  1. is atdhe's website working for anyone?
  2. any chance ryno moves up to bench coach? i'm guessing they will lay out quade's coaches during the press conference, as well?
  3. I understand that NYC is a destination for Americans all over the country because of how dynamic it is, but I wouldn't have thought there would be enough Seattle transplants to make it possible to have a Seatte-centric bar. i thought the same thing! i asked my friend how crowded it gets and he said seahawks fans roll in about 75-100 deep on gameday.
  4. i was asked to go to a seahawks bar in the upper east side to watch today's game. i found a bears/cubs bar in brooklyn a few weeks back and have been going there for just about every game (can't beat the free chicago hot dogs during halftime), but i'll make due with a couple seahawks fans and free pizza at their bar during halftime.
  5. happened to tony gwynn in 1996. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/1996-batting-leaders.shtml i'll always remember the sportscenter episode where olbermann said "gwynn goes for the record books...and a calculator!," due to the explanation on how he won the batting title.
  6. i figure he'll play a season or two more, collect his 3,000 hits and call it a career.
  7. i found a great bears/cubs bar in brooklyn last sunday...the girls inside weren't too bad looking, either...made a good distraction to the bufoonery that was in prime display on the field.
  8. this is coming from the guy who has ichiro's name tattoo'd on his ass and joked about his wife divorcing him on national radio while the divorce proceedings were still going on. he's easy to laugh at and hard to take seriously.
  9. you need 500-506 ab to qualify for the batting title at the end of the season, correct?
  10. I don't think that would ever happen. I think Sandberg will leave the Cubs if he doesn't get the job, especially if the new manager is young. Sandberg sounds like he will take any path to a major league managerial position he can. If no one offers one this offseason and he feels that being a bench coach will get him faster to that goal, then he would take the job. He sounds to me like its manager or bust this season. He talked about being a AAA manager being higher up than a MLB bench coach. He's getting himself thrown out of games left and right and generally trying not to be the quiet nice guy he was as a player. I get the feeling he'd spurn the Cubs if they offered a bench coach spot but accept one elsewhere just to show he's serious. outside of the cubs and braves, who else will have a manager's seat open? how many of the interim managers right now will or will not be back with their respective teams?
  11. how would people feel about girardi to the cubs as coach and sandberg being his bench coach? btw, good to see bob dernier become 1st base coach the other day. he's a friend of my brother and he has had always good things to say about dernier.
  12. this is a great question. for those who have season tickets, what types of packages are available? if i were offered a season ticket package, i'm sure i could get a group of friends together to help pay for them.
  13. #7,995! can smell those upper deck reserved seats from brooklyn, baby!
  14. i was at a bar in brooklyn this morning watching it with all the tottenham fans in the area. absolute craziness during the first 45 minutes. some of the most exciting soccer i've seen in a while. i have liverpool/arsenal on tap for tomorrow morning @ nevada smith's.
  15. i was thinking about going, as well, but them i remember their piss-poor showing at citi field last month when i was in attendance and decided to change my mind. i'll catch the cubs again in person when i go back home to chicago for a weekend next month.
  16. this was a painful game to watch in person. z makes one mistake to reyes...guy with the highest obp sitting on our bench...no offense at all...half the stadium was empty...ugh. worst of all was the hot dog sold to me inside of a toasted piece of bread instead of a proper hot dog bun...wtf citi field?!
  17. i'll be at the game tonight (section 523). here's hoping that big z can have a solid outing and the cubs can actually score some runs. last night was god-awful. what was the attendance last night?
  18. you mean like when Derrek Lee put up similar ridiculous numbers in 05? that was 5 years ago..i'm talking about now (and more specifically, that sexy OBP).
  19. this sentence, i think, is the most interesting: "[McGwire's] own manager never knew that [Jose] Canseco and McGwire and anybody else ever had taken steroids? Trust me, from [a former player], I have a lot of insight into who did what and when but I'm not even going to talk about it. It really doesn't matter." you're not going to talk about other steroid users, but you feel ok mouthing off about mcgwire? if steroid users like big mac make him throw up, why didn't he say anything during his playing days about other players taking steroids? aside: jack clark's 1987 season is beyond ridiculous. i'd pray to multiple gods to have a cub put up those types of numbers.
  20. 143/180. couldn't spell rickey gutierrez or hee seop choi's name correctly and had matt stairs' mug in my head, but couldn't remember his name. early 90's teams were easy since i remember rooting for most of those bums every day after school. worse one? forgetting who started at 2nd in '07 and '08...
  21. good to see him be (for the most part) healthy and finally get a major league win. here's to him being healthier next season and being a top set-up man in our bullpen.
  22. they are in new york this weekend and i thought about going, but then i thought otherwise. wow, this season has been a dud. i did my cub fan duty and saw them twice in dc in july, so i'm not too bummed about it.
  23. It was Larry Himes. Sandberg hated him because of Sosa and the Cubs' new video room. He worships DG. yeah, sandberg has no love for larry himes as noted in his biography second to home. if my memory is correct (i haven't read the book in almost 5 years), he was pissed at himes for not re-signing dawson and letting maddux go to the braves. dallas green is the one who insisted that he be a part of the larry bowa trade, so sandberg has a lot of respect for green. sandberg is my all-time favorite baseball player, but his speech at the '05 HOF was just a "back in my day..." rant and him grinding his sammy sosa axe for 15 minutes. kinda disappointing to hear him rag like that on the biggest day of his professional baseball career (so far).
  24. weathers didn't like the way he was used/his role in the bullpen during his tenure with the cubs in 2001.
  25. i'm heading over to dc next weekend to catch the cubs and nationals on saturday evening. i'm looking to see if anyone knows of a good hotel that is near the park and cheap on $$$. we'll be staying one night, so nothing too fancy. i looked for a thread on this board that pertains to hotels, but could not find one. if this topic is in the wrong place, my apologies in advance.
