  1. I guess my question in Jake's shoes would be why now? Why not wait until closer to the deadline when more teams are more desperate and you may be able to drive the price up a bit. The one blurb I did see on this trade was that the AAA pitcher from the Braves is like 7-2 with a 2.xx ERA. Is he not that good or does he just not project as much more than, say, Kevin Hart maybe?
  2. I wish the Expos were still around. I loved driving up to Montreal for a weekend of gambling, drinking, strip clubs, and a cheap ticket to a sparsely attended major league baseball game. just wanted to say that strip clubs in Canada effing rule. Ok, curiosity got the better of me: Why? Loose rules, high % ABV beer and really hot women.
  3. I want you to prove that rotation is mediocre. You've said it repeatedly, you are wrong, and I'd like for you to produce some sort of evidence that Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, Marquis, Marshall is a mediocre rotation. it probably isn't, but in light of the health issues of zambrano and harden, you're leaving yourself quite thin in terms of front line pitching when they suffer their (somewhat) inevitable injuries. That added to the fact that relying on Marshall to be in the rotation all year when he's never pitched more than about 160 or so innings. You just have to have depth and only going into the season with 5 guys as starters doesn't make sense for any team, especially one with the so-so track record of this team in terms of going out there every 5th day.
  4. Not to take away from your game thread pimping expertise, but we are currently operating under daylight savings time, therefore, the time should be 7:05 CDT. Regardless, carry on and keep doing whatever it is you have been to continue this glorious winning streak.
  5. It amazes me that people think the argument that Hendry completely abdicates his job to a subordinate is a legitimate defense. Yeah, I think that's honestly a bigger indictment of the guy than just being bad at his job. That implies that he knows he's so incompetent that he defers to somebody else on decisions because he doesn't want to make them. This is really the first off season since MacPhail has been gone that I've had a big problem with moves he's made.
  6. Hit on wrist by pitch. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AiG9YcwaPLQhScFdW5btWyERvLYF?slug=ap-brewers-brauninjured&prov=ap&type=lgns
  7. Whether it did anything or not, they were very clearly a different team after his base throwing tirade in 2007 (or whatever he did). Maybe it just loosened everybody up, I don't know. They were in the midst of a similar losing streak then, but didn't have injuries to speak of at that point. Like people have been saying, Lou just seems disinterested and very hands off right now.
  8. That's what teams do when they're not very good. I was at a friend's and was watching the Nuggets-Lakers game with more attention, but did Lou really leave Ascanio in to hit for himself and then immediately went to Cotts the next inning? Great managing there. Brenly thought that Z was supposed to be pinch-hitting for Ascanio there, but wasn't ready for some reason. Why the [expletive] would u pinch hit a pitcher when you have 2 lefties on the bench that normally are starters? Because there was a lefty on the mound and the only RH PH was the backup catcher. You're not gonna send Fontenot or Scales up there to face a lefty in the bottom of the 5th when your bench is as short as it was last night.
  9. Tinoisamoa is a pretty good player when he's on the field. Unfortunately, that only has happened about 50% of the time in the last several years if memory serves. They better keep somebody solid to back him up when he gets hurt or it will be a net negative for the D.
  10. So the Brewers sent Gwynn Jr. to SD for Jody Gerut? Why? Did an OF get hurt? That doesn't make any sense unless the put Braun back at 3rd and move Hall to 2nd.
  11. Hey, that makes him one out of two on scouting reports, and that ain't bad Wasn't a Cub he got right was it?
  12. Hrabosky just has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. It's so irritating to listen to him. "If you pitch Fukudome away, he won't make contact." Yeah, maybe last year, but he's done a pretty good job of going the other way so far this year and pitching him away certainly doesn't guarantee no contact. Moron.
  13. Because that was what he said. I'm pretty sure he was simply commenting on the fact that Rasmus hadn't done much against lefties since he got to the bigs. And the fact remains that the 2 pitches he's hit hard this series were both hanging curveballs, which ML hitters should hit hard.
  14. I'm pretty sure most ML hitters would have pounded the 2 hangers he's hit hard.
  15. Pretty highly thought of SS prospect, at least in the Cards org.
  16. It's nice but nothing mind-blowing. it's 100x better than old busch well duh. i'm just saying, it's a nice stadium, clean and whatnot, but if you're going for amenities or anything its nothing spectacular. That's exactly it. They cheaped out on doing anything cool or unique because the Cards footed most of the bill themselves. It's just a nice, new, generic stadium. My biggest gripe about the stadium is the fact that it is very difficult to get to the 200 level seats unless you know exactly where you're going. It's a pretty terrible set up. The park also doesn't have any good/traditional food (shocker since it's in St. Louis). They just have the traditional dogs, brats, nachos and crap like that.
  17. Back to normal baseball? Yea the whole"well Toronto tried it and look how that worked for them" and "back to normal baseball" Wtf. Im sorry but thats not the type of thinking I want around our young kids in the minors. I took it as more of an approach to hitting by looking for your pitch and hitting it as opposed to the "Moneyball" approach of going up there looking for a walk. It didn't sound to me like he was advocating going up there hacking.
  18. Because he hit 27 HRs playing in Petco half the time and thought he would be able to do even better playing in Wrigley half the time. Also, nobody knew he was a nutbag.
  19. He did throw a sim game the other day and I've heard he'll be on a 75-80 max pitch count. I don't know how accurate the PC number is, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to bring him back to pitch 4-5 innings with an already over worked bullpen. Over worked bullpen? Are you crazy? He really needed to use every pitcher in the pen except mop up guy Thompson in last nights 8-4 loss. Huh? All I was saying is that the Cards starters have had some short outings of late and the relievers have seemed to been picking up a lot of innings in the last week. Unless I'm terribly confused by your post.
  20. Oh, I agree completely. But it's more palatable to me to find a stop gap, adequate guy to play 3rd for a year or two and have Vitters waiting in the wings than to trade him for Peavy and have nothing in the system as a replacement for Ramirez if he doesn't come back as the player he's been. You're looking at what, 2009 in Low A and High A, 2010 in AA, 2011 in AAA and a 2012 arrival in Chicago if things go pretty much on a normal non-aggressive schedule?
  21. Has he been unlucky? The BAA and K:BB look pretty solid to see the ERA that high.
  22. I'm not optimistic on how Rammy's shoulder is going to respond, at least this season. After seeing how much Rolen struggled when he hurt his left shoulder, plus knowing how unstable the shoulder joint is from personal experience, I'm inclined to keep Vitters around because he's more likely to be needed sooner rather than later. I don't think the shoulder will be an ongoing problem in terms of playing 3rd base, but as violent as his swing can be and all the torque that puts on the front shoulder when you swing, that's what really concerns me. Therefore, (I just wanted to sound official and important there) if it takes Vitters to get Peavy, I say no way. If you can have a healthy Z, Harden, Lilly, and Demp going into the playoffs, there's plenty of pitching there if they can actually score a run here or there.
  23. Here's the article from the P-D about Greene. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/7D9C121C79320D1C862575BB001370FC?OpenDocument
  24. They were talking about him having social anxiety order this morning on the radio. I had no idea that he had an issue like that. Could be a huge part of the problem.
  25. He did throw a sim game the other day and I've heard he'll be on a 75-80 max pitch count. I don't know how accurate the PC number is, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to bring him back to pitch 4-5 innings with an already over worked bullpen.
