  1. I went ahead and did it. I don't live in Wilmette anymore, though, so I may not be able to go to all the games. If I can't make it to a game, I'll let people here know before I turn to stubhub.
  2. wrong. No, you're wrong. He's lucky he played in the era of the all glove, no hit SS. He's probably one of the most overrated players of all time. No. If anything, he's underrated now due to contemporary emphasis on SS offense.
  3. According to Dewan's Fielding Bible, he was the second-worst defensive CF in baseball last year, so he probably shouldn't have lasted this long out there.
  4. There's a lot of talk suggesting that the Indians may switch Cabrera and Peralta next year. The Indians hate Peralta's defense at SS.
  5. While I completely agree with you regarding that with or without they aren't going to the playoffs, it wasn't like he traded those guys for a one year rental. He saw value and he got it. He'll have Swisher locked down for cheap for a while and he should gain a lot of perceived value playing in that park. KW could possibly flip him for better pitching prospects in the future. Although his Dye blunder makes that unlikely. Even with Gio and De Los Santos they aren't going to be a playoff contender. I say good trade because he got value IMO. Swisher will be under a favorable contract for a while, but unless the Sox make some more moves it probably won't matter much. Right now they have a "win now" type of team in a division they can't win, and with no minor league system to speak of, they're probably in for a drop off in performance unless they spend a lot in free agency. In a vacuum I think it's a good trade for Chicago, but it's a move in a direction they shouldn't be going. My thoughts exactly. This trade will probably help them finish ahead of the Royals this year, and it might give them a shot at Minnesota, but there's no way they finish ahead of Detroit and Cleveland.

I just don't see Swisher's skills aging well. He has a great contract, but he may very well begin his decline before the contract is up. We'll see.
  7. Pretty bad trade for the White Sox. It's bad baseball to make a move that takes you from a 72-win team to a 78-win team. They should be selling their veterans for players like the ones they gave up. Sox fans should dislike the trade, but not for the reasons they've been expressing.
  8. And he's very consistent. The Cubs could use some consistency.
  9. I won 13 leagues, placed second in 9, and placed third in 12.
  10. The Cubs offered a one-year deal with a team option for a second year. If I were Prior, I would have turned down that offer, too. Maybe you are Prior. :-k I'm Carlos Zambrano. I spend most of my time posting on NSBB and chatting with my brother.

  12. HAHAHA! Mark Prior THROWS TOWELS! In Simulated Games!!
  13. Good thing you aren't my girlfriend. What's your problem with children?
  14. You know that bad things can happen when you put the ball in play, right? For example, because Theriot makes contact so often, he cost the Cubs 5 double plays more than the average MLB player would have made last year. Soriano, on the other hand, was better at avoiding double plays than any other Cubs starter (unless you want to count Felix Pie). There is a demonstrable negative correlation between strikeout rate and double play rate. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=292385
  15. Stl... Will Carroll has suggested that Duncan might be good for Prior. I'm skeptical. He's done so well with Prior lite... Yeah, but Carp's injury a few years ago was very similar to Prior's. And Larussa/Duncan have been pretty smart about how they've used Carp.

  17. That depends on what you consider a "full season." He was in the top 10 in innings pitched in 2003, and he was in the top 8 in total pitches. Heck, in 2005 he was #39 in total pitches. Prior might still be going strong if, say, Ron Gardenhire were manager instead of Baker. Johan Santana has consistently been in the top 25 in MLB in total pitches, but he's always in the middle of the pack when it comes to pitcher abuse points. If I were Prior, I would feel no loyalty for a club that used me in such a way as to damage my body and limit my ability to earn a living in the future. Dusty Baker likely cost Prior millions of dollars. Exploratory surgery indicated that Prior had probably been pitching hurt since 2003: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/04/26/under.theknife/index.html?eref=si_mlb
  18. It has? I'd like to see the source of this, as the few articles I've read that claim to prove this were so specious and riddled with flawed logic it's laughable. But you may be referring to a different study than the ones I've seen, in which case I'd be interested in seeing them. If anything, "protection" has been shown to have a slight (probably not statistically significant) negative effect. The hypothesis is that the pitcher exerts more effort to get an out if there's a good hitter on deck. There's at least two good studies out there. I've linked to them many times on this board.

  20. I really think Tejada is being moved to 3B.
  21. * Note that the Orioles were marketing Tejada to other teams as a 3B at the winter meetings. As a SS, his offense as nice. As a 3B, not so much. * Do the Astros really think they're in a position to win now? Really?
  22. It hasn't even been proven that HGH has any helpful effect for a baseball player. Players who use it intend to cheat, but it's about as helpful as pine tar on a bat.
  23. So how's that team working out for you now?
