    Yeah, but from what I've read Henry kills it at practice. Scores at will, we get in games and can't score. Then he looks and sees what Ryan Boatright is doing at UCONN, he was better than him in high school. Hung 40 on him. The whole thing is a mess. Somehow we need to get better at communicating with our players. No, we need an offense with some imagination and creativity. I love the motion, but you have to add wrinkles to it here and there or it doesn't work year after year. And you have to recruit guys who can run it. Having no actual point guard right now just kills their offensive capabilities.

    Don't know much about him other than he's fairly young (37) and has been director of player personnel for ATL. Well, if he had anything to do with them realizing they needed an elite type wide receiver and going and getting Julio Jones, he's already in my good graces.

    Nope, it has about 98% to do with getting the extra pick. And like davell said, getting more picks means not only do you get to pick more highly ranked players, it means you get more slot money to spend on those guys. There are comparable talents to Pena out there and they're about a 100% lock to be signed by the Cubs before him simply because of the pick being such a big factor. If you don't see that as the reason, I don't know what else to tell you.

    Yes. Yeah, but the pick we'll receive for losing him is more important than allowing him to be a stopgap for us. Sign anyone other than him, at this point, in my opinion. Didn't they change that so there's a more select list of players that will cost a team draft picks? This being said, not signing Pena has little to do with the draft picks as much as it has to do with the fact that he's not part of where Theo wants to go with this team. I think that Fielders still an option if we can get him on Theos terms, but other than that I think that someone like Rizzo, Anderson, or Barton will be manning 1st by opening day. If you think this, you haven't been paying attention. Getting more picks has everything to do with why signing Pena isn't ideal. With the new limits on spending, getting supplemental picks high in the draft is even more important than it used to be.

    Sorry to go on a bit of a tangeant, But don't get me wrong, I love Wrigley, hell I named my dog after it but like when I'm toy shopping for my daughter and come across older or retro toys, they have a great nostalgic appeal but the fact of the matter is that the new toys are a hell of a lot cooler. I'm all for riding Wrigley as long as its still useable but if they decide to build a new park I would not be amongst the protesters. You have a daughter? Oh god.

    What? How can he be the head coach in an IHSA sanctioned program without a degree and teaching certificate? We had a coach who was the "head coach" in reality, but had to have a certified teach listed as the head coach for it to be legal per the IHSA. Unless that rule has changed, something doesn't jive here.

    i guess it depends how you define star level production. hard for me to think of a perfect comp - something like victorino, but with a little more pop, lower batting average and more K's... or chris young with less pop but a better batting average, or bj upton with a few more walks. those are all nice players and great value while under team control... i guess borderline stars who will make an all star team every now and then, rather than guys making "quite a few" all star games. I see Jackson as Jim Edmonds light. Just about the same skill set, but not quite as good in just about every area.

    Yeah, that thought is completely ridiculous. When one company buys another, they keep some of the employees and ask them to do their jobs in a different way in many cases. It's not like people are completely unable to adapt in any way. Some might be more difficult things to change, but it's certainly not ridiculous to think it can happen and in a significant way.

    That's good right? Will be back on the field for OTAs? Same injury Cutler had last year. Who knows how severe. Definitely a whole lot better than an ACL though.

    Weber can't coach talented players. He plays a grinding style of basketball that is best suited to mid major play because you have time to develop guys over a few years because everybody stays for at least 4 years and there's not pressure to succeed every year. I also think these guys aren't listening to him anymore. The Mike and Mike years cost him all respect and authority over the players and he's just not getting his message across anymore.

    If I was a Celtics fan I'd be more concerned about KG's knees exploding and choking people than I would what the Bulls were doing.

    Now if we could only just get most people to acknowledge how likely it truly is that Prince is likely to "suck" at some point in the contract, we might be able to come to a consensus on how dumb offering 8 years would be. I think most people are aware of that, they're just willing to assume that risk to get the production he'd provide in the first 4-5 years of the contract. I think they're unfortunately forgetting how bad Soriano is right now in a similar situation. I don't think Fielder will end that badly at the plate, but he certainly won't be worth anywhere near what he's getting paid in years 7 and 8 of a contract.

    he's 6 feet, so knowing most nfl teams they won't even put him on their board Looks like he has a noodle arm too. That could just be my perception since he's a lefty though. They rarely look smooth throwing the ball to me.

    It's certainly more advanced than wins and ERA. I think the point is, introduce the evidence, explain it properly, and it can make a difference in who wins an arby case.

    Does pythag in any way take into account strength of schedule or is it just a measure of expected wins by runs scored vs. allowed?

    Really? You're telling me the notion of having a fire sale and rebuilding wasn't lambasted around here every time it was mentioned by the Chicago media over the past few years? Over the past few years, yeah, but that's because nobody had any faith in Hendry having any clue on how to go about doing that because he didn't look for the right things in players. Now that Theo is running things, there was hope that they would reload, but I don't think anybody is lambasting the idea of rebuilding, they're just disappointed that it's now going to be a few years before the Cubs are good again.

    Is that sarcasm? You're tracing a forearm injury from 7 years prior to Wainwright getting TJS? No. He had some forearm problems and they found a slight UCL tear that held up for a long time before he actually had to get it fixed. Granted, that's probably an extreme outlier, but obviously not impossible.

    He stole a base almost 50% of the time he reached based. He also scored approximately half of the time that he reached base. Pretty amazing numbers. You do realize that him scoring that often only has a small amount to do with his ability right? The SB numbers are impressive though.
