I don't think we need to do an autopick. Just pick a time (I'm still leaning toward an afternoon, esp Sat or Sunday) for a live draft. Anyone who can't make it can pre-rank and their team will be auto-picked. That's how live drafts usually work. That would also be fine with me. I'd have to prerank if we wait until the weekend, but as long as no one minds me playing matchups off the waiver wire everyday, that's fine with me. Why would you have to play matchups if we auto-pick? If we all autopick, I wouldn't. If most of us live draft and I autopick, I'm inevitably going to end up with a subpar player at one or two positions.

I'll be in Cincinnati that night (to see the Cubs play the next day), so a board draft would be unpossible for me. I could live with an autopick if we all have time to prerank.

Ianetta is pretty highly regarded as a catching prospect and is worth using as a starter right now. I'm just surprised they didn't want lopez as a backup. Yep. Iannetta is ready.

I'll be in Cincinnati for opening day next weekend. I don't have any meetings scheduled at work this week, so if we don't do the draft tomorrow night, I can be free any time until Thursday night.

It's based on when they passed rookie qualification. So even though Bay appeared in 2003, he didn't have more than 130 AB's. Therefore, 2004 was his "rookie" year of eligibility for the league. Rios was technically in the majors in 2003, but didn't even have a PA. I get that, but Bay and Rios each played full seasons in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Rule #2 reads like this: 2.) Players with less than three years experience will be points-exempt. Should it read like this? 2.) Players with three years experience or less will be points-exempt. Unless that's the case, I don't see how Bay and Rios are exempt.

Shouldn't Jason Bay on Buckner's roster be points eligible? 2007 will be his fourth year in MLB. Same for Alex Rios.

Thanks, Tim. I've cut some position players, but I'll have to make a decision between Rollins and Jones. I'll start cutting pitchers after I run another set of projections. Elvis Andrus doesn't cost you anything to keep and he's a pretty promising prospect. I'm not sure why you cut him, but I'd recommend adding him back to your roster. I can take care of that if you like. I'd appreciate it. I didn't realize I had cut him, so it must have been an accident.

Do you have Excel? I can forward you a roster planning spreadsheet that does all the calcs. Feel free to send the spreadsheet. Thanks. This league's scoring is so different from any other I'm in that it will take me a few hours to do some projections, but once I'm done I'll start dropping players. One rule question: In the rules thread, it says: 2.) Except in the case of injury, the active roster is set on a weekly basis - no daily adjustments to play matchups But the league settings allow for daily lineup changes: "Lineups may be set daily up to 30 minutes before gametime." Did this league change from weekly to daily lineups?

The interesting question is: why would an extra off day benefit Prior? All the research shows that for the majority of MLB pitchers, there's no discernible health or performance benefit from pitching on four days rest instead of three days rest. I'm sure the same would hold true for five days rest vs. four days rest. Physically small guys like Pedro Martinez or older pitchers might be exceptions to the above. A lot of managers, Dusty Baker included, seem to believe that giving a guy an extra day off after having him throw too many pitches in a start makes up for the high pitch count. In the earlier part of this decade, Boston used to give Pedro extra days off and then trot him out for 130+ pitches. That was stupid.

Hell just froze over. He's was drawing walks just fine until Dusty got ahold of him. The difference between his AVG and OBP has never been Neifi-like, but that's not saying much. Haven't you heard, Neifi is a new man this year... Neifi's spring BA: .344 Neifi's spring OBP: .476 :shock: It looks like he's following Omar Vizquel's career path. I wonder if we could get him back?

Only 22 qualified batters saw fewer pitches per plate appearance than Ronny last year, including notorious freeswingers Vlad Guerrero and Jeff Francoeur. That couldn't have been all Dusty. Ronny's a weird player right now, but I think he will end up being a useful bench player.
