    The Cubs have done pretty well developing pitching its position players that's the problem.

    Exactly. If they are gonna spend all that money, get 4 #1 starters. You can assemble the best offensive lineup in baseball, but on any given night they can get shut down by good pitching, its that simple. Offseason Headline: Yankees sign Zito, Scmidt, and Matsuzaka Thats the thing that worries me Steinbenner is going to be on mission this off season driving up the price on these players to a ridiculous level. I'm happy they lost but this could be bad news for any hope of the Cubs getting Zito or Schmidt.

    I think they could contend for the NL pennant as soon as next year with just a handful of moves. There are lots of holes that could be filled. But even the best teams have a couple holes. They could build a 90 win team by next season and be right there. If Hendry stays on his present course, that's unlikely, but it's entirely possible if the right moves are made. I don't think they have the starting pitching to contend along with the fact they might lose Ramirez. I don't believe signing a Zito or Schmidt would even make a difference other than to get 73-80 wins instead of 65-72. Have you looked at the stating pitching of the teams contending in the NL? Look at the Reds, Mets, Padres, LA none of them have great starting pitching. The NL is terrible anyone who makes a couple good moves could compete.

    George Ofman said Wells does not want to sign with the Bllue Jays after next year he has already told them he wants to go to Texas. He thought if the Cubs offered Barrett they would take it in a heart beat. He also mentioned one the Cubs scouts used to work for the Blue Jays and he was instrumental in drafting Wells.I know Ofman is off base more than not but thought it was an interesting trade rumor to share.

    I was listening to the Score today and Steve Stone suggested Barrett should move to left field and that the Cubs should go out and get a great defensive catcher. I thought it was an interesting idea not really sure what to think of it though.

    Why would you want to trade Eyre or Howry they have both been solid and they have contracts you can live with. They will be important parts to this team next year why create another whole to fill next year there enough already seems to me.

    Who are the big name free agents for next season? Nobody who would garner more money than what ARod currently makes. So at least for one season that element of the contract couldn't even be utilized. And I don't think anyone will be reaching his contract amount in the next few years. Who would even be the next big free agent to grab that type of money? Exactly there is no reason for him to opt out.

    Yes but it is mosltly the Latin players that are important thats why it is titled that way. If you noticed ten of the eleven players mentioned in the article are latin. But yes technically you are right.
