  1. I'm well beyond amazement and into infuriated now. I think I remember Lou saying that one things he wanted was a left handed bat he could leave in the middle of the line up against lefties. He seemed to think one the Cubs problems against lefties were to many right-handed batters in a row. The theory being it allows the pitcher to get to comfortable throwing to that many righties in row and get in a groove. Does anyone know if there is anything to Lou’s mad little theory.
  2. I get the example you are trying to make, but Cobb was a loose cannon with a horrible and violent disposition on occassion, just a plain old hick douche....Tyson is an uncontrollable lunatic. Another difference is their status in a purely sports context. Tyson isn't even in the top 50 in a list of top boxers ever, whilst Cobb is generally always regarded in the top 5. Tyson isn't in the list of top 50 boxers ever? Seriously? BTW, my comparison with George Wallace was only in the context of the end of their careers (suddenly opening up to non whites). Wallace is probably a worse person overall, as he "became" a racist in order to win votes. http://shoutfan.com/2007/05/15/the-top-50-boxers-of-all-time/ Tyson is number 50 on this list so he seems borderline top 50. I certainly do not know enough about the history of boxing to comment one way or another.
  3. Florida does not have state income tax that is why so many athletes live in Florida.
  4. The reason the press disagrees is that his lawyer said he did not cooperate. It really makes no sense for him to lie. If he did cooperate I assume that would be in the indictment. One the major things in the indictment is failed drug tests by Bonds. They will still have to prove that he knowingly took steroids though not just that he took them. Seems this is not going to be easy to prove.
  5. Acoording to his attorney he did not talk. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3112821
  6. The Toledo Mud Hens made Arod an offer this may be the deal breaker though. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3090231
  7. This seems a little fishy he gets hurt right after Guitar Hero 3 comes out. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3090054
  8. Dude you just ruined my day. P.S. Do you go to Marquette? If it's any consolation there was never really any chance that the O's would have actually made such a trade. Prior would never had passed a physical anyway.
  9. Bruce Levine is reporting that the renovation starts tomorrow 10/24.
  10. Looks like a two year deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3073963
  11. Looks like someone needs a robot wife.
  12. This makes absolutely no sense. What about if we chose Print at home tickets? You have to mail your printer back to them.
  13. Is it just me or does it feel like time has stopped. I'm way to geeked up for this.
  14. This is what amazed me from that article.
  15. Ted Lilly...slumpbuster. http://www.sonic.net/~ckelly/Seekay/dana_lilly.jpg HAWT. Hilarious. I think I would rather be in a slump.
  16. I would assume he died of old age. It really drives me crazy that reporters need to find a cause of death when someone dies at 85 or 90 years of age. yeah, but crossing that line -- making assumptions about details -- could lead to lazy and innacurate journalism, if it becomes a habit. Because we know the American media is so honest? Seems like the last thing we should allow an already slanted media is more leeway in the information reporting. To be honest, I always laugh (well, not the right word) when I see the "unknown causes" in these cases, too, FWIW :) Seriously, though. I'm too young to really appreciate the guy (I remember the Rizzuto bobbledhead on Seinfeld ;)), but he was clearly one of a kind. RIP. I believe it was a key chain that said holy cow. But that was what I thought of also.
  17. The old moronic idiot factor. 8-) There's little question in my mind that B&B let a few of the "good" idiots through just to have fun with them. It's sort of part of their schtick. And I think it does, as you suggest, get ratings if done right. I like intelligent callers, but what I don't care for are the prepared-script callers like what Rome does all show long. I can handle it for a segment or two, but not if all your callers have some prepped script that they think is incredibly brilliant, but 99% of the time is just more drivel. I agree the main problem I have with Band B is when they try to be funny I don't laugh. The best smart funny sports talk show was the old Kornheiser show on ESPN. I need to get XM so I can hear him again.
  18. In case you missed Rich Hill doing his Kip Dynamite impression. http://www.texas-gal.com/centerfield/2007/07/kip_visits_wrigley.html
  19. Add that to Lee, Floyd, and Dempster http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/baseball/marlins/sfl-mikeb10jun10,0,148706.column This may be why they are in favor of Cuban. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/players/04/25/inside.stuff0502/ I think they needed Cuban when Sammy was here.
  20. ESPN.com has highlights of the game with Lens call on their front page.
  21. Actually its eight in most homes today.
  22. For the sake of making salaries work I think Ben Wallace would have to be in any trade proposal or maybe they could work out some three team deal.
  23. I'm feelin' good from my head to my shoes Know where I'm goin' and I know what to do I tidied up my point of view Felix Pie has got attitude
  24. I think Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall were great together I was young at the time but I would put them with Steve and Harry.
  25. Top 5? What are you, nuts? Only the Milwaukee Brewers have ever even heard of Rich Hill. I must be nuts too, because I'm picking him for top 5 as well. The real question is whether Zambrano can get himself back in the top 5. if ZiPS is right he'd get a few votes and possibly make top 5... if Bill James is right he'll certainly finish top 5 and have a shot at actually winning the award. And as for Zambrano, I'm picking Hill to have the better year... actually if I had to pick one for my fantasy team before the year, I'd have taken Hill. I'm sold. I have Hill and forgot to put him in my line up doh.
