  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opportunity_cost Kevin Goldstein ranks Soto as the third-best catching prospect in the minors. Mid-season ZIPS projections predict Soto would outhit Kendall for the rest of the year. By trading for the second-worst catcher in all of MLB this year, the Cubs forgo the opportunity to give Soto at-bats.
  2. Hi! I've got a pair of bleacher tickets for Cubs/Cards on Friday, August 17, and I've also got a pair for Sunday, August 19. I'd like a pair of tickets for the 18th - I'd prefer something in the 400 level, but I'd be open to other trades. I want to give the tickets to a secretary at my workplace. She and her husband are going to celebrate their 30th anniversary in Chicago, and she wants to take him to a Cubs game. Feel free to respond in the thread or via PM. Mods, if this post should be in a different forum, feel free to move.
  3. I'm in 18 leagues. Yes, 18. I'm first out of 12 teams in 7 leagues. I'm first out of 14 teams in 1 league. I'm first out of 16 teams in 1 league. I'm second out of 12 teams in 1 league. I'm third out of 12 teams in 2 leagues. I'm fourth out of 12 teams in 1 league. I'm fourth out of 14 teams in 1 league. I'm fifth out of 12 teams in 2 leagues. I'm 6th out of 10 in 1 league. I'm 7th out of 10 in 1 league. All of those are head-to-head. After drafting, I don't spend much time on my teams at all. I set my lineups every morning (which takes about ten minutes), and if a player is seriously injured, I'll make a trade or hit the waiver wire. My job involves predictive modeling, so one of the reasons I play fantasy baseball is to see which projection systems work best and why.
  4. Tipoff that this story is a lie: no way would you talk to a girl. :)
  5. I like seeing this kind of aggressiveness. John Dewan has noted in the past that batting averages are highest on the first pitch of an at-bat.
  6. He's a career .298 hitter and an All-Star. He'll come around.
  7. I'd like to see Aramis use the whole field. Why does he try to pull everything?
  8. Only rookies crap their pants, and then it's usually only in pressure situations. Lilly is a seasoned vet. I guarantee there is no fecal matter in his pants.
  9. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=6472 This article makes me so mad. Has Kahrl actually seen Kendall play? How can she know whether he'll be good or not for the Cubs just by looking at a bunch of numbers? Typical stat monkey article written by someone who still lives in her parent's basement.
  10. What does our offensive production have anything to do with QS's? The only reason Z came out after 5 IP was because of the 9-0 score. A pitcher has to go 6 innings with 3 or fewer runs to get a quality start. I guess next time Lou should tell his players to stop scoring so that Z can chase a meaningless statistic. cubs offense is so selfish JESUS, I was just pointing out a fact No, you weren't. A quality start has to do with the number of runs a pitcher allows, not the number of runs his own team scores.
  11. I think it's fair to directly compare Kendall and Aramis. Both are former Pirates. Both are right-handed hitters. This is never going to end is it? Not until the end of the season, when the Cubs finish out of the playoffs and Hendry reprises his 2006 mantra: "I just can't put my finger on what went wrong."

  13. So what if Ward ties the game and we go into extras and Hill gets hurt. Who is our third catcher?
  14. A negative nabob would note that things are setting up for Kendall to make the last out.
  15. So much overreaction in this thread. But that's what game threads are for.
  16. Atleast with Barrett you would get the occasional home run with Kendall that just is not going to happen. Kendall has two HR this year playing in a very pitcher-friendly park. If he had played the whole season with the Cubs, he'd probably be in double digits now. Hah, I forgot you were being sarcastic for a second. Not so hard to believe, really. Especially since Perry will be working with him. Maybe he'll have Kendall add a little loft to his swing and turn all those doubles into HR.
