  1. Given his struggles, maybe we need to be more realistic about what he's actually worth. I thought it was telling that SI did a short article about young MLB catchers in the wake of the Posey stuff and Mauer coming back off the DL, and nowhere was Soto mentioned. Guys like Chris Iannetta and Jonathan Lucroy were, though. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1187111/index.htm I think it's telling that the guy who wrote it didn't do much research on young MLB catchers to not include a guy who was recently the NL rookie of the year and certainly hasn't completely disappeared since then.
  2. On any given pitch there is nothing wrong with swinging at something you can drive. But over the course of a game and a season it is absolutely necessary to not be a bunch of overaggressive morons. The Cubs are a bunch of overaggressive morons, and have been throughout virtually the entire Hendry era (with the exception of portions of the Piniella era). And nowhere did I say that that's a good or necessary thing over the course of the season. My issue is zeroing in on a single half-inning where it WASN'T an example of being aggressive automatically being a bad thing as if that was the epitome of what's wrong with the Cubs. You're both right, and those weren't bad pitches to swing at as they were all hard hit balls in that inning. I definitely prefer to see them take more pitches, but that half inning certainly wasn't a problem of just hacking since the results were hard hit balls either right at people or forcing them to make really good defensive plays.
  3. Yeah, pretty much everything was hit hard that inning.
  4. DJ looked pretty smooth on the double play there. Unless he bulks up a ton, I haven't seen any reason he can't stick at 2nd. And even if he does bulk up that much, then he's probably a big enough power threat to play 3rd regularly.
  5. I'm pretty sure he's wearing concrete shoes as long as it took him to get down the line there.
  6. Slider? It looked like a splitter that was the out pitch and pretty good so far today. Yep, it's moving all over the place.
  7. I set the over/under at 4. I don't think you understand how that works......
  8. He's not wrong. Hendry has a great reputation with players. I mean, it's because he does dumb things like overpaying crappy relievers and giving out no trade clauses like like Halloween candy, but he still has it.
  9. Really? At this point is it okay for me to root for the Brewers in order to spite St. Louis? And for a higher draft pick? Absolutely. Anything to make these rednecks more miserable is alright by me!
  10. What channel is this on?
  11. Honestly, I don't see the big problem with this. It's Posey's fault he put himself in an awkward position, which is clearly what really caused the injury, not the contact. If he's on balance like he should be, he gets knocked on his ass and that's about it. Being off balance and getting twisted around because of it is why he got hurt. It's a shame he got hurt, but I didn't think the hit was vicious or malicious.
  12. Is this smoke and mirrors or did Correia figure something out? Isn't this the 2nd time this year he's given us fits?
  13. It would have taken an absolute mauling for him to draw a foul there. He probably had a better chance to sink the fadeaway jumper than he would have to go to the basket 1 on 5. That's not on Rose. That's on Thibs for not figuring out another option with LeBron defending Rose. That's a bad matchup for Rose and you have to go somewhere else. I was thinking that as it happened and Legler said the same thing post game.
  14. Seems overly whiney considering in just the past couple years the farm system has given us our best player, 3/5 of our (original) rotation, 3/7 of our bullpen, a few other regulars, and still has the guy who will most likely be our starting CF next year, another guy with a very good shot of being in the rotation next year and several other guys who will probably make the majors at some point. When you put it that way, it's not nearly as bad. But it is a pretty uninspiring group based on current production and potential ceilings.
  15. And it seemed like every ball that could just by chance bounce to the Heat did. Not a lack of hustle or anything, just a bunch of unlucky bounces.
  16. Miss Lippy's car... is green. Billy.....likes to drink soda.
  17. Honestly, look at him when he's out top, he looks completely gassed.
  18. I was too young to watch the first 3 peat. And perhaps I'm underrating defensive impact, but I think you could argue it being the other way considering the latter Bulls had Toni Kukoc as their #3 option on offense and the #2 option for a huge portion of the final championship season. They wouldn't have been as dominant, for sure, but thats still a championship worthy team. You're greatly underestimating the defensive presence he provided. Jordan was a great defender, but Pippen could guard most anyone on the floor effectively other than centers (and a few really beefy PFs). He shut down Magic in the 1991 Finals for the most part just about singlehandedly. And there's no way any other SF leads that 1994 team to a near Finals appearance if not for that awful phantom foul call.
  19. Shockingly, I actually am getting the game in St. Louis.
  20. Cubs may score all their runs for the week with Franklin in now. It's really annoying having to listen to the Cards announcers even though the game is on ESPN. Hrabosky keeps talking about the cards hitters getting under Garza's skin for no apparent reason.
  21. That, and it's not uncommon to have spleen issues related to mono. It tends to get super inflamed when you have mono and an infection wouldn't be too hard to believe with that going on. It totally sucks, I've had it twice. Wrecked my (potential) running career.
  22. I've been here two years now, and I don't find anything redeeming about the local St. Louis cuisine. T-Ravs are decent, but their pizza sucks. There are some pretty good restaurants around here, but none of which specialize in "local fare." I really miss being able to get Italian Beef. Go to Blue's City Deli, everything they serve is fantastic. There's also a place on Delmar that does a great job with their Chicago dogs, but I can't vouch for their beef sandwiches.
  23. Based on what we've heard about the issues he was having, it almost sounds like he was just having a dead arm period he had to work through and has gotten past it. Here's hoping that's the case and he can maybe help in the bigs soon. If he's ready stuff-wise for it, he can't be any worse than what's been getting tossed out there in the #5 spot.
  24. Any reason not to PH Colvin and Pena for those two? Edit: N/M on Pena
