  1. Is there any other place to get tickets beside Wrigleyville Rooftops? I'm looking for a group of 10-12 guys for a bachelor party on Saturday Memorial Day weekend. Any suggestions thoughts are welcome.
  2. And that's exactly what makes a 64/65 team bracket great. It actually means something to get into the tournament. It would be like if Harvard or Yale went from their current accepted number of students to a number 2 or 3 times that. Yeah, you still went there, but how diluted is your educational experience over what the people who got in and graduated with higher standards?
  3. Not a fan. There's still something special for a lot of teams just to get in the tourney, knowing thy have no chance to win it all. The layoff thing sucks too. You look at a conference like the Missouri Valley. Their tourney ends the Sunday before selection Sunday. They could move it back and stretch out their season, but they've been doing it this way fr a while, which allows them some extra exposure because they're playing a tourney during the last weekend of regular season games for the big boys. Don't like it for a bunch of reasons, most of which aren't really good arguments, but just my personal preference.
  4. I'm late to the party here, but do you remember the term they used to use when the Bulls would pressure the other team full court? Unleashing the dobermans. Could Toni Kukoc play defense? Not a chance. I think even bigger than the loss of rebounding was the loss of the ability those teams with Grant had to play pressure defense and just shut people down because they were so athletic at the 2, 3, and 4 spots. Plus, he was the toughness down low on that team. Cartwright, Perdue, Longley, Wennington, Stacey King, and whoever else they sent out there just didn't bring the same energy or toughness as Grant. And regardless of your argument, Jordan was not the same guy while he was wearing 45 as he was when he came back after having an off season to get ready for the 95-96 season. That wasn't why they lost, but he wasn't his old self until the next season.
  5. Would it be fair to say that Rose not being 100% had a lot to do with the slow start? It's beginning to appear he truly is THE guy that makes this team go as well as he's played lately.
  6. They're friends. It was an inside joke. He's still an enormous turd. And a cheater.
  7. Anybody see Calipari's interview with John Buccigross on ESPN? I heard a clip of it this morning and he called Buccigross a jag bag on national television. What an enormous turd.
  8. He also wanting a 4-5 year deal last offseason, coming off of wrist surgery. Now he was pretty much completely healthy this last year so he could still be asking for a 3-4 year deal as well. He's also a Type A free agent FWIW, even though we're pick #16, it is a protected pick. So we'd only lose the 2nd rounder. I thought just the top 15 picks were protected?
  9. It seems to get worse every year. Or at the very least, a whole lot less consistent. I mean, if one team is drawing blood on defense and not getting called for it, at least let the other team do the same. It seems I've watch a number of games this year where a guy gets destroyed going to the hole with no call on one end and then a hand check 40 feet from the basket gets called on the next possession on the other end of the court.
  10. I predict Sheets is on the DL and not available in July.
  11. Their entire problem is lack of aggressiveness. When they play more up tempo and go to the hole, they score better and play better D. When Weber gets them into that run the clock and then get a good shot, they can't do it because they don't have a guy who can quickly get them into the offense.
  12. Illinois again proving they are the dumbest team in the country.
  13. Apparently jersey grabbing is acceptable for NU but we can't do anything to get away from them without a foul being called.
  14. Apparently DMac didn't just get hip checked on that fast break. Interesting. At least they got the travel on the other end.
  15. Yeah, when did it become okay to use that little chicken wing move and not get called for hooking the defensive player? Overall, this game is being terribly officiated. It's been in favor of Northwestern, but there are bad calls going both ways with all the ticky tack crap that's getting called.
  16. So a guy who averaged about 5 1/2 IP per start and made about 2/3 of the starts a reliable guy would make is irreplaceable? I agree that the stats are nice, but the extra strain on the pen plus having to find spot starters when he can't take the mound is just another burden.
  17. Eh, if Old Style's reported numbers are right, that's really not terrible. $2M for 2 years isn't really bad for the production he'll provide. Granted, I know nothing about the guy they gave up, but the numbers somebody posted certainly aren't anything earth shattering.
  18. Just heard this on the radio in St. Louis. Not sure of what for, but it sounded like it was done.
  19. Surely Wells can at least be our viable #5 starter in that scenario. Except in that scenario, Wells is your #3 with Lilly out until May. Z Demp Wells Gorzo Shark/Marshall/Silva/other dog crap Hendry signs
  20. I'm asking a legitimate question here and not trying to be critical of anybody, but how many of those who don't think chemistry has any effect on performance have been on a sports team that spends a significant amount of time together? And if you have, how many have been in a situation where the chemistry was crappy? I've been in both situations and can say from experience that bad chemistry in the locker room can have an effect on the way the team performs. Good chemistry may not make a team go from an 85 win team to a 100 win team, but I think there probably is an effect, just because guys are in a better mood when they go out there and they aren't thinking about the jerk in the locker next to them. Just my thoughts.
  21. I'm not sure how or why you can't count guys. Lovie was a college coach as well. In addition to Saban, Bobby Petrino quit and went back to college. Al Groh resigned from the Jets to take the Virginia job, and he was a pro guy for a decade before going back. Pete Carrol went from NFL assistant, to NFL head coach, back to NFL assistant and then chose college. Lane Kiffin went from college to Pro and college. Spurrier quit the Redskins. Butch Davis went back and forth between the NFL and college, and he resigned (albeit forced) from Cleveland before going back to college. It might be odd to find a guy to leave his current gig and go back to college, but coaches go back to college all the time, and it's not unheard of for them to leave gigs on their own. Dennis Erickson has gone back and forth multiple times. Mike Sherman has gone back. Good ole' Lou Holtz quit the Jets after less than a full season. It happens all the time. Guys get fired or quit NFL gigs and take college jobs. Back in the day when I had season tickets to Fighting Illini games in Champaign in the late 80's or early 90's (Griffith was the running back at the time), the head coach was a former NFL head coach. His name escapes me right now since I'm old. Jason Verduzco was the QB that year, IIRC. John Mackovic?
  22. Yes it is. That along with the luge and skeleton are awesome. I also enjoy the short track speed skating. I keep waiting for a wipeout where somebody's hand gets run over and they lose a finger in a bloody mess.
  23. Is it just me, or are moving screens just being completely ignored by referees this year? I've noticed it the most in Illinois game because that's who I watch, but it seems like that part of the rule book is just being completely ignored right now. And it's not just happening to UI on defense, I saw plenty of moving screens from them last night.
  24. I'll take the Rams since I live down here and have a reasonable idea of what they need.
  25. I don't think you'll see him take any job other than a HC position if/when he jumps to the NFL.
