  1. No, you wouldn't. He'd have no arm for two days, and if forced to make many throws, he'd be an absolute monster liability, not to mention a major injury risk on days he did pitch. This kid is Rick Ankiel... except he can really pitch. Why did we not sign him?!? Seriously, if he were in the AL, he'd hit for himself on several teams, and he might DH on days he didn't pitch.
  2. Okay, but please don't screw me and do this deal just before the roster deadline, as I am on my way out of town and do not have wireless in my car.
  3. You, sir, have an offer.
  4. I'll make the offer "official" tonight. I have other thoughts, as well. I will PM you...
  5. Gotcha. INteresting offer, and once I know how many keepers we get to carry into next year, I will know if that is worth it or not. I'll get back to you shortly.
  6. I already did. He's selling his house and has been busy.
  7. Just curious. Not trying to be "participation police", but the guy has 3 starters who are on the DL, and a reserve who is actually in the minors, and never responds to a trade offer. Anybody know what the deal is with him?
  8. Bruce Pearl dismissed Junior PG Ramar Smith and Junior PF Duke Crews today. Wonder if either- or both- could end up at IU?
  9. What on earth has Cedeno done to convince you that he will be above average?
  10. Of course, 6 in a row is the state of actual football in Alabama, no?
  11. CAUTION: Small sample size alert... Career at Wrigley Field: .200/.259/.400 for an OPS of .659 I'm just saying... Khalil Greene hasn't matched up well at all with our pitching staff over that time, either. We have had a bunch of wild strikeout pitchers, and Greene is a free swinger who strikes out a lot. Not much surprise that his numbers at Wrigley wouldn't be good. EDIT: A cursory glance at the numbers shows he has been even worse against the Cubs at Petco. True, but strikeouts aren't the entire reason why. He only has 20 K's in 4 years against the Cubs (1 for every 5 AB's, whereas he has 1 per 4.7 against everyone else) and a BABIP of .213. (For the record, his avg against Cubs pitching over that time is .170, and he's hitting .140 against Cub pitching at Petco.) So, he has put more balls in play against the Cubs than he does the rest of the league, on average. He just sucks even when he does.
  12. CAUTION: Small (though not quite as small) 56 PA? Oooppss... It's late.
  13. April OPS last 4 years... 2007: .829 2006: .712 2005: .666 2004: .824 What does it all mean? Maybe nothing (without knowing the parks he played in during each April, it's pretty tough to truly compare), but he's off to his slowest start by far as a major leaguer.

  15. Well, his OPS is .570. That is astonishingly bad.
  16. Yep. 1st time in his 14 year career. I'm not hiding that fact. It's 15 days out of the season...

    Goony?

Is he not even bothering anymore?
  18. Looking for a minor leaguer or a draft pick in the 4th or 5th round.
  19. any team will trade any player to any other team for the right price Yep. I'd want Marmol, Hill, Gallagher and another prospect if I were the Stro's. Marmols out of the question. I dont care whose on the table. What?!? Why? That's absurd.
  20. I'm guessing the third pitcher the Astros would ask for would be Rich Hill. I'd still do it Perhaps, but if the Cubs have to eat a majority of the contract, then it's a must the Cubs get a Ceda like prospect with Oswalt. Gallagher/Marshall and Hill is worth more to the Cubs then Roy Oswalt. If the Cubs are built to win now, then no, they aren't. But do you HONESTLY think Houston would trade Oswalt to the Cubs? I realize teams needs to stop looking at trade within their division as taboo, and start thinking it about your rival helping you LATER. Now, I would trade all three of Hill/Marshall/Gallagher. Hill or Marshall would have to be taken out of the deal, and replace with perhaps two decent prospects (Colvin and.......). Honestly, I don't think the Astros will trade Oswalt for anyone. However, he has already said that he wants to retire at the end of this contract (2011) and the Astros will not win anything this year or next, and an Oswalt trade (along with a Berkman trade) could net them a great young group of players. Honestly, for Oswalt and Berkman, I'd give them Patterson, Colvin, Marmol, Hill, Murton, AND Gallagher. Z, Oswalt, Lilly, Dempster, and Marquis would be solid. Soriano, Fukudome, Lee, Berkman, ARam, Derosa, Soto, Cedeno? Yeah, that would absolutely rock.

  22. Keeper. Sleeper. Keeper as in a player that may not be an awesome fantasy player this year but has a good shot of being one in the future. Sleeper as in a player that not many people would expect to be good and thusly would be available via the waiver wire. Sorry, but to define the term "sleeper" and including Jay Bruce seems a bit odd to me. He is, after all, the TOP prospect in baseball. Not so sure that the term sleeper applies here.

Why would you make the deal? Well, Hawpe and Berkman had nearly identical years last year, and I included a Top 10 pitching prospect (#8, to be exact). Doesn't seem that far fetched to me. Buck, maybe, but some people like his toolsiness and exemptions. Hey, you never know until you try.
