  1. The University of Illinois in Chicago isn't going to hire Jerrance unless the University of Illinois is ok with it. blocking howard from getting a head coaching job would be a huge mistake. Oh I agree, but I think if he goes it won't be like he isn't ever coming back. this is an incredibly unfortunate time to lose him, though. it seems like the illini get out of the [expletive], and then something miserable happens. Yeah this sucks if he goes he has really started in building relationships with the '13 kids.

  4. Do they like Alex Gordon? Nope, they absolutely hate him. So do a lot of the "uninformed" fans around KC. I keep trying to explain to them about how potential and give him time, but that doesn't work too well. I cheer for the Royals because they are in my hometown (Cubs are where my heart is), but I think so many years of utter disgusting baseball has finally driven some fans insane. They've been promised "We're rebuilding" way too many times by this point. My buddy argues he isn't Evan Longoria. I explain to him he's right, but you don't have Evan Longoria or anyone good playing third, so you might as well play Alex anyways. They hate him.
  5. Sorry I thought you were talking for only this year. My mistake.
  6. If you assume they have penciled Cashner into a relief role and are doing anything they can to get rid of Zambrano, they don't really have an abundance of starting pitchers. Silva is having a fluke year, Lilly is gone, Wells has hit a rough patch or two. Dempster is the only stable guy returning. Gorzo has been good for the Cubs but is in no way a lock for 200 innings of solid starting. You have some arms in the minors, but all of them have major question marks. The Cubs have 5 starters who have performed at an above average rate this year (Lilly included) They also have a guy with a better track record than all of them in the pen. They also have Cashner, Jackson, and Diamond as major league ready arms. Yes, if we're going to talk in the Cubs are [expletive] stupid terms, sure they might not be stocked enough because they'll turn Jay Jackson into a 3B and release Carlos Zambrano, but what is the point in talking about that. Well the Cubs like to carry 12 pitchers, and have talked about wanting 7 guys available for starting duty. If Lilly is gone and Zambrano is god knows what, they will be counting on a combination of Dempter, inconsistent track records and prospects to fill out a rotation. Who cares? At this point it is better to lose and get a better draft pick. Finishing .500 does us no good as a franchise.
  7. They are right, he has every right to block a trade. We also have every right to sit him then and start moving forward.
  8. Cubs will score 10+ with that lineup. It's a crappy lineup for sure, but I can recall a few times in the past where we've scored a bunch of runs with the "forfeit lineup". I remember the days when Dusty would pencil Macias, Perez, Hairston and Blanco into the same lineup. Ha. Here's another good one....Jose Macias (.444 OPS), Tom Goodwin (.460), Ramon Martinez (.605), Paul Bako (.582) in the same lineup. A team with those guys made the NLCS. Damn Wood and Prior were good.
  9. Northwestern really caught a bad break. They were for sure in with Coble.
  10. I'd love to get him. With the group we have we need a knock down shooter.
  11. Your suggestion is to trade a 20 year old, playing a premium position, hitting about .310 over his first 200 ABs? Because, of Lee? Lee is no where near the prospect Castro is. I understand Castro flew a bit under the radar, but the odds of him being as good are not good. The more interesting road block is going to be if Ramirez resigns and Vitters bat becomes ready for the majors. What do you do? The obvious solution is to put Vitters in LF, however, Money Bags is currently roaming over there and is not likely to be moved. Move Vitters to 1B? Trade him? Where do I say I want to trade Castro now? Young, .800 OPSing SS's are extremely valuable. If we have 2 of them at the major league level, dont just move one to 2nd. Get fair value and fill a need elsewhere. I don't think that Lee ever will be an .800 OPS player.
  12. So glad we have to curtail to that midget and play him no matter what. God forbid we hurt his feelings.
  13. That's the thing -- it was! Albert makes the parks look tiny, much like McGwire and Sosa did.
  14. As did I, I cannot believe they won on a day when they trotted out the lineup they did.
  15. They are trying to keep 3B open now for Moustakas. So they can repeat this process with him when he isn't A-Rod the first year he's up.
  16. Pujols? Lol. They stole McGwire and Rolen, but those weren't within division.
  17. Hopefully that doesn't mean we'd get crap prospects in return. I hope we don't get stuck with that Miguel Cabrera bum. You're in luck then.
  18. Hehe touche. Although they got swept, so that didn't really cost them anything but a chance in that one game.
  19. Yeah right, that type of crap doesn't happen to them. Yadier Molina won a League Championship Series with a homer for them.
  20. Me either. I really only hate Lee and Theriot. Even then, they don't hold a candle to outright jackasses like Todd Hundley and Jacque Jones. True, although the way Theriot piled on Milton when he left town was awful. Of course you being a crap player wasn't part of the problem was it Ryan?
