  1. What's the highest bonus that doesn't count against that? $50 or $100K?
  2. The only numbers that are out of whack from him being bad earlier this year are the BB/9 and HR/9. Both obviously big problems, but he was still striking out a bunch of guys. I wonder if he's actually controlling the zone better now or if he's just getting more swings and misses on pitches out of the zone that AA guys would lay off.
  3. Man, as tough as power is to come by these days, I'm really reluctant to deal Schierholtz even with a decent return if there are any hopes of being competitive next year. Especially since he's the strong side of the platoon. I'm hoping Dejesus comes back early enough and well enough that they can get something for him instead.
  4. I think that's yet to be determined after he got his eyes fixed.
  5. are stress fractures things that happen at one point or something that builds over time? I don't think it's possible to pinpoint a time when a stress fracture occurred. It may not actually be a stress fracture as that's just kind of a general term for vertical "cracks" in the tibia. It could well have been caused by the foul ball off the leg and there's just not a better term for it.
  6. Hell, that's probably worse than pulling the trigger in terms of how much time he'd serve.
  7. The reveal on that one was fantastic. I could watch this all night. What am I missing? The fact that the 2B had a cup of coffee between the time he caught the ball and threw it because Molina is super fast.
  8. hilarious, and amazing that teams could get excited about a mediocre reliever who has a solid month or two. but please, sell that snake oil jed/theo. It's not snake oil, he's a completely different pitcher who's reinvented himself. Apparently you haven't been paying attention.
  9. It hit 101 at one point. It also hit a bat that drove in a couple runs. But he was throwing hard. I was there and the stadium gun was 98-100 on every FB.
  10. After 10 years, yeah, you've established a large enough set of data that that's probably a safe assumption. What we're talking about here is an in season ERA that's much lower than previous performance would indicate. Things like an unsustainable HR/FB ratio, a really high strand rate of baserunners, and low K/BB ratio would be dead giveaways that the low ERA isn't sustainable. Those things are factored into FIP and xFIP to give you a more accurate assessment of performance.
  11. And I don't think he ever saw the shot that tied it at 5. Looked like the defender diving to block the shot screened him until it was too late because of the trajectory of the shot and the fact that it stayed low so long. He just never reacted to that one at all until it was right on him.
  12. Yeah, but I think that's based more on their hitting than anything defensively. Was he close to being as athletic as Bryant? It's based on body type as well: http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000ERYRo4IJZYI/s/600/600/Glaus-Troy3609-4-Goren.jpg Considering Glaus played SS at UCLA, I don't think it's a stretch to say they were considered similar athletically too. I just hate the body type argument because guys that size who are very athletic are inherently extremely rare, so of course you don't see a lot of them play that position at a high level. I don't think the sample size is large enough to say someone isn't likely to play the position well BECAUSE of his height/size. That and you've got a guy like Scott Rolen, who was about the same size as those guys, and was a great defensive 3B.
  13. I'm not talking just on offense. His defensive ability off the ball is amazing and he just seems to float pretty often when he could be making plays. The blocked shots he makes from seemingly out of nowhere seem to happen most often in one of the runs like they made last night where his effort is amped up.
  14. For me, the thing that's really irritating about Lebron is that despite having all the talent in the world, he seems to just coast and let the game dictate to him instead of making the game flow the way he wants it to. I don't know if that's a function of the players around him or what, but it seems to me that most of the other great players out there, when matched up with an approximately equally talented opponent, could impose their will on the game a little bit more. Maybe it just seems like he's not exerting that much effort because things come so easily to him, but man, when he gets really motivated, he's an unstoppable monster out there. I can't figure out why that player doesn't show up more consistently, especially in the playoffs.
  15. He was way out of the basepaths. It wasn't a particularly dirty slide (at least IMO), but it was definitely the right call. Just saw the replay and Robinson's left arm was at least a foot away from the bag. The late foot flail was what was really out of line. Seems about par for the course for them though. Their fans won't ever see it, but stuff like this happens pretty regularly.
  16. Leonard is a 63% FT shooter. don't get why people are so anxious to be all CHOKE CHOKE every time a team loses a close game. 82%, They put up a graphic late in the game saying 63 or 64% for Leonard.
  17. I got 5. That's some weird [expletive] that never actually happens in games though. I was surprised by the Ben Revere at 3rd answer.
  18. No, but it's a crazy optical illusion caused by those criss-crossing bars beyond the fence.
  19. He's been really solid this year. I think he ends up as the next Sean Marshall/James Russell type. By type if you mean LH relief pitcher, then yes. But not results. Since 2010 (Marshall's first full year as a relief pitcher) Marshall has a higher K/9 rate every year in MLB than Rusin does in AA/AAA. Marshall has put up fWAR's of 1.7, 2.6, 1.9 the last 3 years, Rusin isn't ever going to do that in MLB. Marshall's FIP and xFIP are also 1-2 full points lower at the MLB level than Rusin's are at the AAA/AA level over the last 3 years. Rusin is nothing more than minor league fodder. What about Marshall's minor league numbers when he was a starter? Or was he injured too often to really rack up many innings?
  20. Maybe he meant to say he hasn't seen the power yet. Who knows, that really is confusing.
  21. The pulling of Russell after one or two batters is the thing that drives me the most insane. You can maybe talk yourself into the Marmol stuff being something the FO is dictating, but you're absolutely right about the rest of the BP management. It's completely atrocious and it really is surprising with the many good decisions he makes in other areas of the game.
