  1. Why is that? Perception was he didn't like recruiting. He was never going to recruit well in Chicago what with the CPL being pissed about us not hiring Jimmy Collins. But, what people tend to forget is he recruited better at Illinois than Self did. Granted that was because of the downstate talent in that time period.
  2. Yeah you are right. But, let's say we landed Sherron Collins. How many minutes is Trent playing for us? In the late 90s early 2000's we were landing Sheron Collins. Now we aren't. Now Trent's a starter.
  3. they have very few passable players. that will change soon, though. My God I can't wait until all of those guys actually get there so we don't have to hear about the next 3 years and all of the studs you'll have every week. For like the last 2-3 years all Illinois fans talk about are guys who aren't even playing on the team. It was nothing but E.J. for how long, then last year and in the off season we heard about what a stud Legion was (that's turning out well) and how unstoppable you would be once you had him, young Derron Williams, Paul, Richardson, etc. I eagerly await the Illini reign of dominance just so you will actually discuss the present and not end every argument with "but we've got studs on the way." I feel like I'm in a warped discussion of the future of the Cubs with our farm system in 2002. You guys could be excited for the future as well. If you had any talent coming in. That and I love how a ranked team in the top 20 isn't at all relevant this year. Great point! Now show me where I said your team wasn't at all relevant this year. And wait, you actually have guys to be excited about? How is that possible? You ranted like a lunatic for 4 years that your coach was the worst recruiter in history and should be fired? Excellent prognostications indeed. You were eagerly awaiting us to discuss the present. Here you go, we should make the tournament this year. Being a team in Illinois you should. We have a ton of talent in our backyard to choose from. That's why we are a bubble type team, if Weber would have recruited well we would not be a bubble team. In the future he has recruited well, thus we will be better. Are you understanding that line of thinking? So yes I do think that Weber crapped the bed in recruiting the last few years. That's why we have Trent Meacham, a walk on, starting. On one of Self or Kruger's teams he might have played 5 minutes here or there as a zone buster. Sorry for expecting my coach to bring in the best the state has to offer every year and wanting to be competitive year in year out.

  5. What hat will he be wearing? http://tvbythenumbers.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/new_york_yankees_hat_1.jpg His plaque will start off saying "The first designated hitter to reach 500 HR" and will end with, "is very tired of fans confusing him for Eddie Munster."
  6. You're going to look so stupid when Robbie Hummell wins this thing. I still like Manny Harris, but his stats took a hit in the Purdue game when he got thrown out for being too talented and on the wrong team.

  8. at the half louisville 19 St. Johns 22 College basketball teams hate scoring don't they? Yep.
  9. I really like Greg Anthony. Wish he and Gus were paired together.

  11. Hey Bruce, McCamey cant sit or we have no offense.
  12. McCamey is an awful defender.
  13. I wonder if he thinks about testing the draft waters? 6'11" with game. He's not ready, but when has that ever stopped anyone before? I don't think he goes after this year, but his improvement over last year is big. Adding some weight and further improvement next year I think he's a first rounder. I don't think he should go yet, but I think he could be a first rounder this year. This draft is awful. You don't get Blake Griffin, Ricky Rubio, or Brandon Jennings and you don't get much.
  14. It'll pass.
  15. Close your eyes and tell yourself next year that will be Brandon Paul. And hen Meacham clanks a wide open jumper do the same with D.J. Richardson.
  16. I wonder if he thinks about testing the draft waters? 6'11" with game. He's not ready, but when has that ever stopped anyone before? plus he has "length" and "athleticism" and "upside" You just made Jay Bilas wet himself.

  18. Hey now Chester hit the rim on both of his free throws. \:D/
  19. I don't understand this at all. Brey has to be feeling a bit of heat. Every year it seems his teams underacheive. I'm not understanding how we came to his teams underachieving every year (he won back to back Big East coach of the year awards because his team did the exact opposite), but our abject refusal to play defense, ever, has clearly caught up with us. I guess it isn't every year, but his teams with Chris Thomas never did as well as they should have. This years team is easily a top 15 team, but they sure as hell are not playing like it. He seemed to do better with less talent during the Chris Quinn era. Yeah, I've had that thought before. I thought his best coaching job was just to keep his team from committing suicide in 2005-06, when he took a band of nobodies (led by Quinn) and they at one point were 1-8 in the Big East despite outscoring their conference opponents (they had a 27-point win and lost the 8 by a total of 24 points). I'm guessing there will be a little heat on him entering into 09-10. Part of it isn't his fault either. That conference is just ridiculous.

  22. Makes sense. You have NBA players on your roster. This is his near future. If he makes a team. Not in the post. Alfred Aboya, Nikola Dragovic and James Keefe were the primary guys who guarded him. Keep in mind Harangody put up 21 and 14 against UConn and 31 and 11 against Georgetown. I know he did. I also know he does that because he is their offense. Their team is a mess right now after being pretty good early on. I think like Andy said it's because they are trying to take away MAC on the perimeter. Thus Gdy is allowed to clean up. Still I don't think he is going to be much of a pro.
  23. Yeesh, what a mess that draft turned out to be. A few of those guys should be fine, but man, a number of them have just plummeted down the toilet. Keep going and Dustin Pedroia pops in. That helps out a bit.

  25. I mean Tate is there best player, but even when he was health they were picked to finish like 6th in the conference. Tate healthy though....you beat IU ha Matt Gatens is by far their best player.
