  1. i agree w/ this, except that soriano HAS shown changes in production when he's moved up and down the order. I would normally say bat him 5th, but his production is vastly superior from the leadoff spot than it is from other places with roughly a season's worth of PAs. Correlation does not equal causation. If there's a reason or number of reasons why Soriano had success hitting first, then by all means, he should hit first. I'm just not sure what those reasons would be.
  2. In fairness to Marquis, guys with electric stuff tend to walk people. Nolan Ryan had several seasons in which he walked 4 batters or more per game. I'm still wondering where Marquis' 20K game is. Now that Rothschild has fixed his mechanics, I'm expecting a 14K game by the break.

  4. What a concept. Why didn't we think of that? Taking pitches is not very manly. For example: JD Drew = sissy
  5. It wasn't that way pre-TJ surgery. I'm glad we signed him after that. What was the title of the Maddux trade thread? "Maddux traded for arthritic, injured crap"?
  6. I don't know. Is he wearing a half-shirt?
  7. Jacque hits the ball on the ground very often. He was 4th among all qualified batters last year in ground ball percentage. If he hits second against righties, get used to some GIDPs. Of course, the other option for the 2 spot, Murton, was 3rd among all qualified batters in GB%.
  8. We're gonna go on a 3 man rotation, eh? Zambrano can handle it. No, not a three man rotation. :) But you don't have to go very far back in baseball history to find a time in which there were no set rotations and managers often matched up pitchers against teams they had done well against in the past.
  9. Lou should have skipped Marquis. Really. It doesn't take a genius to guess that the Astros' 2-4 hitters are going to pound Marquis.
  10. Which teams, aside from the small market teams that have no other choice, do that? St. Louis & Anaheim, two teams that perpetually have top 5 bullpens in baseball. Other than Izzy, I can't think of a single FA those guys have gone on the market for and signed to big money contracts. Now, Anaheim extended Shields with pretty big money, but they found him for minimum dollars initially. Minnesota's bullpen last year was about as good as it gets. Nathan was the only guy making more than $1m, IIRC, and most were making around league minimum.
  11. Spending all that money on relievers before last season = stupid.
  12. I guess its just cause Barrett is resting today and he wanted Matt in the 5 spot? Because Lou woke up stupid?
  13. My appreciation level for Lou just dropped a notch. And it's not like Izturis has ever had success against Sheets.
  14. It's less than 300 miles from Nashvegas.
  15. The Cubs generally mail out tickets in order of game dates. Tickets for games in April and May are shipped before those later in the season. It could be May or June before August tickets are delivered.
  16. I went to opening day at GABP. The Kent Mercker video segment was the best part of the day.
  17. Please do not give up more runs today, Mr. Eyre.
  18. Yes, we need FIRE! and INTENSITY! Fixed. You forgot the inexplicable exclamation point in the middle of the sentence. I'm so proud right now.
  19. He got lifted for Theriot, because Cubs used Theriot to steal 2nd base for the go-ahead run. It was a good move in my opinion. This is the same guy that ran into an out at 3rd, right? Maybe it was a good move, but Murton's a pretty good hitter and not exactly Cecil Fielder when it comes to speed. Did we really need to burn through another hitter on our already rather short bench for that? I vote no. Murton would have clogged up the basepaths.
  20. Note to Lou: Ronny's OBP and SLG are both significantly higher vs. righties. Floyd would be a better bet vs a lefty than Cedeno.
  21. I like the lineup. Derosa should sit versus righties, and Floyd, in a very small sample size, has hit Arroyo very well.
  22. Me, too. I signed up because the draft was scheduled for last Sunday night. Then the draft got moved to this weekend, and, like a good Cubs fan, I'm taking my family to Cincinnati for opening day, so Saturday night won't work for me. This is the only time I'll gripe about it, but the team I inherited has many holes to fill (very little in terms of young keepable talent). Sportsline's ranking tools are the worst I've ever seen. I ranked 50 players, but that took hours, and I don't have time to rank any more. If my team doesn't finish last, you guys aren't very good.
  23. Prediction: I get hassled by a drunk Cincinnatian for wearing a Cubs hat at GABP.
