What does this mean?

I may be in the minority but I hated the Abreu idea. Too much money on a position that can be "fixed" much more cheaply when there are so many other obvious needs on the team and there's clearly a hard cap on what will be spent.

I was impressed with Virginia though I have to say Illinois pretty much lost the game with poor shot selection and sloppiness (and free throws). A lot of hero ball and individual play in the last couple minutes really cost them. You could tell they were a team that hadn't played together much in contrast to the very disciplined UVA squad. I think that's all correctable stuff and something I feel like Underwood has done well in previous years, plus as the season rolls on they'll just naturally figure out who the go to guys are in those close and late situations. Overall very encouraging weekend for me from an Illini fan perspective.

You should peruse this thread and see how the ability to hit velocity thing was kind of debunked after Keith Law said it. Some pretty impressive hitting on high heat, even from lefties.

I have no evidence either, but I think there's something to be said for this theory from a QB perspective. There's a reason guys like Brady and Rodgers have come back to win a million times. Yes, it's mostly because they're great QBs overall, but they also operate at a high level under pressure very frequently. The team as a whole, probably not really as big of a factor but I think it's a real thing for QBs.

Yeah, I watched the JT O'Sullivan breakdown and he pointed out the Dolphins definitely clamped up the coverage after that first drive. He blamed lack of talent on the outside, but I honestly think it's tough in the NFL to get open just running straight against non-press coverage that you don't completely beat off the line. The Bears need to run rub routes and crossers to get guys open (everyone does) and it seems like there aren't enough of guys just beating their man. JT actually mentioned that on the incompletion to the outside. The TE rubbed the cover guy of the outside receiver and he came open on a crosser but Fields had decided pre snap to throw outside and didn't wait for it to come open. Would have been an easy completion for a 1st down if he saw it. They're doing those things and while the improvement has been exponential, he's definitely still a work in progress.

That Georgia defense is for real. I think a lot of people doubted it after losing all those guys to the draft after last year but what they did to Tennessee Saturday is really impressive. Even the breakdowns on Gameday Saturday morning were doubting they could stop the TN offense.

It doesn't really say that. It says the Steelers thought the Bears suck more than the Packers and their 2nd rounder would be a higher pick so they took that deal. May have been a mistake based on what we've seen the last few weeks. -

I 100% agree with this and am kind of amazed that even while they mention it being a factor, it's being almost completely discounted in grading the trade by the pundits. The lack of options in FA plus stealing a resource from the Packers makes the grade from me significantly higher than the deal would be in a vacuum. -
I think the bigger shock was the fact that he's just foregoing the $20 million he would have gotten from Colorado if he opted out. That money now goes to the Cards to pay the rest of his deal. He really only would have had to get a contract exactly like what he already has to increase his intake by $20 million. Just seems like an odd move for someone who clearly tried to max out what he was getting previously. Maybe he just likes being in the land of the unvaxxed and not getting a ration of horsefeathers for it too. I haven't seen anything indicating Arenado would've gotten more for opting out like that. He has 20 million in deferred 2021 salary he's owed, but that deferral isn't on top of his previous salaries, it's overdue salary from years already past. Is there another 20 million that Cot's doesn't seem to be referencing? Yeah, it's weird thing that Brett mentioned in his write up. There's a $20 million payment that the Rockies have to fork over. If he opts out, it goes to him, if he doesn't it, goes to the Cards to pay his salary. That's on top of the $20 million deferred from 21 and the $30 million deferred over the next 10 years that he gets later.

I assume you're talking about Pujols and the bat? Based on what I read it was a player safety issue, not a competitive issue.

I feel like losing games 4-2 and 3-2 isn't some massive blow out that shows they aren't competitive. Game 2 was legit a difference of one bad pitch.

I have a feeling this may be related to where the pressure is coming from. Comparatively, so much of his is coming from straight up the middle vs from the outside against other teams that I'd bet it has an impact on that number. Getting Mustipher the hell out of there as to be a top priority.

That looked to be above the belt too, not exactly a prime pitch for a guy with a slow bat to rope back up the middle.

This was one of like 4 Bears games I've been to. It was like 10 degrees that day and that ending made it an absolutely awful afternoon.

This was my immediate reaction. Call something where Fields can use his legs. hell, they wouldn't have even been at the 5 yard line if not for that, so use your best weapon. We've seen Mahomes walk into the end zone time after time on misdirection plays and there's no reason Fields shouldn't be able to do something similar.

I hate, hate, hate going for 2 that early in the game because there are so many permutations where it ends up costing you in the end, just like it did yesterday. They kick the extra point and everything else goes as it did, the Vikings only go for 1 and are up 28-23 and a TD in the last 2 minutes wins the game instead of tying it or putting you in a position where you have to go for 2 to win. Statistically it may well be the right call but I just don't like it in that spot at all.

That's rather shocking. I'm happy to see the team winning games, and the defense is really good, but it still doesn't feel like there's any way they are one of the best 25 teams. But let's win a few more games and go to a semi-respectable bowl game for a change!It appears Vegas agrees, as the #24 Illini are 4 point home dogs to unranked Minnesota next week (and I agree with this assessment, I think Minnesota is the one legit team in the BTW this season). I'll be curious to see if that changes if DeVito is cleared to play. The backup is hot garbage.

He definitely passed the eye test. He made a lot of really good decisions and anticipated the rush exceptionally well a couple times. The one reverse spin move out of the pocket where he essentially left 2 Vikings defenders grasping at air was impressive as hell. This very much looked like him finally feeling comfortable with where guys are going to be and when they're going to be there. I can't say I'm surprised it's taken a bit with a young QB learning a new offense. I really would have liked to see them let him make a play instead of a run up the middle on 3rd down before the last FG.
