  1. Uhhh...what?? Did you expect them to contend for the conference title or something? No, painting the Illini as being unlucky just helps him build up the "universe is out to get sulley" narrative. As if the universe give a [expletive] about him. I think there was a lot of bad luck in the NW game, but this losing streak is all about bad offense. Not unlucky, just bad. The problem is that all of the real talent (outside of Rice) are raw freshmen. After losing to Purdue and NW, which were games that were "put it in the win column" games before the B1G season started, it's gonna be tough sledding getting into the tournament. They have to be shooting a pretty close to historically low % from inside 5 feet at this point in conference games. That may be a combination of being bad and having bad luck, but it's really amazing to watch them miss as often as they do from close range.
  2. I'm so desperate for ML talent at this point that I'm pretty much at this point as well.
  3. That whole deal went down after they put the screens up to block the roof tops views and they threatened to sue. I guess the Cubs figured 17% of their take was better than nothing.

  5. Bryant has a lot more power than Bruce though doesn't he? Edit: Never mind, didn't realize Bruce had progressed to a 30+ HR guy.
  6. That's Illinois, just replace defensive train wreck with offensive.
  7. Which is why my preference is for them to just come to an agreement for the "WGN games" and let Fox and Comcast/NBC plus potential wild cards battle it out for the whole enchilada when the time is right. It's a gamble they could take and one I can easily see the case you're making for, but I have no problem with them locking it in right now if the money is right. It might also mean getting more for the WGN games in the meanwhile, before the other new revenue streams are going. This is exactly my thought process. If they can sign a longer term deal, say 10 years, that guarantees Fox the rights after the Comcast deal expires, it might be worth more to Fox in the near term to get the long term guarantee. That's a big deal in my eyes since there seem to be so many restrictions on how much they can spend out of what account right now. Getting a little less down the road isn't as big of a deal because in theory you'll have completed renovations, have less spending restrictions due to the Zell deal, have a better team with increased ticket/concession revenues, and have the renovation ad revenue in place as well. Cash now is a huge deal to progressing as quickly as possible and the longer term dollars are going to be there if they have the capital to make the necessary investments now.
  8. I would think it would be worthwhile to set up some sort of agreement where there's a balloon of the fee once Fox can run with a cable network and they might be willing to pay a premium up front to guarantee they get those rights after the Comcast deal expires. Like a 10 or 12 year deal worth $X million through 2019 and then they pay $3-4X million per year after that.
  9. I have no idea what you're trying to say here. What is the 2+2=3 thing? Are you really expecting those guys to get like $20MM a year? There's no way Tanaka gets less than maybe $18MM if you include the posting fee with all the competition for him.
  10. Refs benched Hammons for you Not one of those 3 fouls was even a questionable call. I think his 3rd was pretty questionable. That's the one they called him going over Bertrand. There wasn't a whole lot of contact there. Plus, like any game, they missed calls against Illinois as well. Bertrand I think it was who was on a fast break and carried like a mofo, etc. The refs aren't the reason Illinois lost. Hammons ate Egwu's lunch and missing the front end of three 1-1's was a huge blow. If you read the post right above the one Bob quoted, I say exactly that. They didn't deserve to win and the officiating had little/nothing to do with the outcome.

  12. Abrams takes awful shots and makes bad decision with the ball in the lane, Bertrand forgot how to play basketball last night, missed free throws, and that game wouldn't have been near as close as it was if Ekey hadn't hit a couple threes he shouldn't even have been shooting. All around pathetic. And Hammons travels every time he touches the ball in the post and doesn't ever get called for it.
  13. Yeah, if they're leaking things I would think they're setting themselves up to bolt after the 5 year mark for sure. Not sure why they would need to set themselves up for that. They can just walk away after 5 years. A whole bunch of reasons, first and foremost to make it look like it's not their fault if there isn't a bunch of winning going on at that point.
  14. Yeah, if they're leaking things I would think they're setting themselves up to bolt after the 5 year mark for sure.
  15. I'm rooting for the 49ers. I can't stand Carroll and for whatever reason, probably the ex-Bear factor, I love Harbaugh and his I really don't give a damn what you think this is how I'm doing things attitude.
  16. Well, I went with gut feeling, but this makes me feel a lot better about voting for CJ.
  17. I've gone out of my way to see the guy play in person. I'm well aware of who he is, but not dressed in a baseball uniform and in a random shot on a snowy Wrigley Field, I kind of thought it was probably him but wasn't close to sure. And I had no idea who the dude with the bu font was.
  18. Or at least, asked nicer. Well, it was the 2nd time today somebody posted a random picture of Cubs minor leaguers and of the 5 guys pictured, I could identify 1 because his name was visible on his jersey. Yes, I certainly could have been more polite about it.
  19. It could reveal a source or something that he doesn't want to expose and lose what info he does get. I don't think it's all that weird of a way to put it.
  20. Well, obviously, but idk I'd just think that if you cared enough about the Cubs to post here you probably at least googled the hope of the franchise at least once. Also, he's usually wearing a hat in every picture and he's kinda not in this one.
  21. You know, when you guys post pictures like that, it'd be really helpful to tell us who the hell the people in it are. Not all of us immediately recognize everyone in the entire organization. Thanks!
  22. Some guy, like a random caller with an idea, or some guy, like a new LB coach? A reporter type who seemd to have a clue. Don't remember the name. It was in the 11:00 hour if you want to look for it.
  23. That was a pick 3 vote and this is a pick 1 vote.
  24. McNeil and Speigel just had some guy on that said Shea and Bostic are going to compete for the SAM LB spot in camp next year. That seems like a really terrible idea considering Shea gets blown to bits trying to play the run.
