  1. Where have I heard that before? Looks like the Masterbatter blew his wad last week. ](*,) I mean it this year. I have so few players to drop, and I have some draft picks. Now if I can just use them wisely. And this year, no way I draft a Cliff Lee in the 15th round and then proceed to drop him. :banghead:
  2. Congrats, Stitch! Enjoy the offseason, becasue I will be taking that throne next year!
  3. BTW, is there a date by which these players become fair game? Not that I really have room, but I could certainly try to fine a spot or two...
  4. i don't think anyone has been talking illinois up to be anything other than what they are. this I-L-L stuff is what we do, i have no idea how that constitutes being cocky or needing to be humbled. we got beaten by a better team, period. however, i still think the rest of the big ten is in trouble when it comes to playing the us. Actually, SSR was quite cocky, and is the sole reason I enjoyed seeing Illinois lose. Typically, I don't care one way or another about Illinois, but seeing really obnoxious fans get humbled is fun. i haven't seen ssr write anything that i would consider cocky. we like our football team and we have a good one. it hasn't happened often and we like to see our team win, we will discuss it on this board. fans talk about their teams all the time, and quite frankly, the illini fans are a lot less in-your-face than pac-10 or sec fans. Who, pray tell, are the "in-your-face" SEC fans here? Meph was, sure, but everyone else I have seen has been far above the "SEC mouthbreathers" comment about 8 or so pages back. Even Red Flash (a Bammer, no less) has been quite respectable. For that matter, who are the in-your-face Pac 10 fans? I really can't say that I have ever seen one.

  6. Dew... How about Gerald Williams getting cleared today to play? HUGE news. Also, I read this a little bit ago, and thought I'd pass it along. If this is the attitude of this team, 2008 could be a special year... That, from Brent Hubbs of Volquest.
  7. What's funny about the smack talk is that SSR is the exact person he whines about during basketball season. It's pretty comical, actually.
  8. Clarification, mooch. Of the players recently added, not many have been picked up. Since they are currently off waivers, does that mean that guys who were not added are now free agents? If we're going by the rule you set, then they should be. However, the bitching and whining that would occur if you allowed anyone to pick any of those guys up would be epic. Any way to set a date on that, and allow the unpicked players to either become free agents or to go into next year's draft pool? I don't want poeple to lose their draft picks, but the level of attention to this has been astoundingly low. It's like poeple just lose interest after the trade deadline, which is another issue in itself.
  9. I drafted Brian Matusz? Okay, totally forgot about that one.
  10. And nevermind the fact that half the board is not from Chicago.
  11. :yahoo: Awesome, awesome news! I love Warren's ability and he'll definitely help our offense out. I'm drooling just thinking about him and Aaron Douglas on the field at the same time soon. That might be a long wait. Douglas still has not practiced with full contact, and if Cottam is able to get healthy, Aaron would at best be a 4th stringer. I'd imagine a redshirt this year, so maybe next year or Warren's Sr year, but I doubt it happens this year at all. Still, great news for UT. Yeah, soon was a bad word. I figured Douglas would redshirt this year (especially with Warren in the fold) and was thinking forward to next year. A Warren/Cottam duo would be really nice, though. Agreed. THough, with Cottam out due to injury (can the Cottam's catch a stinking break?!?) it sounds like Luke Stocker is turning heads. It will be nice to have 3 legitimate threats at TE. Sounds like the Clawfense might look at some H-Back stuff, like we did with Chris Brown. Now that Warren is in the fold, I'm thinking 34-10 UT. (Okay, I don't really expect to win by 24, but I can certainly hope, can't I?)

  13. Yo, doobie-doobie-dew... Just saw that Brandon Warren won his appeal. Tennessee's offense just got much more potent.
  14. I believe that in time, you will never have to wonder if Duke has a legit shot to beat teams like JMU. Once Cut gets some players, Duke will be respectable. I doubt he'll ever compete for ACC Championships (unless he brings in another Manning), but he'll make Duke respectable. I only question how long he stays.
  15. As am I, dew. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Berry, Morley, Willingham, and Vinson do against UCLA's 3rd stringer. 27-13, UT. (One score is on defense or special teams.) Eric Berry may come close to Peyton Manning and Al Wilson as my favorite Vols of all time the way he's going. I think the score will be a bit larger, probably closer to 35-14. It'll be close at the half, but UCLA's D will tire out because of no offensive help. Plz go easy on us. I'll see that Fulmer gets the message. :D The scrimmage tonight is very encouraging. Crompton played very well, Poole is apparently about to pass Creer on the depth chart, and Gerald Williams will be the starting at Mike by Florida. I may revise my prediction later. I am amazed at the confidence many Bruin fans are displaying on various websites, especially with no true starting QB, and only one returning starter in the defensive backfield. The one place I would say that have an advantage over TN would be on the DL. Every other position has to be a UT advantage, IMO. Perhaps Chow and Neuheisel put together a game plan that keeps the Bruins in this one, but I still see a fairly easy UT win.

  17. Two thoughts (one old and one new)... Expansion. Seriously. We could use 2-4 new players to spice things up. Later trade deadline. We can use the MLB Trade Deadline excuse, but good players continue to get moved before the waiver deadline, and since we don't have one of those, it would be nice to be able to deal as long as MLB teams get to deal.
  18. I'm not sure that is still the way waiver claims are made, at least according to this: Not sure if it's right or not.
  19. Dealing Lilly and Marquis and replacing them with Sabathia would be fine by me. Cot's shows an intriguing list of free agents, one of whom is Carl Crawford. He has an option (not specified whether it is team or player), but I would love to see him in CF next year.
  20. If the Cubs won the World Series, I would not expect the Cubs to make major moves. Cubs started the season at $118M Zambrano gets a 2.75M raise Ramirez gets a 1.65M raise Soriano gets a 3M raise Lilly gets a 5M raise Fukudome gets a 5.5M raise Marquis gets a 3.5M raise DeRosa gets a 750K raise Harden will get a 3.5M raise if option is picked up Gaudin will probably get a 1M raise in arbitration Thats 25.65M in salary added right there Dempster is a FA and if the Cubs try to resign him, he's going to make significantly more than the 5.5M he made this year. Kerry Wood after a All Star mostly successful year as closer will want significantly more money than the 1.75 (+ incentives) he received this year. Howry (4M) is off the books, Edmonds (insignificant) is off the books, Lieber (3.5M) is off the books, Reed Johnson (1.3M) is off the books, Ward (1.2M is off the books) Blanco has a 3M option (made 2.8M in 08) That's 20.05M lost off the books The rest of the team is making under 1M and mostly under arbitration and won't get more than 300-500k in raises (I think) Meaning our payroll will roughly be at 123.60M for 17 players. You are then missing a reliever (can be filled in minors), number 3 starter (can resign Dempster for 10M or fill in minors), a closer (can use Marmol, fill in reliever spot in minors or resign Wood for lets say 5M guaranteed + incentives), a CF (both sides of the platoon), a LH bench player (Hoffpauir can fill this role), a backup catcher (can be found cheaply most likely) and a long reliever (not significant to speculate, but probably minors) Lets say the Cubs resign Dempster and Wood and fill the rest of the needs internally. That brings the payroll to roughly 140M, a raise of 22M just to reach status quo. Then throw into consideration the fact that the team's ownership will change hands during the offseason, I would think its completely unrealistic to suggest that the ballclub is improved with anything other then a possible trade. If the option is Dempster for 10M or Sabathia for 18M, I'll take Sabathia. (Granted, we'll need to see just how badly the Brewers abuse him the rest of the way.) Not that I don't like Dempster, but if you can get a Cy Young caliber lefty, you do it. Zambrano, Sabathia, Harden, and Lilly as your top 4? Dang.
  21. I don't even have to look to see who made you that offer. The People's Champ is my very educated guess. Sounds like he has quite the reputation. If you'll look (not too far) up, you'll see the "Merry Christmas" offer he made me. I'd say he has a reputation.

  23. why would you say that? it's not like dunn is getting hurt by playing his home games at the GABP, and most of his home runs go like 450 feet, which is a home run unless they've reopened the polo grounds. I don't understand your logic. Yes, his bombs go 450, so that would be a homer anywhere. It's the warning track shots that become homers that increase his numbers. 80 was hyperbole, I'd bet, but his numbers would improve there. Warning track shots in GABP are homers in YS, as the fence is 11 feet closer and 3 feet shorter there. RC power alley is also much shorter. Dunn would be a 50+ HR hitter there.
  24. :? Why did you call him out for his misspell of the word "buco", but not SSR for his of "perogative"? Inconsistent.
