he played, went half the season without their closer and still managed 95 wins. Whereas the Brewers had nearly everything go exactly perfect and they miracled 95 wins.
  16. So my "he's still learning the offense theory" may be a good stance to have taken? I'll be the first to agree he's looked like garbage the last 2 weeks.
  17. Emergency Duke gam thread.
  18. They said 700 some days ago on the radio Week 16 2013 (horsefeathers Conte) (edit: well that was actually week 17 but still horsefeathers Conte) I was at that week 17 game and it was cold AF and the loss was soul crushing.
  19. Not to mention you'd then have to go find someone who is actually better than Joe and I'm not sure that's a likely thing either.
  20. Isn’t he still learning the offense? I would expect him to get more comfortable with reads and knowing exactly where guys are supposed to be as the season goes on. If we haven’t seen a difference by game 8, then yeah, I get the concerns.
  21. I think it's a symptom of raised expectations and having finally won it and knowing what it takes to do so. This team has been unbelievably resilient to injury, slumps, under performance, you name it. It's amazing they've got the record they do with all of that going on, but the doom and gloom comes from the fact that unless several guys get scorching hot on both the hitting and pitching end of things, this is a flawed team with little to no chance of winning the whole thing. I'm hoping against hope guys get healthy and hot, but the expectation of a flame out in the DS is where I'm at right now.
  22. Not-so-coincidentally: Carpenter during this 9-10 run: .772 OPS That's definitely a more apt correlation. He was carrying the entire offense with a few kick ins from others here and there and it made them look a lot better than they were. Martinez has gone ice cold as well.
  23. that would mean he's been unhealthy for 2 years in a row, which wouldn't fill me with confidence either I think the personal life turmoil had a lot to do with last year's struggles. I'm certainly not counting on it, but I still see potential for a significant offensive improvement.
  24. I keep hoping he’s hurt like Zo was last year and just needs the offseason to get healthy.
