  1. Earl Weaver's book - Weaver on Strategy - is my favorite baseball book.
  2. Killjoy. Are you in Nashville, Bruce? If so, you should try Prince's Hot Chicken Shack if you ever get a chance to leave the hotel.
  3. And I'd rather have herpes than syphilis.
  4. Are you talking about the Victor Diaz who plays for the Texas Rangers?
  5. but it's like hearing how Andrew Jones is such a great defender. I think he's so lazy he just jogs as fast as he has to, to make a diving play. http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/charts/leaders2-0507.gif
  6. One of the regular contributors at BP did a multi-part study on this topic earlier this year. I'll see if I can find it.
  7. According to the Fielding Bible, he was the 2nd best defensive CF in MLB last year, ahead of Crisp et al. Just sayin.
  8. Bill Plaschke and Jay Mariotti are members of the BBWAA. Just sayin.
  9. To be fair, according to the Fielding Bible, Hanley was the second-worst defensive infielder in MLB last year, behind only the historically bad Ryan Braun. Hanley was worse than Derek Jeter. Rollins was probably worth slightly more than Hanley because he was an above-average defensive shortstop and Hanley was a wretched one. According to BP's stats, for example, Rollins was probably worth half a win more. But he was still not a good choice.
  10. When you say Cabrera "isn't all that good," do you mean you think he's unlikely to reproduce his 2007 season? Because he was the best shortstop in the AL last year by WARP3, barely edging out Young and Jeter.
  11. I don't know of any studies comparing 4 and 5 days rest, but there have been convincing studies showing no performance/injury difference in a 4-man rotation vs. a 5-man rotation. Didn't those studies actually show there were less injuries when using a 4 man rotation? Yes, although the difference was so small as to not be statistically significant.

  13. Well there's the biggest problem in your life, you have Directv. What are you talking about? I love having rain interfere with my TV reception. I've had DirecTV and cable, and bad weather affects my cable connection more often that rain or snow affected my satellite connection.
  14. Michael, I thought Jacque Jones in centerfield would be a disaster. What happened?
  15. I just checked Y! If we want the draft Sunday, it has to be at 10 am EDT. Otherwise, we can do basically anytime any day after that. Apparently all other times this weekend are booked. 10 am/9 am on Sunday work? I'd really like to get this thing done before we get another week into the season. Definitely can't do that time on Sunday morning, but I can prerank.
  16. I'll keep Arenas, Camby, McGrady.
  17. It should.
  18. Very doubtful. If Paciolan just used Akamai, like Tickets.com does, this wouldn't have been a problem.
  19. I'm interested in joining if new teams are added.
  20. Put Josh Johnson back in after a long rain delay.
  21. http://www.firejoemorgan.com/ Currently the third article on the page.
  22. Yes, he did. Yes...he did.
  23. I only use IE for the VWR with most of the unnecessary advanced browser options disabled. Blocking all the graphics on the VWR screen makes pages load faster and uses fewer resources, allowing you to have more windows open.
