  1. Doesn't really matter, it's nonsensical gibberish.
  2. For the life of me, I can't recall what we even gave up *goes from memory* A couple of pitching prospects, iirc. Justin Jones and someone named Felix something? And we got back Murton as well. *looks it up* Francis. Francis Beltran, Justin Jones, Brendan Harris (the 3b prospect that once got a Pujols comp from BP) and Alex Gonzalez (I'd forgotten we gave up our SS). As soon as I read Felix I remembered Frankie something.
  3. For the life of me, I can't recall what we even gave up Didn't we send some minor league pitching to the Twins (Justin Jones?) and Alex Gonzales went somewhere in the deal. No idea other than that without looking it up.
  4. I don't really want the Pirates to go on a deep playoff run and get the extra revenue that comes with it. There was a huge debate down here in the last couple of years about the Cards getting a bunch of extra revenue from playoff games and that whole thing was debunked I believe. It pretty much came down to having to make it to the World Series for the money to become remotely significant and even then it was a huge, go out and sign all the players amount (or really even one significant contract).
  5. He's never OPSed over .800 in the minors, so, meh.
  6. It was obvious that Pujols was lying about his age long before I even knew what plantar fasciitis was. What a weird comment. Not really, since there's no actual evidence that he's not as old as he says he is. While it's never really all that surprising if a LA player is revealed to have done something like this, given that Pujols was already in the system and a new player when 9/11 happened and baseball faced a serious visa/immigration crackdown then (which is how a bunch of guys got caught within a relatively small time span) it's even more unlikely that he'd get away with this. Pretty much the only major exceptions with guys playing at that time were Soriano (because of his circuitous route through Japan) and Tejada. I think he may have escaped some of that scrutiny since he was well established in the US and went to high school and juco here. He's definitely not your everyday case and I'm pretty certain he lives in St. Louis year round. He's also been a US citizen since 2007, which I suppose would have probably caused some added attention to his birth date. Who knows?
  7. Gameday not only had ball 4 in the strike zone but also it was the same color as all the other strikes. (red vs blue for a ball).
  8. His production has been pretty much the same, FWIW. I just remember it seeming like every time he went more than an inning at a time he'd get lit up in the second inning.
  9. Is Bowden doing anything different since he came back up other than locating pitches better?
  10. Really? You guys don't see any way that learning to use balance and leverage by getting familiarized with some MMA techniques could help you control a guy as an offensive lineman? Okay..... It's kind of like a running back or wide receiver taking ballet classes to work on balance. It makes perfect sense. I'm not saying it's the be all end all, but I can certainly see why a guy would do it and how it would be helpful.
  11. Well, in his defense (maybe?), Axford is as bad at pitching as he is at hitting.
  12. Is it too early to call this a fake rally? This is a good one if it's not.
  13. I'm following on Gameday and thought that was an odd play.
  14. It was obvious that Pujols was lying about his age long before I even knew what plantar fasciitis was. Oh it was, was it? i have this same idiotic argument with a friend. of course, he'll never be proven "wrong" because no evidence will ever come out to the effect of "PUJOLS' STATED AGE PROVEN ACCURATE" so he can say dumb, unfounded [expletive] all the time without worrying about ever being shown to be a fool. he's now doing the same thing with CHRIS DAVIS OBVIOUSLY TAKES ROIDS. Those arguments are hilarious. While I tend to have a strong suspicion that Pujols is probably 36 or 37, there's probably not going to be any way we hear about it until after his career is over and that Angels' contract has expired so he doesn't get sued. To try to say with any kind of definitiveness that he's older than he claims is just dumb.
  15. He's got enough options who have been pretty decent of late that it's inexcusable to send a guy like Strop, who's pitched the last 2 days and has spotty control to begin with, out there for a 3rd day in a row in a 0-0 game. Parker would have been a much better choice, if for no other reason than he's fresh. It's just another instance of Sveum making a very curious decision when it comes to BP usage. He's just bad at it.
  16. Like to Tennessee or he's been spending too much time at New Glarus with you?
  17. What the HELL did the mid/late 90's Cubs starting pitchers do to piss off the gods? Jim Bullinger better watch his back. Refresh memory... Jeremi Gonzalez boating accident/lightning strike for one.
  18. Trading for guys like Olt, Grimm, Arrieta and Strop emphasizes a more near-term approach than trading for higher ceiling, lower-level types. You can disagree but you know you are wrong. Plus the fact that of all the guys they traded, the only ones they had control over for more than the rest of the season they were traded were Maholm and Soriano. How about signing Jackson to a 4 year deal? They've done a bunch of stuff that indicates near term desire to compete, meaning next year, not this year.
  19. I wonder what the odds were of the Cardinals making the playoffs on that date. Probably not all that terrible since the division was so awful. So depressing. They won the wild card, and the Brewers won 96 games. Bah, I was thinking 2006 when they won 83 games.

    Rizzo

Man, he's seemingly been around for so long (in my brain with the whole attachment to the FO) that it seems like he should be at least 25 or so. The fact that he's still only 23 definitely gives me some hope that he'll evolve into the .300/.400/.500 guy we all want him to be.

  22. If you post a link, please summarize the content. Didn't he do that with the thread title?
  23. This is where I am with Baez as well. I don't think it's nitpicking to be extremely concerned with the BB/K ratio at this point, but the power is unbelievable. But the concern is (and should be) very real. We've seen this story before: Player A (age 19 at high A & AA): .297/.341/.540 34/122 BB/K ratio (133 games) Player B (age 20 at high A & AA): .265/.327/.556 27/110 BB/K ratio (96 games) Player A is Joel Guzman. He was ranked the #5 prospect and was out of MLB by 2010 at the age of 25. Player B is Baez. I don't think you can just look at those numbers in a vacuum though. Baez made a significant adjustment at Daytona and dropped the K rate to like 22% his last month or so. There was a definite progression in his approach and he didn't just get promoted on the premise of a hot month like used to happen. Now, if we don't see a more positive trend on the Ks toward the end of his time in AA, even if it's only down to 22% or so, then I'll be concerned.
  24. Gotta be FDB. He always had something new and interesting way to be a weirdo and entertain us all.
